Tons of fun, beautiful, amazing coral/fish, informative bus ride, FRIENDLY FUN guides. We had so much fun in the boat ride. We danced and drank. The bus ride was great because we saw the island and Edmund pointed things out and gave us facts about the area. The snorkel was amazing, safe and perfect amount of time
In the water.

Early morning shuttle pick-up up at the hotel, a bit late... Long drive to the catamaran, about 1h30 minutes
One on the water, great crew, food and beverages. A few stops with the boat for swimming and snorkeling. A lot of fun to be had in pristine water.
Great for families with adults and teens, but not so much for younger kids.

Booked the Free Style Catamaran last minute and we had a blast. The bus ride was informative and the guides were amazing. The captain was friendly and interacted with everyone. The snorkeling was amazing and the lunch and drinks were great. We would rate this 10/10 and definitely recommend.

Edward and the whole team were amazing and ensured our whole family and the whole boat had a blast. The boat ride was beautiful and relaxing and we saw so many colorful fish. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a snorkeling excursion.

The trip was better than expected. An amazing crew that made sure we all had fun and boarded on and off safely. The Captain Menny was wonderful as well as the bartender Daniel. Lunch was a cold buffet very well organized. Snorkeling was amazing. We had plenty of seating both sun and shade. Picked up at the beach near our resort. Great day.

We did the catamaran tour as part of a Carnival cruise excursion. I can’t say enough good things. Captain Mendy and his crew were absolutely wonderful. They made sure we had a fantastic snorkeling experience and provided us with a lovely lunch and drinks with Dominican rum and beer after we were finished. Definitely check them out if you come to Puerto Plata!

My son and I went on a freestyle catamaran trip and having been on other similar trips, though not from freestyle, we had a rough idea how things would go. Always enjoyable no matter what the weather. Great for couples, singles and families and we were not disappointed.
What set this trip apart from the others was the crew. Their noticeable caring for each individual. An old lady unsure of her footing was helped in a fun way to be stable on the rocking boat, when she wanted to move around. Young children getting adventurous on the nets, though helped by their family, even so the crew added extra help. The guy that drank too much the night before and really should have stayed at home.
The crew did of course entertain with dancing and antics that made us laugh. They made sure the drinks were free flowing and everyone attended to constantly.
T shirts and muscle shirts were available, my son bought one. We thought the price was good and the shirts came in all sizes.
The trip has its own paparazzi photographer who not only took good pics on board but also beneath the waves while we were snorkeling. He even had the thought to take along some bread so we could have good pictures with the tropical fish in view. A cd was available to buy at the end of the trip with the scenery and all the photos on.
Do lather up well with sunscreen as cloudy day, sunny or windy .. with the reflection of the ocean.. you need more sun screen than normal.
Below this review it asks us to click who a trip like this might be suitable for.. couples, family and young children, teens, friends, business, and solo. Frankly if there was a bracket for 'all' I would tick that, apart from babies.
The food... whew.. I guess I overate it was so good. Obviously very fresh, plenty of it and a large variety. There was something for everyone. I was too full to get around to the fruit.
I was spurred to write this review because of mostly the crew, I am so impressed with how well they took care of us. As said, their attention to detail and the people as individuals... well, 11 out of 10 for it.. thanks guys for a really wonderful day.

This is a great way to spend your day! -The water may be like glass, or really choppy-you never know. Typically the water is calm in the morning, and may change as the wind picks up in the afternoon. so take dramamine if you're one who needs it. The staff is fun and friendly and they work VERY HARD! They want you to have a wonderful time. Remember that! - if you're a bump on a log- you may want to stay home. There is music, dancing optional- sit in a place away from the speakers if you like. (I want to give El Capitan an updated play list-the boys need some new tunes :) There's plenty of drinks (soda, water, or alcohol if you prefer), and they serve lunch. I like the first stop better for snorkeling because the reef seems bigger and the water not as deep. The second stop we get out to float :) and swim. We've seen dolphins every trip. Remember to be generous and tip if you feel the staff did a good job. They make about $25 a day- -so please be kind :) Life is short- get some sun!

