Whilst not religious myself I found the museum very interesting. A good chunk of the museum focused on telling the local story which I rather liked. The museum is air conditioned but it was still warm as some exhibits were upstairs. I'd definitely recommend if you are in the capital. For info we were asked not to take photos in the museum but were allowed in the inside the synagogue.

Space wise, the Jewish museum in Curacao is small, jam packed with a marvelous collection of antique Judaica. Signage could be better for tourists who are less than expert, but it is still mind-boggling for those who know the field.

The museum reflects the collection by the Curacao Jewish community over many centuries, from other islands as well.

Jewish life has a long history in Curacao and quite an important one. This small museum holds a treasure trove of information. I found many connections to other things i knew which proved to me how there is really a circle of life. The synagogue next door - in the same complex - is beautiful and with the sand floor very unique. A must see.

Wonderful staff and well kept museum. Much to see and ponder.
TV video gave insight into a community that did much to shape the island that we see today.
Artefacts impressive.

This museum is included as part of the $10 fee they charge to see the synagogue and museum. The museum is two stories and is quite small and easy to navigate, but houses a lot of interesting artifacts. The oldest being a Torah smuggled out of Spain in the late 1300's. They also have circumcision chairs from the 1700's. Take some time to look and learn. You don't need a lot of time here, but what they have is interesting.

She took us all over the island on a Jewish Heritage Tour. We found the tour interesting and very enjoyable. Gigi was knowledgable and entertaining. We would recommend her tour to anyone.

This struck me not as much as a museum, as a collection of items that have been owned by jews at some point, and which may or may not have any religious importance.

Being jewish, I knew what I saw. Most people wouldn't, as there is very little text to provide religous and/or cultural context, and there seems to have been placed very little thought to how the museum is laid out.

Interesting? Sure. Worth the price? Only because you also get admittance to the Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue in the bargain.

This old and elegant synagogue was a highlight of our experience on Curaçao. We walked the sand floor and found a living history of the Jewish families of Curaçao by turning over the kippahs at the door. The historical montage outside the synagogue is well-done and enlightening. My girlfriend read from a beautiful Torah scroll believed to have been written in 1392.

Curaçao has an impressively diverse mix of religions, ethnic groups and nationalities making it a fascinating bed of diversity - including a remarkable Jewish history. The adjacent synagogue is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere.

Admission to the Museum and Synagogue is $10. Consider it a charitable contribution to preserve an important historical site. The museum is small, but great. My favorite of many great displays and historical items is a piece of art made of old house keys reportedly brought by Jews in exile from Spain during the Diaspora from the Inquisition. They kept the keys in hope of a possible return.

From the museum website:
"Enjoy the many paintings, photographs and depicted family trees of founding fathers that bring the Jewish community to life and don’t hesitate to approach our friendly and knowledgeable museum staff with any questions you have. Our museum preserves the most precious religious and cultural artifacts on the island and many collection pieces are still used actively in the Congregation’s services and rituals of today. "

Fabulous Tour of the Jewish Community! Be ready to walk and bring a beverage...she stops at the cemetery and it gets pretty hot. She does NOT provide water like the other tours. She is truly a Do NOT Miss!!
