Saw this both during daytime and during an evening outdoor concert. It's a huge place that allows everyone to relax, enjoy the atmosphere of families, marches, music and dance while having a drink or a bite to eat at the restaurants on one side, or simply under the shade of a tree. All with the backdrop of the House of Colon and the river.

The Plaza provided a welcome break from my very hectic day of travel. The building was historic and beautiful, but the surrounding area and local flavor were what made this an exceptional stop.

The park is surrounded with restaurants and the plaza is buzzing with activity. The Columbus Home dominates the port side of the park. Great place to hang out and connects to Calle de Las Damas, the first paved street in the Americas.

This is THE nice access point for the Colombus Alcazar and to the restaurants and bars all around but they are expensive and not that great.

We took a whole day tour in Santo Domingo and this Plaza was the first halt during the excursion. It looks nice....but I have to mention waist all over you look at the Plaza. This was the only disturbing moment while visiting this place.

Not a much better historical place to have a drink people watch and imagine the things that passed through this point.

Plaza de Espana was once a vast open field prior to the arrival of Spanish colonizers. It later became the starting point for soldiers as they paraded in regal fashion around the nearby palace of Diego Colon.

now these days, this open square in the heart of Santo Domingo is a popular gathering spot for locals and travelers. Numerous restaurants and cafes offer an opportunity to relax with a cup of coffee, a traditional Dominican meal or a glass of wine, while the open space provides room for concerts and other performances.

The square is most often visited as part of a city tour—whether its on foot, Segway or bike. The nearby Bateria del Almirante is a perfect spot to check out stunning views of the Ozama River during daylight hours and visitors can also walk to the oldest commercial road in the city from Plaza de Espana.

Interesting square. This was the end of our walking tour. There are restaurants and shaded areas. Quick access to Alcazar de Colon, and Calle las Damas.

I highly recommend that this location be added to your Santo Domingo tour list. Much of this area is walkable and there are many locations from fine dining to a quick snack.
