Excellent historical and colonial place par excellence. We liked it a lot. We went from Punta Cana in one day, we have visited places with a lot of Columbian history and everything that that implies. For those who like this, I recommend it. Very notable for the excellent guide Angelo (I don't know his last name) an open book

My husband I I stayed at Punta Cana however we wanted to see Dominican Republic Capitol City: Santo Domingo. It is worth the ride. There is a new toll road that in about 2 hours takes you to Santo Domingo from Punta Cana. Not to miss the first Cathedral in the Americas ca 1523 with a Gothic style, very difficult to find in the new world. Must see the Alcazar of Diego Colon (Christopher Columbus son) first New Spain Viceroy, it is very well preserved. On the way you can visit 3 ojos (3 eyes) caves formation with spring water (you cannot swim but can appreciate the beauty of natural formations) if entrance is not included in your tour make sure to check prices in the official booth before buying it from a "guide" outside the facility. Also you cannot miss Christopher Columbus tomb on the way to Santo Domingo. Don´t miss to try local food like mofongo or ceviche. You can either take a tour (usually arranged by the hotel concierge) that leaves early in the morning arround 7 am. Or negotiate with a tour operator /taxi, if you are 4 people is worth the private tour.

We booked a Santo Domingo excursion with VIP tours from Catalonia resort in Bayahibe we arranged with them and paid $80 for pick up from the hotel at 12:00 pm and take us to Santo Domingo for city tour then to the airport to catch our flight back home.
At 12:00 we met out driver which I expected to be a tour guide as well but he wasn’t and he spook little English… we had to wait for like 15 minutes with no explanation but it was clear there was a problem in coordination for some reason which was never explained to us.
After that we hit the road and made it to the historical area of Santo Domingo around 2:30 pm. When we got there the driver start talking in Spanish to someone with an idea where he came in the car and introduced himself as Michael from ministry of tourism and he start explaining things and giving us a tour.. At the end of the tour he took us to a big market to buy gifts and souvenirs.
When we got to the car he asked us for $40 for his service and said that this service wasn’t a part of the VIP tour excursion I paid for… I gave him $20 and explained to him that this is not acceptable since I was not informed in advance about this service and you didn’t give me the option to accept or decline.
After nagging for few minutes I gave him another $7 so he can just leave us alone.
We didn’t like the harassment from him or the fact that our travel agent didn’t informed us about this service… we left the area with just a bad experience and not much warm feeling about the area.
If you are going to the area either have it setup with the travel agency in advance so you won’t have to deal with those scammers or just walk around and enjoy it.. At the cathedral you can get the audio tour and it will explain everything in your language.

Just got back from Tui’s Santo Domingo exclusive. Cost £100 each therefore not a cheap trip. Includes a meal with drinks, which was ok,, water on the go & apparently breakfast which turned out to be a muffin, coffee & fruit juice, which was not enough. The tour guide was extremely informative & definitely knew his stuff however the day was very repetitive. The cathedral, house which Diego Columbus lived in, train ride & 4d film were good however this is all you needed. This whole day could of been condensed very easily into half a day. We walked round the old town twice, plus the train took you round too,,, telling you the same stuff you’d just been told!!!! The guide gave us an hour free time which was way too long. In fact did we need any?? Prior to this, he said he was going to show us some culture & takes us into a souvenir shop!!!! Was out for 12 hours in total & in my opinion the trip did not need this. Overpriced & dragged out.

Great experience - got away from the beach and toured the capital city of the Dominican Republic. Saw the early castle of the Conquistadors, a show of Middle Age Spanish Fashion, got a great tour of the museum, then enjoyed the view from our bus while we drove past other interesting sights in this early city with the first Cathedral in the Americas and the first streets in the New World. Stopped for a fantastic lunch and some time for shopping. All in all a great way to spend your day!

Really nice excursion in French, English and Spanish.
At the first stop we have a little Shopping area with a Cigar and Chocolate museum where it is possible to buy products.
Thé next stop at the national park was a great discovery with the Los tres Oros cenote which are my favorite. Really great but not suitable for those who have difficulties walking as there are a lot of stairs.
Then we arrive to the city and the historical excursion started, it was very interesting and gave a lot of input for those who are interested in the American/Caribbean colonization. Johnny, the guide, was perfect and would always give anecdotes in the the languages, he also would answer our questions.
It was a really good day.

This excursion was wonderful. Our first stop was "La cueva de los 3 ojos." Very interesting place. We then went to the Columbus Lighthouse, although our tour guide was very informative we didn't get to go inside. Then they showed us around the city and we got to see the Plaza de Espana Alcazar, el Panteon, el parque colon and the Cathedral. After getting to know the city we went to lunch (which was included; except the beer). Lunch was ok, the Spanish food at the resort was better. We ended our excursion at a souvenir shop where we got to try mamajuana. The souvenirs at this shop are a bit cheaper than at the resort. Overall, this was a great experience and our tour guide Anthony, was very knowledgeable. He spoke Spanish, English and Russian during the tour, but he said he can speak several language aside from those 3. If you are taking this excursion plan to be out for the whole day, as it takes about 3 hours to get there and back from Punta Cana. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in learning about the history of the Dominican Republic.

Decided to take this excursion, being on the island for two weeks, it was a change from the beach and pool. Can be a long day, depending on your pick-up location. It can take up to 4 hours from Ulvero Alto to the capital. Four great visits on this tour and a pleasant break for lunch with a little entertainment. The food was ok and included a small desert, water and coke. There is a little time to yourselfafter lunch which is nice but beware, our guide, who spoke three languages fluently, did not do a head count in between stops so you have to be on your gurad. The guide was extremely knowledgable and our driver was superb given the hectic way motobikes, cycles and pedestrians inetrweave with traffic. Not cheap but overall a good day.

Hola, podrian asesorarme al respecto de la excursion? Viajo a Punta Cana y quiero conocer Santo Domingo, que me recomiendan? Cual es la empresa que no recomiendan? Muchas gracias

I wish I could remember. We went to the walled part of the city, the cathedral, a few other things. Drove thru the city, then went to Tres Ojos... which are caves. Booked thru our Apple Vacations rep at the resort.

Quisiera saber el costo de la excursion desde Punta Cana.
Written January 20, 2015
Tenes que negociar segun la cantidad de personas, para 2 personas tenes desde 140 hasta 170 dolares para ambos, no pagues mas que eso.
