Beautiful trail with lots to see

I highly recommend this easy hike through primary rain forest. We saw parrots and other birds. We also enjoyed the views.

Like some others, we were fortunate enough to drive up here with the very knowledgeable Dr, Bertrand (Birdy) for an afternoon hike. With a total elevation gain of 2000 feet, you are in a different world than down on the coast, a world of both dense primary growth rainforest and a cornucopia of cultivated plants.  After a brief side trip... First of all, how to get there. There are no buses that take you up to the start of the walk. We love to walk, so we took the bus from Portsmouth and got dropped off on the main highway by the road that starts up the mountain. The key word here is up and that it is over 5... More

The drive to the trail was up a mountain along a narrow winding road bordered by small farms. The views are spectacular. When we reached the nature center no one to collect the $5 fee, bathrooms etc were closed. Beautiful trail with unique flora and fauna. Easy walk; we saw quite some different species of birds, including Parrots. It was... More

We went on a morning hike with Dr. Birdy, (Bertrand) a local icon, forester, tour guide, and local bird expert, who is known by everyone. The drive to the trail was up a mountain along a narrow winding road bordered by small farms. The views are spectacular. As we approached our destination we would stop, walk, and look around while... Drove up here early morning to try to see some parrots. Interesting drive back in off the road with plantations along the way. Beautiful trail with unique flora and fauna. Didn't see parrots but we could hear them . It was a little disappointing that the visitor center is no longer open. We had heard there was some interesting info... More

We spent about an hour here one morning to see the parrots. Our guide, Stephen, was able to spot them and point them out to us. We were able to see them fly by from the balcony of our apartment but we got to actually see them sitting still and enjoy them for a longer period of time. Very nice.
