A friend and I did two tours with Kurt from KHATT'S, both arranged through our hotel, to Middleham Falls and Trafalgar Falls/Titou Gorge. Our guide was friendly, knowledgable, and had a good sense of humour. For the Middleham Falls hike, he was accommodating to our desire to hike and see things in the area, as well as swim at the falls, and was attentive on the trail to hazards and making sure we navigated them safely. On the Falls/Gorge tour, he made every effort to navigate around larger groups from the cruise ships and timed stops perfectly around them. Very professional operation and a great experience.

Our tour guide, Lambert, took us through the botanical gardens and a drive through Roseau that had the most amazing views. The visit to the Ti Tou Gorge was the highlight. Swimming in the gorge was an incredible experience. He then took us to the Trafalgar Falls for more breathtaking views. Lambert was so knowledgeable and was an excellent guide. We would highly recommend this tour.

This tour was booked online for two couples traveling together as the itinerary sounded superior to those offered by the cruise ship. Ken met us at the port in Roseau and we were off for a great day off driving the rugged terrain of Dominica, made more difficult buy the 2015 storm damage resulting in some temporary roads and bridges. We traveled from Roseau up the west coast to the north end of the island taking in the scenery, the diverse topography and learning about the history and culture of Dominica from Ken. We stopped periodically for photos and as we were traversing to the east coast stopped at the "Cold Soufriere" with water bubbling from the ground but it was cold instead of boiling hot. we continued through small remote villages and rough terrain noting rain forests along the way. The sight of the Atlantic Ocean emerging far below on the east side was spectacular and eventually we past the home of the Prime Minister in the village of Vielle Case where we witnessed a cricket game in progress. We passed the Bay of Au Tou, where scenes from the pirates of the Caribbean were filmed. We then traversed back to the west side and the town of Portsmouth where we stopped at "The Tomato" for lunch. After returning to Roseau we drove to a scenic overlook of the city and port area. We learned much during this special day and developed an appreciation for the rugged terrain and the difficulties of tending crops and living in the mountains of Dominica. We were totally engaged in conversation and Ken was a wealth of knowledge. Just a great day well spent.

I'll just say this is my opinion of my experience. I'm giving this a "poor" instead of "terrible" because I wrote the owner Ken the same day and he graciously responded quickly, apologized and refunded half of what we paid. I thought that was very professional. My husband and I do many hiking vacation around the world and this certainly did not compare to any guided hikes we've been on.

I'm still giving this a poor rating as I was shocked/ disappointed in the lack of basic safety and customer focus from the tour guide Lambert. I think other potential customers should ask questions before going on a tour with this company. Hopefully, things have improved.

we booked a private tour to middleham falls from our hotel Ft. Young. They told us to wear bathing suits as it was an easy hike. It wasn't. The trail was very wet from recent rains and still impacted from Maria.

Lambert barely spoke to us. We didn't really get a "tour" or any overview of the local flora/etc. He had a waterproof camera and took off ahead of us. He didn't advise us to bring water or provide water. we didn't see that he had a first aid kit or a phone for emergencies.

He stayed ahead of us most of the way. We asked him to slow down several times as the trail was slippery and hard to navigate. He told me not to worry about keeping up with him as he does the trail so often he's very familiar with it. In my opinion, if you're paying for a private tour, a guide should pace with his customers and make sure they feel comfortable. the pace was so fast that we didn't feel like we got to enjoy the view, which was beautiful. We were also dehydrating as it was HOT. I eventually stopped and asked them to go on without me to the waterfall. My husband said when they got there Lambert took his own pictures and didn't offer to help my husband at all.

On the way back we had to cross water again near the edge. Lambert crossed ahead of us and went up the trail. He left us to cross it on our own. I almost fell, my husband was trying to help me and keep his balance. Lambert finally came back and helped me. I was shocked at this experience as someone could have very easily been hurt . We would not ever use this tour company again. I think we could have done this hike better on our own at our own pace.

This is my 6 tour with Ken- As a travel agent and traveling with my guests, I am very particular who i Chose to take us to the heart of the area I want to travel in.
I took 86 guests to Dominica and went to Titou Gorge. From the minute we got off the ship to our return, everything was spectacular! Ken met us at the dock with names on the bus manifest for all my guests which made this very incredible. My specific driver was Clem, who was full of knowledge and a delight to drive with. He was professional, extremely knowledgable and we truly felt safe to be in his vehicle while driving throughout the mountain side.

Thank you for this incredible Journey- I can't wait to get back to Dominica with my group again next year!

Although I couldn't find many reviews online about Ken's Hinterland Adventure Tours (also called KHATTS), I went ahead and booked the Land Sea Melange excursion for my family's day on Dominica. The tour included stops at Champagne Reef, Titou Gorge, and Trafalgar Falls, all of which were great. Our guide, Clem, was fantastic! He was knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and a great driver, which came in handy in a few tight situations. He came with us at each stop to lead us and point out wildlife and other interesting things.

The tour started at 9 a.m. and ended around 3 p.m. We got off the cruise ship early and found the KHATTS office down the street, although Ken was planning to meet us at the pier. We were fortunate because we were the only ones to book that day, so we had the tour all to ourselves. (The van can take up to 12 people.) We didn't feel rushed along the way, and Clem tried to pace it so that we would arrive at each attraction before the other tour groups.

If you take the Land Sea Melange tour, wear your swimming suit and water shoes. It is possible to swim at all three stops, and walking over rocky ground is required. Also, bring snacks along because the tour doesn't stop for lunch.

Overall, I would highly recommend KHATTS to anyone interested in seeing a lot of Dominica's highlights in a short amount of time.

KHATTS was fantastic! The guides were friendly and knowledgeable, the management and coordinators were flexible even when we needed to change our itinerary and schedule of activities. They took care of all the transportation to and from the excursions. Overall, excellent and highly recommend!

Request the tour guide CLEM...he was fantastic. What an amazing family trip. We booked this privately (we were on a cruise and didnt use their excursions). They picked us up from the port and provided excellent travel to 4 sites. Gorgeous rainforest and 2 waterfalls and i gorge. We climbed the waterfalls and saw beautiful forest. Clem actually swam with us and guided us up the treacherous waterfall. What an amazing family memory.

We had an enjoyable visit to Trafalger Falls and Hot Springs. Loved the hot springs, very relaxing. We also did the Boiling Lake hike. It was a difficult and exciting hike. It consisted of approximately 6 hours total of constant walking mixed with climbing. I'm glad we did it. Wear at a minimum athletic shoes, hiking shoes would be optimal. Whatever pair of shoes you wear will be completely saturated and muddy at the end of the hike. This hike is for the sure footed, and those who are not afraid to use their hands for moderate climbing. Bring a light shell/jacket in case of rain.

The drivers are wonderful - they are careful and knowledgeable of the roads, and they know a lot about the history and culture of Dominica. Clem, Garth, and Ally were just some of the great drivers, and our groups relied on their transportation around the island for weeks. It was a great experience using KHATTS.
