    Love this place
Despite my fear of heights, I enjoyed the ride up the cable car, it was such a beautiful view. Once on top of the mountain, it feels like a rain forest and has beautiful scenery, caves and a nature. We enjoyed our 2nd time here just as much as the first.

Fantastic views, fun ride to the top, and peaceful time in nature
This was a highlight of our trip. The ride up in the cable car was stunning and the park at the top was beautiful. We could have taken much more time there having and admiring the peaceful scenery. The wait to go on the cable car took a little while due to tour groups and cruise ships but there was musical entrainment and a friendly vibe. Definitely go early to avoid crowds and catch a clear view

    It's a MUST!
Definitely a must do when in POP - views were amazing. We enjoyed the botanical gardens and lunch at the restaurant onsite. You can even drive up which is a nice option. Be prepared for long wait to get on the cable car.

    A must do!
A wonderful ride to the top. Very inexpensive, great views, and seemed safe. I just wish they didn't pack as many people in each car. It is very tight shoulder to shoulder which is uncomfortable these days with illnesses abound. Other than that, have fun but allow at least 1 1/2 hours from the time you arrive to the time you get back to the bottom; you may have to wait for a car with room for the return trip.

    A lovely attraction
We loved seeing the views, the cruise ship down below, and the beautiful flowers. The weather was perfect and we found it very restful. We enjoyed the music in the visitor center and the shops at the top. It was a great trip. $10 each.

Wonderful, especially if you like botanical gardens
The ride to the top of the mountain is wonderful, great views of the harbor. You could spend a couple of hours at the top, the botanical gardens are lovely, with more great views. Even on a misty day we enjoyed it!. There was an official looking person next to the ticket sales kiosk ($10 for RT ticket on the cable car) who pitched us $25 tickets and said we’d be asked for more at the top and each “attraction” charged seperately, thankfully we passed on that - some kind of scam, there’s no need to pay extra to see the gardens, small cave or anything else at the top.

    Fun few hours
Nice outing from the resort. Only took a few hours . Beautiful view and gardens up top. Felt safe in the gondola. Bring water and comfy shoes. This is not a tour for anyone with mobility issues. Lots of walking and stairs. I would also recommend going in the morning or later afternoon. It was very hot and surprisingly not much breeze. We hired Rene a taxi driver to take us there and back. He was great. He introduced us to Arthur a tour guide. He only gets paid in tips. Well worth it. He was informative, friendly and kept us on track. Over all a nice break from the resort . We also stopped at Umbrella street. There is chocolate shop part way up it. I suggest buying the chocolate tea and hot chocolate. It is SO GOOD.

    Great Visit
Wonderful experience. It's a beautiful mountain ride in the cable car. We didn't get out into the botanical gardens, it wasn't on our tour, but we did have a great time with the folks making our photos with the Christ statue behind us. It's worth visiting the area.

Awesome tour with amazing views - highly recommended!
Puerto Plata was the last stop of our cruise and we booked this tour last minute before leaving home - we are so glad we did. Alex is a knowledgeable and well-spoken guide. He really gives you a sense of history, culture and community. The first part of the tour consisted of the city then our small group broke into two. Those heading for the beach had their own dedicated guide while we were lucky to remain with Alex for a private tour. The van took us through the countryside up to the mountain where there was a noticeable drop in temperature. Views were fantastic and the cable car ride was surprisingly smooth. Once at the bottom our driver Albert greeted us and drove us and Alex back to the cruise port. Chilled bottled water, rum punch and freshly picked bananas were offered as refreshments and we were very comfortable in the air-conditioned van.

The walk really isn't that bad from the cruise ship to where the tour guide meets you just outside the gate. Much of the path is somewhat shaded by a pergola and you can also hire someone to take you half way there (to the duty free shop only) by bike - it's free but you should tip. Much better to book this excursion independently from the cruise ship, otherwise you end up on a big bus rather than a van. The bus won't take you up the mountain and through the village, so you would miss seeing how the locals live. It is a bit bumpy but remember you are in a village going up a mountain not on a paved highway. Once you get to the top, there are a couple of friendly guys that will take your picture in front of the statue with your iphone in a cool way; again, tips are expected. The cable car ride was fun. It was a little foggy at the top, but it cleared on the way down. Spectacular views of the city and waterfront. There's a little (overpriced) gift shop inside the dome that the statue sits on. The next stop is the fort, and you get a self-guided audio tour. We were advised not to pay any attention to the vendors selling jewellery and souvenirs or we would be harassed. Final stop was the cathedral in a little downtown area with a gazebo and a few shops/restaurants. The gift shop we went to here, below the chocolate factory, had the best prices (be sure to haggle). On the way back, we saw the hercules statue in the ocean as we drove by. The tour guide, Henry, was very personable and knowledgeable. His english was very good. He had bottled water, rum punch and bananas for us. We booked this tour through Costco and received a 10% discount. Well worth the price because if you stay in Amber Cove, you miss out of the true flavor of Puerto Plata.

The People who work at the Cable Car Puerto Plata in DR were very nice; there were no long lines and while we waited to go in the cable car, there were some local musicians; singing local songs and engaging people while we waited.
My family and I enjoyed the views of the ocean, the city, and the vegetation; we took lots of memorable photos of the views.

I don't recommend buying the tickets to the Cable Car ahead; when you buy there the prices are very affordable- adults $10 and kids $5 (age 10 or younger).

