My favorite part of traveling with Isaira Tours is the professionalism, the courteous drivers, and the welcoming staff. They are always punctual and ready for service. I have used Isaira for several years and will continue to use them for all my long distance commuting anytime I visit The Dominican Republic.

This trip I traveled from Puerto Plata to the capital Santo Domingo. As always the driver was very attentive. Halfway the driver stopped so we could grab a bite to eat. At the place of choice, the food was amazing. The ride itself was smooth. Driver fought though Santo Domingo traffic like a trooper! I am never disappointed and it is always a pleasure riding with Isaira tours. They have become like family.

Blessings to them for excellent service and another job well done!

We were without transportation, after our boat arrived at the Marina, one of the company's agents was there to pick up another group. He very kindly called the office to arrange the transport of 7 people from the Marina to the Airport.

Thank you Mairobi Espinal for your help, you have been wonderful and very easy to communicate with via What's App.
Ramiro was a very good driver.

nov 1 - nov 9 2007 Martin and his staff were great they made our trip. We booked a private tour and that was the way to go. We missed the crowds we got to enjoy the fort, amber museum, and cable car just us.
You dont book them threw your hotel, but contact them before you go and they will come to your hotel and meet with you, and
show you all they can offer. which is the same as the hotel but cheaper. if possible bring school supplies as many as you can
there is a lot childern. They will take you there , we were able to hand them out , meet and talk with some of the teacher. It made the trip. Its top of my list for next trip take less clothes more supplies,

We just returned from a great week at Marien Coral. One reason we picked this time to travel is whale watching. We booked our tour through Isaira tours whose office is across the street from the resort. We used them because of good reviews and they were cheaper than booking through the resort $90US vs $130 for whale watching in Samana. Whale season is mid January to mid March. Since we were there the end of February we knew the whales may not be at their peak. We were a little disappointed in this tour. We were the first to be picked up at 5:50AM. The first couple hours were spend picking up others at their resorts. Around 8:30 AM we stopped for a hot breakfast at a small local semi-outdoor restaurant. After breakfast we traveled on toward Samana. Our multi-lingual guide told us about the area. When we reached Samana we were crammed into small boats which took us to Bicardi Island. Some of the group was staying on the island to swim while others, like us, were going whale watching. They showed us where lunch would be later and loaded us back on the small boats to go whale watching. Our boat didn't have enough life jackets for everyone on board. We went quite a ways out and joined several other small boats looking for whales. Soon we spotted four humpbacked whales and watched them at pretty close range for a while before returning to the Island. The lunch was a nice hot buffet except no beverages were included (even water or soft drinks) - you had to buy those. We then had about an hour to swim before returning to the buses and back to the resort. By the time we got back to Marien it was almost 8PM - about 14 hours total

I discovered Isaira tours via tripadvisor and they had dune buggies available for a guided tour through "sugar cane fields and beaches". The driver picked myself and my girlfriend up from our villa in an open back truck where 3 other people were sitting. Sitting in back of open air truck was not pleasant but i was excited about the tour. The three men told me they paid 25 dollars less for their experience as they negotiated prior to booking. That was disconcerting but then again this is the DR. We then pulled over on the side of the road to pick up two gentlemen who said some guys hustled them on street and offered a cheaper price to go for the dune buggies ride for which I paid full price.

The 3 guys refused to stay after they discovered their 4 wheelers had no brakes. Mine did have brakes, was very beat up and quite uncomfortable to maneuver. We started tour by driving along side of road thru sewer infested waters that had the most vile smell imaginable, still I took it as part of the experience. No effort was made to point out what we were driving thru nor what was surrounding us. After driving thru what appeared to be sugar cane fields, we drove to a beautiful beach where we could jump in water and buy some drinks. Stayed there about 45 minutes after which we were told we will drive to a fresh water river where we can go swimming. This intrigued me as I have never done that.

