Muchas gracias to Chichi and his team for a wonderful experience!
One of us did the OWD Certification with Chichi and it was great. Chichi is an amazing guy, very patient and lots of fun! He speaks multiple languages (Spanish, English, France, German…. ) He is calm and is giving clear instructions in the water.
The dive center in very good shape and has everything needed. The equipment is very new.
Overall we can highly recommend diving with the Diwa Divers in Poerto Plata - Thanks a lot to the entire team and we’re looking forward to diving with you again!

What an incredible time I had diving with Diwa Dominicana. I was there for 10 days and did my Rescue diving course there along with some fun dives. They were very patient and extremely knowledgeable. The whole team is very friendly, helpful and welcoming! The centre and equipment is in excellent condition. Would 100% recommend diving with these guys and will definitely be going back. Thank you guys for an amazing experience.

After a torrid dive with another local dive company, I was put in touch with Diwa Dominicana by the "man on the beach". I spoke to Chi Chi and told him what had happened with the previous dive company, he assured me that it wouldn't happen with his company and that safety was his primary concern. Chi Chi picked my son and I up the following day and took us to his shop, after a look round and a chat with his wife Katja I was impressed and signed up for a series of dives.
To say that my son and I had a wonderful time is an understatement. Chi Chi was true to his word and the dive kit was almost brand new and in an a range of sizes.
I would recommend DIWA Dominicana to anyone in the diving community. This is a company that will go the extra mile to ensure that you have a fabulous dive. I tried to pick fault, and you know what....I COULDN'T.
So from my son and I many thanks, and if you stay anywhere near to the golf course in Puerto Plata and want to dive, give him a ring.

They were fantastic. They do not take big groups and are very easy and personable. I would recommend them if you plan on doing any diving. Very safe and great prices. Moses our dive master was fantastic. Took beautiful pictures for us and put them on a CD. They were all wonderful people that we look forward to seeing again when we go back in the fall.

Katje and Chi Chi are probably the friendliest dive centre I have dived with. I did my AOW with them recently and it seemed like nothing was too much trouble for them.

The weather at the start of the week had not been good and had caused some changes to the diving and our holiday plans, but Chi Chi understood I had other things to do and and was able to accommodate my availability for the course.

The dives with Diwa differed from others in that after the first dive we stayed in the water and handed the BCD's to the boat for a new tank, instead of leaving the water and fitting a new cylinder ourselves. This does mean that virtually everything is done for you, but also means you have to put the BCD & weight belt on in the water which some may find a bit tricky. It also means, for the most paranoid and picky of divers, that you cannot check that the tank band is secure or that the tank is in _precisely_ the correct position. I'm not _that_ paranoid though. The exception was after the deep dive when we returned to the beach for a long surface interval. Again though, the tank was fitted for me.

In some places, divers expect to put their kit together themselves, and many are unhappy about others doing it. Chi Chi did ask me my preference and I was happy for them to do it. I am sure he would be equally happy for divers to do this themselves if they preferred. It's also possible that Chi Chi felt it better to prevent sea sickness for me to stay in the water.

During the surface interval after the Deep Dive, we were joined on the beach by Katje and their young son. Sadly, I couldn't have much of a conversation with him, as at 4 YO his Spanish was already better than mine. Chi Chi offered me whatever refreshments I wanted from the local cafes.

Sosua seems to be a busy place for diving. I saw 2 centres based there, and another one from Caberete as well as Diwa. I can imagine in summer the place has a lot of traffic with leisure boats as well as divers and snorkelers and feel this has had some impact on the coral. A fair bit of it didn't look healthy. There are still lots of fish, some of which are obviously used to being fed by divers. I was bitten a couple of times, probably as a result of their frustration at not being fed. Chi Chi reported the same. All in all, its a bad idea to feed fish as it changes their behaviour and encourages migration from other areas. Where the small fish go, the larger predator fish follow...

All in all, great time with Chi Chi with very personalised service. Although the car park is a minute or 2 walk from the beach, everything was carried there for me and loaded into the boat, and carried back to the bus afterwards. Chi Chi washed all my gear at the end of each dive and let me store what I wanted at the centre after the first day.

My hotel did have a resident centre but I prefer smaller centres where the service is more individual. I've seen the cattle boats with groups of divers waiting their turn with the Dive Master, indeed I've dived with one once. You never have much time to talk with the guide about the dive you've just done as s/he has to get ready to take out another group and there is little flexibility in the day's schedule as each group has to be in/out of the water at the right time otherwise other groups are delayed.

I thoroughly recommend Diwa, esp to the nervous and those with not much experience who would find Chi Chi's calmness, patience and flexibility particularly beneficial. However, as Chi Chi is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, he is qualified to teach speciality courses and is equally suited to experienced divers looking to further their education.

What a fantastic dive center. The shop is clean and the kit is well looked after and the owners are second to none. I've had many dives with this company and always feel safe comfortable and relaxed. Safety comes first but it is always a pleasure.

I visited Diwa for the first time on holiday in August 2010, with my son. After receiving advise from Chi Chi, due to medical concerns I was unable to do my introductory dive, unlike my son who had a fantastic introduction experience. It was very apparent that safety was far more important than profit to Chi Chi and his lovely wife Katja, despite them loosing my business !
Not to be disheartened, I returned to Dominican Republic with my family again in July 2011, with my medical concerns sorted, my 11 year old son and I completed and passed our open water padi certificate.
Chi Chi and Katja make a fantastic, caring, friendly but at all times very professional team. They have so much patience to make it a truly memorable experience for all the right reasons.
We would highly recommend this company, if you 're young or old and with or without any diving experience DIWA will look after your every need.

I took my children to the DR for vacation and knew we had to go diving. None of my children were open water certified yet. Diwa Dominicana was absolutely the best with my children and all 3 are now open water certified. They all had fun and huge smiles and said it was a highlight of the trip. I had a blast diving as well. The staff was great and helpful. We can't wait to go back!!!!!

Made my padi lesson open wather with Diwa. Took that contact on Tripadvisor and was really satisfied. Had my lesson with Chi-Chi, has it was the low season in may, I was alone with him to do my courses. He was really nice. He took his time, let me ask all the questions I had, always verified if I was ok with everything. He's patient and profesional. I'm 100% happy to have choose them. He picked me up in the morning at my hotel, and bring me back after the day. His english is good, and he also speak a bit of french.
I will come back to dive with them for sure
