Definitely worth it. 20 DOP for an infinite ride with a card, or 40 DOP without. Fantastic ride. Clean, safe, lots of space between seats. There's a guard at every station.

I have traveled extensively across the United States and let’s be honest! The subways in the US are awful (NYC, I’m talking to you lol). I must admit the metro in Santo Domingo is far more advance, efficient and beautiful to any metro in NYC, Chicago and San Francisco.

The Santo Domingo Metro is the only subway in the Caribbean. It is a great method of exploring the sights of the city. The subway operates between 6:00 am to 10:30 pm daily. A trip costs RD$35 with a disposable card, but a daily card may be more economical if you are regularly riding the subway. The subway runs for 48 km throughout the city with a north to south (blue) and east to west (red) line.
I used the subway to visit military monuments of Simon Bolivar (a short walk north of Joaquín Balaguer), José de San Martín (outside Juan Bosch station) and Maximo Gomez (outside of Juan P. Duarte station). Other attractions on the blue line include the many museums and sculptures of the Plaza of Culture (Casandra Damirón station) and monuments to the Dominican fight for independence and democracy, a short walk south of the Centro de los Héroes station. I would recommend this method of transport for any visitors to the city.

One night there me and my daughter was waiting on a bus, we did not realize the time and being on a Sunday it is harder to get public transport to certain areas at night. So we came upon the sign for the metro and decided to give it a try. It was a wonderful experience very clean and effecient, I would ride it again when there.

The Santo Domingo Metro (Spanish: Metro de Santo Domingo) is a rapid transit system in Greater Santo Domingo. Serving the capital of the Dominican Republic, it is the most extensive and second-oldest metro system in the insular Caribbean and Central American region by length and number of stations.

this metro features the same system as that of Madrid. The cars are comfortable and efficient, and the stations are beautiful. ONly bad thing is that at the moment there are not many lines, and too bad that middle class in santo domingo consider themselves too stuck up to ride the metro.

Used the Metro many many times. always comfortable and fast. Last time I bought a card with 10 trips and only used 4, so I still have e few left. This card is cheap and makes it even faster when traveling. You don`t have to stand in line to buy a ticket.. not that it takes a long time, the ticket office works fast. I can recommend the Metro to anyone it`s safe, comfortable and really cheap.

Good morning
I am not sure what you expect of the subway but it is not urban and far reaching like other places it follows a very strict set route the is not very tourist oriented. I t was designed for the locals to get from the outer mountains into the city for work. You should make your way down to the Colonial Zone Park in the adjoining local neighborhoods and follow the well designed and laid out sight seeing paths depending on your interest there are very well laid out historic walking tour, shopping or social drink inking walking tour. Please let me know more of what you want to accomplish

Hermanos Trejo No. 1.
