We decided to take a taxi guided tour off the cruise and were so happy we did. Our guide brought us to the famous rum factory where we were able to take a tour with a group. We started in their liquor store while we waited to join others for the tour. They had popsicles for $1 w/o liquor and $2 with. Yes!!! We then went for a tour of the factory where we learned the history of rum and got to try their famous island rum. It was so smooth you didn't need a chaser. Their prices are amazing and we got to learn more about the island and its heritage.

The tour was nice, the place is really well prepared and charming, we had an almost VIP tour (the two of us and a guide) and then there is tasting in a fancy-styled bars. As opposed to Brugal - the rum is rather poor. But it is still a place worth visiting.

I took the tour of the visitor center with rum tasting. The staff were all friendly. We were able to taste 8 or 9 different rums. After which, we stopped for a few minutes at the on-site store. The store also has a bar that sells rum drinks.

We stopped for the "tour". Not much of a tour. you walk into the aging room where there are hundreds of barrels. Then you watch a movie. Get a brief history of the company and sample different rums. We were expecting a more hands on tour. The factory stuff.

So let me just warn you, this isn't a tour. I hope you don't get suckered into coming to this place on a tour. We took a local cab, admission was $4. It cost us about $13 total. You're basically going to walk into a room, where they show you barrels. You will then watch a movie about the company, then enter another room where you'll be shown 2 more things. You're then allowed to sample the 10 rums they have. When I say sample, they pour in maybe 1/10 of a shot. So if you sample each one, its basically like you've taken one shot of rum. Whole tour took about 30 minutes.
I will say the rum is decent and dirt cheap to buy.

this was part of our city tour, but the way they make rum, is very similar to the way we make bourbon in Kentucky-and they even use our old oak barrels-the end product is a smooth, strong rum-I prefer the flavors but the Rebel is a very good drink!

Is there a charge for the tour, and if so, how much?
