I cannot stress enough how wonderful this place is. Boys and girls from the poor barrios are able to get off the streets and learn English and other life skills. Martina does a great job organizing activities for the kids. She and the other 3 employees truly care about all those who pass through their doors each day. Teresa teaches lessons that are fun and informative, with help from Nemesis. These three ladies show their love and devotion for all the youngsters by giving lots of encouragement. I love volunteering at Dove. I always feel welcome, with high fives and hugs from everyone. The children are interesting in learning new subjects and meeting new people. I go to Dove every time I'm in Puerto Plata.

I will never forget my visit to Dove. The kids are so incredible and their smiles have never left my mind. This organization is really trying to better the children’s future. Donate, sponsor, this is a great organization to support! Seeing the neighborhood was an added bonus of seeing the daily lives of people in the Dominican.

I am so looking forward to my next visit to Puerto Plata and Dove. I have been to the center many times. Each time I am impressed with the teachers, directors, and, of course, the kids. They are eager to learn and participate in the club's activities. Each time I visit, I plan a lesson to teach to the kids. Last January we talked about winter and snow. The kids made snowmen and hot chocolate. They loved it, even though it was so hot there. Everyone is friendly and eager to talk to visitors. Upon entering the center, I am greeted with high fives, hugs, and huge smiles. It makes my day!! We now sponsor a girl named Adriana, We get updates from her every few months and a holiday greeting. We have met her a few times. Martina tells me she is very involved in the center, helping the younger kids and in general is a big help to the directors. On my next visit, I plan to teach the kids body parts in English and then play Simon Says. I'm not sure what I'll bring for snacks, but it will be something different for them to try. If you are planning a stay in Puerto Plata, please consider a visit to Dove Youth Development Center. You'll leave feeling happy that you've done something good for a young boy or girl, and perhaps you'll even consider sponsoring a child.

Our day at Dove Missions was more than we ever expected. The children were all well-mannered and respectful and full of smiles, laughter & hugs!! Liz and Martina are 2 amazing ladies who run the center to offer children structured arts & crafts and English classes before and after school. The center is well kept and even has a rooftop garden where the children showed off the chile peppers, basil and tomatoes. Liz & Martina took us to a local eatery and the food was delicious. We then toured the impoverished areas where a lot of the children live. It was very, very sad...some of the homes were marked for demolition due to a new pier being built for a cruise ship. One good news story was meeting Gustavo who started with Dove Missions as a youth and is graduation in July! The smile on his face was effervescent and lit up the entire room!!! We headed back to the center and the afternoon children were waiting patiently at the door for it to open. The center is a haven for many and you could see the friendships that have been formed. I highly recommend spending a day at Dove Missions to see first hand how these 2 ladies are giving many children an opportunity of a lifetime. What a blessing they are!!