We drove back on the streets through peurto plata and into a residential neighborhood and to a river with a bridge over it. There were animals walking thru the river and people doing their laundry underneath the bridge. This was the most unsanitary fresh water river location I have seen. There was no way anyone in our group was willing to go in there. So the driver said lets stop for a bathroom break at a local spot along river.

We pulled to side of a road at a run down shack that had filthy water standing in it and dogs running thru its location. I went to use the bathroom but the horrid conditions of this bathroom was worse than any outhouse I have seen touring India etc. The smell and filthy conditions in a bathroom along side a kitchen just overcame me and my girlfriend. We could not even step inside.mwe told this to the guide who said you can use bathroom when we return to home base which was next stop. He said however we have to stay here because 2 members of the group were hungry and want to order food. Mind you, there were 4 other people on this tour so we all had to sit and wait while the people sat down in this filthy place and ordered food. After sitting for 30 minutes in this spot, I became angry because the food was still not there and I paid for a tour, not to sit in a filthy restaurant. Then the owner of restaurant came and tried to extort us for 15 dollars to buy candy for children who were cleaning the dune buggies which didn't need to be cleaned. I blew up at this point and said if we are staying here, call me a can and I will ride back home. Immediately the food came out, guide packed up and we took buggie for 5 minute ride back to location. A total waste of 45+ minutes at this location. I contacted the manager after I finally returned to my hotel. Her response was that I was not being truthful and that bathroom was dirty because we used dune buggies. Ok....that's why it's in a "restaurant" . She also said if I wanted to go and. It sit in restaurant I could have asked to be taken to hotel immediately. Not true! We were explicitly told we will go back together as a group as their is only one open air truck to take everyone back. After finally making it back, I tried to explain my frustrations with he manager but she did not help at all. I would never use this service again as their many other reputable places that will not give you such an experience.

I found Isaira Tours by from a forum on TripAdvisor. I was searching and comparing numerous tour companies and found that Isaira had the most competitive prices, but still a respectable online presence for me to feel safe booking with them from the US. Trust me, I researched a lot of companies, and was very excited to find a company that gave me peace of mind but not overcharge.

From the very beginning, I dealt with Mairobi, who was more than helpful in answering questions, quickly responding to emails, and going above and beyond in planning our excursions. We had a large group of 37 people and Mairobi did everything to accommodate us. Booking with her was very easy. After lengthy back and forth emails, I booked the Paradise island tour and paid the deposit through PayPal. (The deposit was for 10%, which I found reasonable, especially when other tour groups were asking me to pay 30% upfront).

Unfortunately, members of my group changed their minds, and we ended up changing to the Gri Gri Lagoon Special tour a few days before our arrival. Mairobi easily set it up without any problems. The tour guide (Otoniel) was professional and extremely friendly and patient. The tour was supposed to be from 8am to 430pm, but Oto was very flexible and allowed us to stay in locations longer than scheduled depending on the mood of the group. We didn’t get home until 730pm, which is not a complaint, because we felt like we got the most out of the tour. The members of our group enjoyed it very much and commented on how they got to do and see so much in one day. The bus was also clean and air-conditioned (which you might be surprised is not common with other tour companies here).

Because of this tour, we ended up booking the City Tour with Mairobi for the end of the week, this time with only a group of 6 people. Still, Mairobi was more than accommodating in booking. Being at the resort, I had limited resources of communication, and our emails were not working. I tried to book on Friday, and she made the effort to call me in my room at 1030pm that night to confirm our tour for the next day. With just 6 people, I didn’t expect a private tour, but we got our own van with our own guide (Oto again!). I also didn't expect a group discount, but Mairobi gave us a very fair price, much less than advertised on their website (without me even asking for a discount). And the tour is usually during weekdays in the morning, but Mairobi scheduled around us. We were able to book on a Saturday afternoon. And again, Oto was flexible and checked with us on what we wanted to do, where we wanted to stay longer, what we wanted to see.

