About
Curacao Art – History – Nature . ART : Throughout many generations Landhuis Bloemhof has become a vibrant meeting place for all art lovers. The legacy of Shon May Henriquez, a pioneer in the Curacao Art scene, who made way for many local artists , is well preserved through her frozen in time sculpture studio and also in our inspiring library and contemporary art exhibitions by local and foreign artists . On the premises you can visit the open air studio of Hortence Brouwn , a local sculptor . Art will surround you, as you wander around the premises. CATHEDRAL OF THORNS : You can also experience the unique Cathedral of Thorns by Herman van Bergen, a monumental artwork recommended by National Geographic Intelligent Travel. HISTORY : The Bloemhof estate dates back to 1735. At Bloemhof you will find traces of our different nationalities and how they have influenced our culture, our history and Curacao's Art scene. NATURE : Enjoy a walk through 18 acres of ‘Mondi’, in our natural park .

This felt like a hidden gem, and it offered a great look at the local art scene on Curacao. The woman who greeted us at the door and gave us a free tour (wish we got her name!) was so enthusiastic and welcoming. We went to see the Cathedral of Thorns but ended up enjoying the former studio of May Henriquez as well. Afterwards we went for coffee, cold drinks, and cake at the Number 10 restaurant. It was so good that we drove back the next day for lunch!

Our friends told us we had to see the Kathedraal van Doornen which is being built near the Landhuis Bloemhof . We met the artist Herman van Bergen who guided us through the Cathedral that is almost near completion which was great because he drew our attention to some things that we had not noticed . This is a very interesting work of art made from thorny branches specially treated and arranged in all kind of different shapes and various symbols of today's world religions .
After wards we had a great walk all around the landhuis and saw some other works from different artists .

You do not need to be an art connoisseur to love this tour... Our guide, Ruthson, gave a very detailed account of the landhaus history and families. It was a refreshing break from the business of Willemstad to walk through this beautiful garden of art, created by local talent. Thought provoking and inspiring, Herman van Bergen's cathedral of thorns is a gift to the island's people and visitors alike.
The walk is easy, along flat terrain, with added trails available. Sample local fruit fresh from the trees! Highly recommend.

This tour was one of the best I have ever had. Jennifer was my guide and she was so knowledgeable and friendly. I learned so much about the culture, agriculture and even met two of the artists that have their work on display there! If you’re thinking of doing this tour I would highly recommend it!

Someone recommended us to visit this landhuis and it was a really excellent idea. It's located in the financial area, very easy to find, and the person that greeted us at the entrance offered us complete information. The thorn sculpture at the garden was amazing. 100% recommended.

My husband and I spent two hours here this morning walking around on the nature paths that show what Curaçao used to be like before the deforestation. So lovely! There is also a sculpture garden and a cathedral of real thorns being built. The building used to be a synagogue and was quite interesting to walk around. All in all a very pleasant way to spend a few hours. Be sure to get the lemonade!

An island of green just off a busy street (Google Maps had it further North), it is an art gallery and nature preserve that was the home of a woman who brought much art and culture to Curacao. The staff gave a fascinating (free) intro to the buildings and grounds and showed us the sculpture-in-progress - a large open structure with walls of woven thorns. Fascinating. There is also a Mikva (Jewish ritual bath) on the property.

This tour is a great learning experience. You are able to learn about the Landhuis, including its history as a water plantation with slaves, May Henriquez, and other local artists. Definitely worth a visit!

Wonderful!! setting of natural paths and amazing artworks. Tour with Jennifer was engaging; she is full of wisdom and a great storyteller. We highly recommend this site. We got to talk with an artist in her outdoor sculpture studio, learn about the plants & trees on the pathways, and end our visit at an amazing restaurant.
