I booked an excursion to Saona Island through Colonial Tour and Travel at the Arzobispo Meriño branch. There was a minor earthquake in the early hours of the morning of the excursion. The driver arrived on time and was very courteous. On our way, the driver was informed that the authorities closed the shores for safety concerns. I went back to the Colonial Tour and Travel office and they said that they were going to issue me a refund. I provided my bank account. I also informed them that was leaving the country within the next few days They did deposit the full amount. For that reason, I will consider this company in the future. At short notice we asked Colonialtour for a travel arrangement from Santo Domingo back to Puerto Plata that was tailored to our needs. Ms. Nicauly Marte advised us professionally and with great commitment and put together a suitable tour program for us within 2 days. She was also our contact person during the trip and was always available to give us advice and support by phone.

Lady behind the counter not friendly or particularly helpful. When the time to board the bus came, the person who came to pick us up didn't even ask our names, nor did he check whether everyone was present. He just proceeded to walk towards the bus and we had to guess we were supposed to follow him. The tour itself was expensive, considering what it included, and involved travelling in a freezing cold bus/catamaran for 90% of the time, to be at Saona Island for only 2h. The guide himself was okay, but not making much effort beyond the basic stuff.

Receptive to Exoticisms in the Dominican Republic.
Reception at the airport correct. Group transfer by bus a little long on the way there and back (more than an hour while our hotel was 20 minutes away) time to go to all the hotels.
Excursions offered: We promise you a lot of things with a lot of paid options and that's the game! Nothing to say about that.
But the problem remains implementation!
Whale excursion in Samana Bay with waterfall option: Very very long transport with several changes of minibus, bus with endless waits.
Searching for whales with a 25-seater speed boat in rough seas: from the start it was obvious that we would see nothing! Whales with their calves stay below the surface to avoid the swell. In addition the "pilot" spent his time on the phone trying to find out something... so a small boat stationary in rough seas, imagine the yoyo and the results for the passengers.... and how his helpers remained seated very quietly at be bored (I remain polite)...
Meals: you shouldn't be hungry, unless you gnaw the chicken bones.
Fortunately the waterfall with its horseback access saved the day a little.
In summary, to do possibly but on a big boat (those who were present did not seem to move too much).
Saona island excursion. Organization of transport as chaotic as ever and carried out in conjunction with the Catalina Island excursion on the way out. Several minibuses joining several buses.... a real disaster!
Catamaran (motor, not sail) for the outward journey. Attempt to set the mood among the fifty vacationers, without any success due to the music played and the "quality" of the DJ (20 to 30 seconds of waiting between each song).
Arrival on the island: crowded, plastic deckchairs for hundreds of meters, hard huts... Nothing to do with our previous visits 10 and 15 years ago.
Initially waiting for more than an hour next to the boat anchored a short distance away so that the captain might want to leave his nap....
Natural swimming pool: no longer located in the open sea but 100-150 m from a beach in the nature reserve.
In short, excursion to avoid and favor Catalina.
Another very unpleasant "custom": the forced sale of the bandana on the catamaran, the bottle of mamarouana on the bus on the way back, not to mention the requirement for a tip, just to reward them for the mediocrity of the service provided.
The only compensation was that the lobster served on the island was excellent.
But it still remains expensive for the result obtained!
Perhaps we should favor the excursions offered by the hotel or others!...

Day the mountain redunda+waterfall +los haites
Catch tourists, the mountain just the viewpoint then the waterfall with the meal not top not to mention a medium hygiene and a place made of bric and broc, the explanations about cocoa very basic and fast. Visit of los haites by boat, not to make boat in very bad condition.
The guide .... pass your way...
150 euros per person is not worth the price

Inquired details on excursions from Punta Cana. No replies from persons in charge of tour operators and online bookings. The email address for the Punta Cana representative is invalid. The website is still up but the company may have closed its doors. Proceed with CAUTION, do not pay for anything unless they contact you first.

Went on Colonial Tours and Travel from Santo Domingo to Soana Island. Was like cattle being led to slaughter. Hustled on to boat, then to island. Lunch is marginal and there are hundreds of other tourists waiting in line for food. Then hustled on to catamaran, then speed boat.
My wallet and iphone was stolen somewhere between catamaran and speed boat. The guide said he would look for it and to call him the next day. Which my hotel did for me. He told them he would call right back. He never did. My hotel called him many times and never heard back from him.
I sent an email to Colonial Tours regarding the lack of customer service. I never heard back from them either. Save your money and DO NOT BOOK with this rip-off company.

Hands off! The worst excursion agency ever! They lie to you, make false promises and try to get all your money.
In our case, we booked a tour to the damajagua waterfalls near puerto plata for 55USD/pers. We made the booking through our hotel (we speak fluent Spanish) our deal was an excursion from 8am to 5pm including all 27 pools of the damajagua waterfalls, including transport, drinks, lunch, safety equipment, guide.
What happened was: they arrived 20 minutes late to our hotel, to pick us up at 8.20. Which is, when u are on holiday, 20 minutes more sleep. Then, the guide told us we are about to do a "safari tour", which means: coffee plantation, handcrafted work and at the end waterfalls, with just 7 pools! We were saying "no" to that, since we booked for something else. The guy was looking at us as if we were joking and not respecting us, even though we spoke Spanish and told him we didn't book any tourist excursion where we visit places where they sell stuff to us, but only booked the 27 waterfalls. It took like 20 minutes to argue with him till he was agreeing to just bring us to the waterfalls without going to the other places. In the car, we asked him him again that we would like to visit all the waterfalls and not just the 7. He was saying no, we would just visit 7 pools. Then he called his boss and gave me the phone to talk to her. She was arguing that we just booked for the 7 waterfalls and not more. Then suddenly she said, it would not be possible to visit more pools, since the rest of the pools are closed to public because of heavy rain the week before. I hardly understood her on the phone, the quality of connection was very poor and her english bad. So we ended the call. Later the guide collected the money in our minibus and when I asked him about the lunch he said there would be no lunch, which was the next disappointment. Arriving at the falls, there were many people and we had to wait like 20 minutes to start the hike up to the pools. We asked another guide if there is only 7 Pools open, and he said no, all the pools are open to public... So the boss lied to us on the phone! The pools and everything was really nice and a lot of fun! Bring your own watershoes! Not for small kids or elderly! Finally after the pools , the guide agreed that we can have free lunch, which we enjoyed. Then at around 2pm they brought us back to the hotel by minibus. Overall I must say, don't book with them, they lie to you and just want the maximum of money and to cheat you
