Spent a day at NEPTUNE restaurant in Boca Chica. For no extra charge you can go into this resort, camp out in a beautiful location and enjoy their facilities free of charge. Once there of course you pay for your food and drinks, all in...More

This place could be awesome if it weren't for all the huslters and restaurants ripping people off. Not all the restaurants do that which is why you see some places packed and others empty because they lose repeat business. Lots of street kids and locals...More

The beach is beautifull. However it is also dirty, and full of people wanting a tip. It is amazing how the authorities can neglect such a beautiful spot so close to the capital. The strategy should be exactly the opposite and should be much more...More

I would not called it a ghetto. One thing to remember is that the average income in Dominican Republic is $150 - $300 usd. With that being saying, I have become very fun of the Boca Chica beachfront restaurants. It is a great atmosphere in Boca Chica. At night, the main street near the beach is blocked off, and most of the restaurants put chairs in the street, and it becomes one big party. On the other hand, if a environment with a mix of locals, fresh seafood, and reasonable price hotels is not what you are looking for, It would be better for you to choose another location. Maybe, Punta Cana, where all the big resorts have purchased the beaches, and all the resorts are secluded. Should, I mentioned that he workers there are paid $150 a month, and may work 12 hour days. And I have seen at least 50 or more workers being transported in a delivery truck with no windows.
So, I will take Boca Chica over Punta Cana any day or night. The sunset is beautiful in Boca Chica. I enjoyed that view from a reasonably price hotel.
