- Travel L16 contributionsNice location and ready to batheAnother beautiful enclave of Dominica. Easy to get to by excursion or rental car. You have to pay a small entrance fee, but access to the waterfall and pool is easy. Cool waters, but ideal given the humidity of the place.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2024
- RandyRossRidgetown, Canada12,714 contributionsBeautiful and PeacefulThe Emerald Pool in Morne Trois Pitons National Park was our first stop on our tour of Dominica and it is a World Heritage Site. I walked down to the pool and touched the water, while my wife opted to avoid the many steps but still enjoyed the walk though the forest. Among other things, we saw a local lizard - the Dominica Anolis, and a local bird - a Rufous-throated Solitaire. This is a beautiful and peaceful trail ending at a beautiful poll and waterfall. If you have the chance, we highly recommend that you visit this place.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 3, 2024
- BeauOxford, United Kingdom10 contributionsA hiker’s dream start !!The trip was incredible !! Hubert was such a kind and welcoming host. We drove up to Emerald Pool first, and then Spanny Falls, where we walked some more. He’s so passionate about educating people about Dominica. I learnt a lot about its history, its context, and so much more. It’s the first thing I’ve done in Dominica and it’s fair to say that I’m so impressed by it all. I took loads of photos, and he also offered to take some of me as well, which was very kind. They all came out amazingly and I can’t wait to post them on my social media !!Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 19, 2024

I think it was $5USD to get in, the "hike" is very easy along a path with some steps (some were a little slippy).
Our guide gave us the best advice... get there early to beat any crowds. I don't think it ever gets _overly_ crowded there, but we took the guides advice and arrived early, and had the whole place to ourselves... sometimes, when it gets crowded, I hear you cannot swim under the falls.

Pretty small waterfall pool that is highly trafficked. The pros are that the trail is very easy and well maintained. The day we went was rainy and it was later in the afternoon so there wasn’t a soul there. After having visited Sperry Falls and Victoria Falls this was not as exciting. There are a couple nice spots to view the valley and the Atlantic Ocean. If you are into a short easy hike and there aren’t a lot of people there it could be fun on a hot day.

Emerald Pool is magical. The short walk to get there is lovely- a walk through the pristine rainforest. Then you arrive at the pool and are in awe of the green/turquoise color that changes with the light of the sun. I can imagine this will get crowded if you go with a big group (like a cruise ship tour) as the pool is small. But if you are traveling in small groups, this is a place I would prioritize. We had the entire thing to ourselves- it was amazing!

Visited on a recent trip to Dominica. Went to Red Rock, Jacko Falls and Emerald Pool on the same day. Emerald pool trail was amazing. It was 16 ECD to enter as a tourist. Locals can go view for free. The walk down is calming, it’s deep in the lush forest.
I absolutely loved walking through and viewing the different trees and plants. It’s a short walk, maybe around 10 mins.
The view of the falls are breathtaking and it’s relaxing ans refreshing and tranquil.
Take a costume and take a dip. There’s a cave to explore next to it too. It’s about 40 mins drive from Roseau through the centre of the island. There are toilets and changing rooms and a local snack bar.
On the track back up depending on your route, you will see some stunning views that are magical off the east side of the island, rolling hills wild and rugged. Amazing! They say it’s the 2nd most visited place on the island and you’ll know just why when you visit.

Came here during our recent cruise stop, since there weren’t any beach options. The walk is not too bad, but can be tiring for older people as I saw a few struggling going back up all the stairs. Also if you have a little one that is too tired to walk up all the stairs, it can be tiring as well. The pool at the bottom is refreshing and makes for some nice pictures. We’re happy we chose this place even with the longer drive there from the port.

After visiting this attraction on the 22nd of February 2011 I would advise all visitors to go in a group and stay together. My partner and her son had walked on ahead and were out of sight, his wife was also out of sight behind me taking photographs when I was attacked from behind by a large 6' 4" young black man who had a very large machete. After a tussle during which I was run off into the rain forest so dropped to the ground to remain visible to the trail and shouted for help. I was then hit with the flat of the blade several times I handed over $150 US which I had in my top pocket ready to pay the taxi driver, but he was not happy with this and after another skirmish during which I managed to get the machete and grabbed his top which he slid out of he ran off into the rain forest, the rest of my party were by this time screaming at him and help was well on the way from the entrance to the park. I gave the Machete and his top to the Police along with a full report but as yet have not had any response from the Dominica officials. The whole experience was as I am sure you would agree very frightening, so Please, Please if you go there then please go in a group and stay together.

My son is in a wheel chair. Is this trail wheel chair accessible?

How do you get to the pool? Is there transportation if coming from a cruise ship?
Written August 19, 2018
I think you must contact a tour operator to be sure. It isn't very far from Rosseau but the drive is quite circuitous. We had hired a car from Courtesy Rentals.

How long does it takes to hike to Emerald Pool ? How nature it's to you ( compare to country beach which is crowded by people ) ?
Written March 4, 2018
It's been a while, but I believe it was 45 minutes. It's not beach-like, so there isn't a real comparison. It's a tourist location, so it won't feel secluded, and due to very cold water, you won't swim for extended periods.

It would be an hour drive on a windy road. Worth it though!
Written September 18, 2017
It is very well developed... meaning the walk is not paved, but might as well be! it has a dedicated visitor center, and has scattered signs and messages along the way describing plants and wildlife. Within dominica, which seemed to us, to be more 'raw and natural' this was the most developed and least 'natural'... although the emerald pool seems untouched (hopefully)