We booked this as a part of a tour so I am not sure how much this costs. The ride up Isabel de Torres is beautiful. It is about 10-12 minute ride. The line is really long! There are only two cars. One going up and one going down. The car holds maybe 30 people at one time. So you’re in pretty tight during the ride. The panoramic view is beautiful. The replica of Christ the Redeemer is nice and the locals take pictures of you and ask that you buy something in their shop. I would rather tip then buy something from the shop. There is other stuff to see but we didn’t have time as we were on a cruise ship. Coming down it was very foggy coming down for a couple of minutes. I would recommend this if you’re in Puerto Plata.

Went on an excursion booked through Sunwing vacations. I understand that these tours are cheaper because they're designed to bring tourists to vendors but our experience on this one was ruined time and again. Particularly at the cable car we were packed in as tight as possible with 27 other people crowded into the car. My girlfriend and I actually had to get out while the car was still not properly "landed" just to remove enough weight to allow the car to lift enough for everyone else to out. At the top we were lead astray by a vendor acting as a tour guide. Our own fault for falling for it but annoying none the less. Then going both up and back, the next cable car had the left overs from our tour which was a handful of people. No reason to shove so many people in a once.

As a DIY shore excursion (we were on a cruise), we took a private taxi from the Taino Bay cruise terminal in Puerto Plata to take us to the Teleferico cable car. The taxi ride was quite pricey at USD 60 return for a short distance to the cable car station. That rate is good for up to 5 pax (& we were 4). The cable car ticket costs very reasonable at USD 10 per person (return) however the queue was very long we had to wait for about an hour to get on. I later on learned from the taxi driver on our way back to the cruise port that there were 4 cruise ships currently docked at that time hence the influx of fellow tourists. There were only 2 cable cars running up & down, 1 in each direction. Each car could take up to a dozen pax I think. The ride both up and down were simply breathtaking. You can view the lush forest down, the ocean from a distance and the Isabel de Torres Hill, the destination of the cable car. Once up in the mountain, we took great photos with the replica of Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue. Truly instagrammable! There’s also a hiking trail. We were blessed with a great weather, sunny and clear skies (it was 23Dec). I highly recommend this place!

February 16, 2023 we arrived in port with our cruise ship. The newly built seaport was beautiful.

Popular excursion get their early

We decided to walk to the tram. It was interesting, high traffic and very noisy.
Perhaps not recommended for future travelers to walk.

We got there paid $10/ per person waited about 20 minutes. They had some seating and music as you wait.

It takes about 8 minutes to get to the top.
The top has a great sculpture of Christ similar to the statue in Brazil.

An aggressive gift shop.

Great trails along the top in their botanical gardens.

On our way die we had a cloud inversion everything was white.

We we not as adventurous walking back,
We got a taxi. Cost us about $25 to go back to town. They will walk with you sometimes showing you different shops and sites

This would be the exclusion to do.
You can always walk the town yourself.

A lot of security staff wall around.

Church
Chocolates
Cigar rolling
Pink street
And of course umbrella street.

Because I am very afraid of higts we desided to go on a rainy day, but I can tell everybody that I made it to the top and back. On the top there was lovely small shops and of course the statue of Jesus. The ride up to the mountain took 15min and Down in 10min.

A must-visit in Puerto Plata. The views were stunning as expected and the foggy/windy botanical garden added more interest to the top of the mountain.

I especially would like to thank kind DR people - one guy helped us when crossing the road by walking together / another guy let us find the right way to the Teleferico. We went there by walking about 40 minutes since a Uber driver kept canceling the appointments, probably because of the low fares Uber suggested. The Uber system didn’t seem to work well... However, it was nice to meet awesome locals and very safe!

We landed at Amber Cove in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. We headed for the taxi stand and told the attendant we needed a taxi to take us to the Teleferico. It hauls passengers to the top of Isabel de Torres, a mountain nearly a mile high with a 100 foot statue of Christ the Redeemer at its top. The attendant made the arrangements and off we went.
The last time we were in Puerto Plata we took the city tour which was phenomenal and spotted the cable car as we passed by. Once we bought our tickets and attracked our guide for the day, Vincente, the locals told us before we could go to the top of the mountain, we had to join them in the mariachi band so we did. Then up the mountain we went. The scenery was breathtaking looking back down at the city and the sea. At the top, we were greeted by Christ the Redeemer.
Vincente then took us on a tour of the botanical garden occupying the crater of the dormant volcano responsible for forming this mountain. Among other things, he pointed out the Plata tree native to this area. Plata means "silver" and Puerto means "port" in Spanish. Vincente said the tree's leaves curl up when it rains and appear silver. When the Spanish arrived here in the 1500s, it was raining and the Spanish named the port Puerto Plata. The mountain has caves, rivers and ponds.
We said Adios to Vincente, boarded the waiting taxi and returned to the ship. Bucket list - check. What a great day. RT taxi $35, Cable car $10.

The cable car is now operating again.

They have used the downtime to upgrade and freshen up the area. New pavement, fresh paint, etc. I've heard that the road to the top has been improved too.

Accessibility:
-the main building has an elevator to the 2nd floor but not to the 3rd floor where you board the gondola.
-ramps have been installed to aid getting to the main areas at the top. Some are quite steep but are manageable with assistance.
-each gondola has an operator who will assist you across the small step from the dock to the gondola.

Best to go in the morning before it gets busy with buses from the cruise ships that start arriving around 10AM.
Also, in the afternoon, it is common for clouds to form at the top of the mountain. that block the spectacular views