You start the day by being picked up by one of the Freestyle trucks which take you to a nearby beach where just a short walk takes you to were the catamaran is moored. Few steps up and they serve soft drinks. The boat then cruises along the coast taking in some great views to the first snorkelling spot.
The fish are amazing and so are the reefs the guides go out with you and supply all the bread for the fish. They also dive down and bring more up with them. A photographer is on hand to take photos. $20 gets you the cd with all the images for the day.To get the best value get in front of him as much as possible. If you can dive he will take some amazing shots as well.
After the 1st snorkel lunch is served which is a tasty salad buffet. The alcohol is then served and the party gets started. We then sail to the next snorkelling spot and again its epic.
After the snorkelling is over you sail back to the beach which takes about an hour and the music is playing and the drinks begin to flow freely. All in all its a great day out with some outstanding views of the coastline.

Let me just say--the snorkeling is great. We went to 2 different spots and were there for a good amount of time. The lunch served was okay... but we stayed anchored for lunch for WAY too long--a good 2 hours, with no breeze and the sun beating down on us. The crew is really what made this cruise miserable for my family and I. Yes, they seemed nice and entertaining, but they started hitting on me and other women and making sexual innuendos. One guy even decided it was appropriate to dance up on me while my mother was standing next to me. I did not appreciate that. Very touchy. They were extremely unprofessional and I believe they were drinking (all but the captain). Granted, as the cruise went on, people got drunker and drunker and some of the women bought into the ploy but it was disgusting to sit and watch this unprofessional behavior. I just wanted to get off the boat! They decided to set up the sails for the ride back, so it took MUCH longer than it normally would have. Hey, the more drunk the people, the more tips, right? We finally pulled into the resort area and we waited a half hour for a small little motor boat to pick us up from the catamaran and bring us to shore. We were packed into that boat--17 of us to be exact. If I had known that we had to take a small boat into shore, I would have reconsidered. My mother has a bad knee and were weren't expecting for her to have to climb in and out of the boat. By the end of the trip, I had just had it. It was dragged out for FAR too long. Not the right trip to choose if you are looking for a nice few hours of snorkeling. If you want to get completely wasted and get hit on constantly by an unprofessional crew, this is the trip for you.

How crowded was this excursion being booked through the cruise ship?
We have booked some cruise-line catamaran excursions and it was so crowded you literally could not move.
Thanks,
Jen

It was full but we were able to sit where we wanted on the boat and move around without issue. The bus to get to the catamaran was another story, the people who got on first sat in the front and you had to climb through people to get to a seat.

Is this tour one you booked through Carnival Cruise line? Did the boat actually sail or did it only use the motors to move. I want to actually sail on a Catamaran.
Written October 1, 2019
we booked through travel agent to have prepaid pre-booked excursions , used both sails and motor, this was an awesome excursion and the staff were the best ever! the coast is beautiful to see from the ocean

Where did you purchase tour? Beach? Resort? On line on your own . Thanks

We flew with Sunwing, so we purchased our tour during our flight to Puerto Plata and were able to book the day we wanted to go when we arrived at our resort!

Staying at sunscape wanna go next sat how do you get there from resort ?
Written January 4, 2019
When we did it in 2018 the catamaran met us just off the Sunscape beach and dropped us off at the same place at the end of the tour.

On a boat trip we like to be in the sun. Is there a lot of space on the outside and/or on the nets. Been on couple of catamarans where there is more space undercover than in the glorious sunshine!
Written March 25, 2018
There is plenty of space in the sun both on the nets and on deck, great crew, very entertaining and fun.

Hi! Does anyone know if they pick up from Riu Bachata? I'm traveling solo and other companies pick up only groups or don't pick up from Riu. I really want to go for this tour...
Written February 6, 2018
The last time we stayed at the Rui's they did pick us up to go on the catamaran. We are going again to the Rui's in 20 days and this excursion is still offered.

Hi does anyone know if they pick you up from VH Gran Ventana Resort?
Written February 15, 2017
You don't need a pick up from Gran Ventana. Walk onto the beach until your feet are wet; turn right and walk for about 2 minutes around the corner and you will see the boat.
Enjoy
