We did the catamaran tour as part of a Carnival cruise excursion. I can’t say enough good things. Captain Mendy and his crew were absolutely wonderful. They made sure we had a fantastic snorkeling experience and provided us with a lovely lunch and drinks with Dominican rum and beer after we were finished. Definitely check them out if you come to Puerto Plata!

My son and I had a wonderful time! Capt. Mendy and his crew were top-notch. The snorkling was beautiful, the lunch was delicious. I would definitely go again next time I visit Puerto Plata!

Early morning shuttle pick-up up at the hotel, a bit late... Long drive to the catamaran, about 1h30 minutes
One on the water, great crew, food and beverages. A few stops with the boat for swimming and snorkeling. A lot of fun to be had in pristine water.
Great for families with adults and teens, but not so much for younger kids.

The trip was better than expected. An amazing crew that made sure we all had fun and boarded on and off safely. The Captain Menny was wonderful as well as the bartender Daniel. Lunch was a cold buffet very well organized. Snorkeling was amazing. We had plenty of seating both sun and shade. Picked up at the beach near our resort. Great day.

We were picked up at our resort and drove in a truck to our catamaran. We had a great day tour. We stopped at 2 places to snorkel. We had lunch on the Catamaran and all the drinks you wanted. It was a great tour!

The crew on the Freestyle were fantastic. I got very seasick and they were very kind and caring. I did manage to go in for a bit on the first snorkelling stop and the fish were plentiful. There are crew members in the water with you guiding you and helping you feel comfortable. They feed the fish a bit so they all come very close. The rest of my group reported that they loved the snorkelling very much. My sister loved feeding the fish and she was initially nervous to get in. They have a camera guy taking underwater photos while you are snorkelling. You can purchase the disc for $25 at the end. They take lots of photos. The lunch was tasty. My teenage nephew was raving about the potato salad (and he doesn’t usually like potato salad). They start serving alcohol once the second snorkelling location is over. Overall very good value for your money with a professional, friendly crew.

This was my first time snorkeling and to be honest I cannot swim and I’m afraid of the ocean. The crew on this boat were so professional and so patient that I forgot how scared I was. Our instructor’s patient voice and clear instructions helped me push myself out of my comfort zone. I loved it! There were 7 of us in my group. None of us had ever been on an adventure like this before. By the end of the trip, we all had an amazing time! The captain and the entire crew were attentive and so much fun. Even more important to a scaredy-cat like me, I always felt safe. Behind all of their jokes, their knowledge and experience were never in question. I would definitely snorkel again and I credit the freestyle crew with my newfound sense of adventure!

We booked this as an excursion on our cruise. We were picked up at the Amber Cove port on a bus with all the shades drawn (they were find with us opening them) and taken to the edge of a resort where we walked to the beach and climbed aboard the catamaran. The ride was wet and wild, if you sit up front or on the sides, you will get soaked. Stay in the back if you don't want a wet ride. The snorkeling was great. There were so many fish. They do feed them though so the fish have learned to show up for boats. Lunch was salads, fruits, and sandwiches. There were two bathrooms and they recommended locking them. One didn't even have a lock and the other lock didn't work. I had someone stand guard for me.
We sailed back to our starting point and walked back to the bus which took us back to Amber Cove. I really liked seeing the town on the bus ride and the country and houses along the shore (from the boat). Do keep your cruise ship card handy for check points on the way back in to the port area.

How crowded was this excursion being booked through the cruise ship?
We have booked some cruise-line catamaran excursions and it was so crowded you literally could not move.
Thanks,
Jen

It was full but we were able to sit where we wanted on the boat and move around without issue. The bus to get to the catamaran was another story, the people who got on first sat in the front and you had to climb through people to get to a seat.

Is this tour one you booked through Carnival Cruise line? Did the boat actually sail or did it only use the motors to move. I want to actually sail on a Catamaran.

On a boat trip we like to be in the sun. Is there a lot of space on the outside and/or on the nets. Been on couple of catamarans where there is more space undercover than in the glorious sunshine!

There is plenty of space in the sun both on the nets and on deck, great crew, very entertaining and fun.

Hi! Does anyone know if they pick up from Riu Bachata? I'm traveling solo and other companies pick up only groups or don't pick up from Riu. I really want to go for this tour...

The last time we stayed at the Rui's they did pick us up to go on the catamaran. We are going again to the Rui's in 20 days and this excursion is still offered.

Hi does anyone know if they pick you up from VH Gran Ventana Resort?
dennissthemenace

You don't need a pick up from Gran Ventana. Walk onto the beach until your feet are wet; turn right and walk for about 2 minutes around the corner and you will see the boat.
Enjoy
