Wanted to spend sometime off the resort so decided to go rafting. Rafted before in Ottawa Canada so familiar to rafting.
The overall experience was fine.
Price paid was okay.
Bus driver was fine.
Tour guide on bus was good and very informative during the trip.
River guide on boat was alright.
Breakfast and lunch at the rafting place was nothing special but was fine.
Now the actually rafting was fun but a little short.....maybe two hours on the water. Very scenic but not very challenging if you have been rafting before. Very little paddling needed. You just let gravity take you down the river and over a few drops/waterfalls. Not very treacherous except you have to avoid all the rocks and boulders on the river. Unlike in Ottawa, the chances of flipping the raft and ending in the water is low.
One warning, the bus ride to and from the river is long......2.5 hours each way so the event while only 2 hours on the water takes a whole day. If you just want to raft it's a LONG day. If you don't mind long bye drives to see the countryside and pass through the 2nd largest city Santo Domingo than it's okay.
For the price paid I feel the excursion was worth it to try something fun off the resort but might not be for the experienced rafter or adrenaline junkie as there was no real danger or crazy Rapids.

This is a most do. First of all Jarabacoa is a beautiful town so you will be in love with the landscape. The Hacienda were we do the rafting their cost was only 50 and includes a breakfast buffet, transportation to the river, the rafting experience, snacks, a lunch buffet and a final video. About the rafting experience is safe, fun and amazing. The river is great for the adventure and have great rapids named as El Toilet or El Hoyo. So when you are doing Team Effort with your friends you also see the kids and locals saying goodbye and having a great experience with you. Believe not matter your physical condition or age you need to do it.

Seriously this excursion is a 10 out of 10!!!
I have no idea where to start! We had a very early morning pick up at our hotel. We took baggies with us so we could hit the buffet just as it opened and grab some croissants, cheese, and bacon. We made little breakfast sandwiches to eat along the way. Good thing we did because it is a (well worth it) long drive. You will stop for a bathroom break and can buy food/drinks there if you want to but we'd rather save our money for other stuff.
Once there, you will have breakfast if you want. You will get your gear on and travel to where you start your adventure.
Even though it was classified as a "3", it was more adventurous than a typical 3 classification rafting trip in the states. If you are nervous about doing this, we had some new brides in our group that had never done this sort of thing before. They were very nervous, but the professional guides took good care of them. (All of them said they loved it at the end). The guides did a good job of grouping the people together. They put a rowdy group of boys together and gave them quite a fun time. The newer people were together and it seemed as though they went pretty gentle on them.
Part way through the trip you will pull off to have a quick lunch. If you want you can jump off of two sizes of cliffs. To face my fear of heights, I was one of two ladies in the group to jump off the approx. 30 foot cliff into the water. There was a smaller jump for those who wanted something a little less.
After the rafting trip is over, they take you back for a very delicious authentic Dominican lunch. There you can watch a video they record of the trip. We chose not to buy it because it seemed to show more of the employees than the people. (For example, I would have loved to have a video of my husband and I jumping off that cliff...but they only showed an employee doing a back flip off of it.) Instead, we just bought a photo instead.
We met some great people on this trip and are facebook friends with a couple from England. Hopefully, we can go visit them one day! :)
If you are thinking about doing this trip, contact Francisco at Marysol Tours. You definitely won't regret it! :)
TIP: Bring you own waterproof camera, don't buy a portable water camera. I bought one there and it broke half way through the trip. All my pictures were ruined because water go into the hole where it broke.

Second time doing this trip, enjoyed it so much last time! We set off from Puerto Plata at 715am, stopped off on the way for a break after an hour and a half driving, then carried on for around another hour, drove through some lovely scenery and small towns and villages. Once we arrived we were greeted with breakfast and drinks, then shown a safety video. We were then kitted out with life vests and helmets, if you have a go pro camera ask for a helmet with built in attachment for it. Then a short drive to the river when the fun really starts! Water was a little low as not much rain this time of year, but this didn't spoil the fun. The guides are great, we were lucky to have "Nemo" as our guide, he was really good fun, and made us feel like we were in safe hands. After a couple of hours of rafting we headed back to the ranch where lunch and drinks were waiting. You can purchase a DVD of the day's action if you want at $35 US dollars. A great day out, will re book again when I am next out here 👍

Loved the drive through the country-side, the meals were delicious and the rafting was fun! I nearly fell out but quickly learned that the adrenaline rush was a lot of fun. Wish we had a chance to go down the more difficult river as the drops were exciting.

Went on two occasions, once when the water was cryslal clear and a second time after it had rained and the river was higher and brown with silt washed down from the mountains. Both trips were excellent but the first was more beautiful + a couple of us were thrown out of the raft when we struck a large boulder whilst going through the rapids. I think the experience has made me a rafter for life!!! Give it a go!

Very nice river to explore rafting! It was my third rafting trip so I am not that experienced but for me it was the best trip so far. Professional guides and a safe but fun environment. They offer quite a lot of action combined with a scenic landscape.
I only did not like the time pressure the guides where putting on us. Everything was in a rush. But at the end I totally enjoyed the day!

This was an excellent trip and I'd highly recommend it to anyone travelling to Puero Plata.
There is quite a long drive there and back but its well worth it. The guides make it fun for everyone by playing tricks on people and jumping off huge cliffs when you least expect it as well!
Lunch was included afterwards with 1 alcoholic drink. Overall its a must for all visiting the area and I'd definitely go again.

We took the tour out of Rancho Baiguate the guys there are really cool. They are friendly, very safety conscious and give everything they have for you to have the best time ever. My Wife and I were scared because we had never done an adventure experience like this. We were shown an instructional video while we were fed lunch then we were give wetsuits, helmets and we boarded a truck with all the equipment to the river. We when arrived they physically instructed us and taught us all the safety maneuvers and calls that they use. We went through the course with full intensive adrenaline pumping action. Down the Mother-in-Law, Tyson Jr, Tyson Sr and Grand Slam (Nicknames of rapids). It was really re-assuring when 2 of our riders fell of the boat and the team immediately worked together to pull them out of the water safely. They have staff that climbs rocks and have both picture and video camera to catch the best moments. It is totally worth it to buy them and they are not too expensive. Then they feed you dinner when you get back. This is about 2 hrs from Puerto Plata but they provide transportation and it is worth it.

Everyone is saying its a long drive, but a drive from where? What is the closest city to the rafting? Please help!! I don't want to stay too far from this attraction

Greetings
It's about 3 hours from Puerto Plata. It is kind of a pain commute but they had 15 days of straight rain and the river is GREAT. Worth the time

Hi!
Did you buy the tickets online? or did you buy them while you were there?
Thanks!!!
Written June 11, 2015
Hi Julie
I bought the tickets whilst there, at the hotel, through the tour company (Thomsons) rep. Beware if you are paying with one of these loaded currency cards as they do a conversion into the local currency which will cost dearly when you get home. Best to pay in cash ($ US).
Regards Maurice