We also booked airport transportation through Isaira. They were punctual. The vans were clean and air-conditioned. We did not have to put down a deposit to book (as opposed to other companies), and only paid upon arrival of destination. And Mairobi was great in emailing the day before to confirm times and locations, for the shuttles and the tours.

It was the best experience I’ve had with any tour company. Mairobi gave personal attention the whole time, and even stopped on the bus during our tour to introduce herself. The service and professionalism here is incredible. Oto was a great tour guide. And for that type of attention, the prices were amazing. In the DR, you had to haggle for everything. But Mairobi just quoted us prices that were more than fair and didn't need any haggling. I would highly, glowingly recommend this company to anyone. I cannot compliment Mairobi and Isaira Tours enough. I had complete ease of mind doing business with them. My uncle booked a snorkeling tour with our resort and it was a complete disaster (unprofessional, late, unsafe buses, rude). He wished he had listened to me and booked with Isaira instead. If going to Puerto Plata, don’t waste your time looking elsewhere and just go ahead and book with Isaira for everything.

Martin gave us a wonderful tour. He is a great tour guide. We were on a cruise and it is a bit of a long walk to the meeting place as they do not let private tours into Amber Cove. Plan on a 15 minute walk.
But it was well worth the walk. Great communications before the tour. You will not be disappointed.

We booked this tour before we left UK and the whole thing was seamless. As we were staying some distance from Samana Bay there weren't many operators running yet. Our driver Martin picked us up on time and even though it was early he was full of energy and he made us feel really comfortable. It was only us in the minibus which was really comfortable and had loads of cold drinks on board. We stopped for a buffet breakfast and coffee on the way and arrived in Samana bang on time. Martins driving was great and the journey really comfortable. The whale watching was brilliant, the captain ensuring we stayed out until we got some good shots of the whales with their tails out of the water as they dived. They were always very sensitive to the whales and felt as unobtrusive as possible. A few people were sick but we had the travel sickness bands on as well as taking some travel sickness tablets and we were both fine!
On the way back we stopped for lunch at Bacardi island which was heavenly! Glorious golden sand and blue green waters. After a couple of hours we headed back to shore. The drive back to the hotel was just as comfortable and safe. Martin had stayed with us the whole time always ensuring we knew what to do and full of useful information. He made it the great trip that it was. I cannot recommend these guys enough! It was really reasonably priced and we felt we get brilliant value for money. Thank you Martin!!!

When I travel I always hire a local agency for tours and so have been able to start to rate the good ones from the bad ones. Isaira tours in Puerto Plata was excellent. From the moment of my first inquiry I received a prompt reply back from Mairobi Espinal the same day with a detailed list of what their company had to offer in the way of tours. We ended up booking the Puerto Plata City Tour and Damajagua Waterfalls Private tour for the 6 of us and on another day the Samana whale watching tour for two of us. I made a deposit through paypal to confirm the tours.

The Puerto Plata City Tour was private with our own guide and driver, in a clean air conditioned van. In the morning we went to the Brugal Rum factory, the Museo del Amber, an orphanage, an old church , the old historic fort called Museo Fortaleza Colonial San Felipe and a tour of the city. The city of Puerto Plata contains many old colonial buildings, so if you are into architecture you will find this interesting. The afternoon saw us doing the 27 Waterfalls (separate review). I even got a call from Martin partway through the tour to find out how our day was going, very professional. The price was $45 US per person, quite reasonable considering it was a full day.

The Samana whale watching tour was contracted out to another company which was fine. Just a word of caution, this is a very long day, so be prepared, I believe we left at 5/6 in the morning and came back after 8 in the evening.

All in all I was very pleased with Isaira Tours and would totally recommend them if you are looking to do tours of Puerta Plata. I know most resorts try and dissuade you from hiring off the resort tour companies but in my experience I find the service more personable and in most cases it is a smaller group. So thank-you Martin and Mairobi, if I ever make it back to Puerto Plata I will be sure to contract your services again.

On a closing note, last year I even got a Christmas email. Nice touch, its the little things that make a difference.
