Costs 50 EC per person to have a local guide take you around the river. Jerome was our guide and he was great, informative and easy to talk to. It’s a lovely place with some very large crabs which were cool to see.

You need a national park pass which you can buy from the petrol station near by which you show to the national park representative before getting onto a boat. Then you pay your guide separately for the tour.

The tour around the river takes 1.5 to 2 hours which we found to be good value for money.

Sadly the bush bar had not reopened yet as tourist numbers are still low.

Exceeded expectations. Highly recommend this trip to experience the natural beauty of this wonderful island. 007 James Bond provided a knowledgeable narration which made our time especially memorable. His passion and appreciation for the river made for a fabulous experience. Thanks to Miguel at M-Vision Transportation for arranging our visit. 767-617-7806.

This is a nice guided nature trip that takes about 90 minutes. They row you upriver and explain all the birds, flora and fauna and if your lucky you can get a drink at the riverside bar at the halfway point (it was closed for us). No complaints, but given the many incredible things to do on the island this was kind of average.

The "rowboat" we took ended up having an outboard motor to get the thing started up stream. That's fine. The problem was, after the motor conked out, the poor fellow "rowing" only had one row (more like a pole) and 8 of us in his boat. He toiled the whole way and I felt really bad for him. The scenery is very much like what we had seen on other islands, no outstanding differences. The guide was so busy trying to get us upstream he didn't narrate much. There were a couple iguanas and a couple red crabs. The Bush Bar was cute, but eh. Overall I would not do it again. It was ok.

We booked on viatours.com, had a great experience with them. The local tourguide knows the Indian river area very well and has been giving tours since he was 15, his boat is also made by a local craftsman. There is always something to watch on the Indian river, we saw like 8 different bird species and several crabs and different fish.
The guide that gave us a tour by van and recommended food for us was also great and very funny. All in all a fun/ romantic and very relaxed experience!

The rowboat ride was relaxing with lovely flora, but no fauna. Our guide provided interesting commentary during the ride. It was interesting to view a prop/shack used in the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean and of course the rum punch served was refreshing. While I rated this excursion as "average", I enjoyed it and the drive to the river via countryside and small towns.

I had a lovely time with Cobra, our tour guide, who gave us amazing information about Dominica’s history as well as the current wild life which exists in Dominica.

I had Cobra’s number as he was someone who was recommended to me by someone I know as my grandparents are from Dominica but there are lots of tour guides in the area who’ll be more than happy to take you down the river.

An amazing experience and something I recommend any body who likes nature and a little boat ride.

The best time to go is 2/3pm as the sun isn’t as hot.

There is a lovely bar at the end of the tour with different rum punches as well as cards and books for groups.

Highly recommend for an exploratory day out!

My guidebook listed this as one of the top attractions in Dominica but it's really just an excursion for cruise ship passengers to which it is easy to bus people and where there is a predictable time frame associated.
The excursion consists of about a 60 minute rowing boat trip with about 20 minutes at a bar and gardens half way through. Boats are towed by pleasant, knowledgeable guides and the bar is friendly and low pressure.
I was hoping to see more wildlife (especially birds) but it was a bit disappointing in that respect. If you are on a cruise this might be a good trip to take because you will see the east coast and its villages and also experience the lush vegetation along the river. If you are staying in Dominica for a week you would not see anything that you haven't already seen.

We enjoyed this 2 ½ hour trip up the Indian River, lined with bloodroot trees and lush greenery, with glimpses of iguanas, crabs, hummingbirds and other wildlife. Mid-way we had a stop with a short walk to harvest bay leaves, coconut and ginger plant, and sample some of the locally grown fruits. Highly recommend our personable and experienced guide, Martin Carriere (VHF call sign “Providence”, 767-245-2700 or 767-614-6303), who included information on the history and culture of this interesting island.
