Not only did the Tugboat dive site become of my favorite dive spots in Curaçao (if not my absolute favorite), but I also learned so much from the experience!
Tugboat was nothing short of magic, with its “squid hangout” area, tugboat wreck, coral reef, coral nursery and pier. We saw so many different animals it was hard to keep track, all mixed with the beautiful colors of the water and corals...
Bob, the diving instructor I went with, was really nice and attentive, making sure I knew what we were doing at all times. He corrected that which I was doing wrong or remembered incorrectly, and as a result I learned useful diving practices that I will take with me on all my future dives. Additionally, he pointed out loads of cool animals and things for me to see - which is, in my opinion, the best part about having a guide. He also had a camera, and recorded lots of videos!
If you were coming to the island, wanted to dive, and had only one site to choose, this is one I would definitely recommend for you to do.

The staff at Jan Thiel Diving were very pleasant, thorough and professional from the booking process and all the way through to the completion of my PADI Open Water Dive Course. Maurice and Bob were amazing and timely with their correspondence in regards to questions that I had prior to my trip down FROM Canada to Curaçao. My dive instructor, Cas, was extremely helpful and patient throughout the course and really demonstrated a great understanding not only of the dive process but of the sites and history of the island which made the experience all the more enjoyable. Jan Thiel Diving staff were very passionate and knowledgeable about the sport and about respecting the surrounding underwater environment and its habitants. I cannot wait until my next trip back!

Cas was an amazing and personal instructor. They have endless patience no matter your skill level. In addition, they provide excellent service both in and out of the water with equipment, skills, and of course the dive spots they choose for the dive! Also, their knowledge about the marine life, the reefs, diving, and Curacao in general is extensive, making a conversation interesting and always welcome. They are never in a hurry and make every diver feel relaxed and comfortable, both for the dive and the overall trip. I highly recommend this dive shop for diving whether you're looking for a simple introduction or looking for your first/next certification!

We enjoyed the PADI Scuba Diver training with Cas Ortmans very much. His very friendly and calm attitude gave us a lot of confidence and trust to scuba dive for the first time. He adapted the training schedule without hesitation as we were too tired to continue.
My wife and I had a first look into this sport at the age of 60 - it is possible! - and it looks like at least my son has found a new challanging hobby.
I had only problems to bear the hot and calm weather with a very high humidity in October. But Cas let us forget the heat and showed us the miracles of the sea.

Bob was an excellent diving guide with good knowledge of the various dive sites of Curacao. Fully relaxed, but never losing focus on his clients and the underwater environment.. Very likely I will dive again with him next time I'm on Curacao

September 2021:
During our stay at Livingstone on Curaçao, we were able to make beautiful dives with Jan Thiel Diving. The highlights were really Turtle City (a total of 17 turtles) and the shipwreck 'Superior Producer' just off the coast of Willemstad. Bob, Dennis and Ingo are very relaxed and take good care of everyone who dives with them. The gentlemen managed to guide my girlfriend well, who had dropped out after an earlier attempt in the Philippines. The result was her Open Water certificate. Now enjoy the memories (and the well-cared for images). Many thanks for the wonderful experience!

Back at Jan Thiel Diving after 2 years! The quality is still at the high level that we experienced at the time. New location on the road and expanded in terms of gear, including DPVs, which we used at the fantastic Superior Producer wreck. Dived here on Curaçao with the whole family, including 1 open water course, 4 advanced courses, a deep diver course for myself and a lot of fun dives (lion fish hunting!) Thanks to the team for the patience, the fantastic dives, the southern conviviality and beautiful memories. Until next time! :)

Bedankt voor de mooie review! We zijn best een beetje trots dat jullie weer voor ons hebben gekozen om jullie duik avontuur voort te zetten. Ook heel mooi dat we Martin hebben mogen certificeren tot open water duiker, dik verdiend. Heel veel plezier in de aankomende duiken op de a en b eilanden.
We zien je graag terug voor je divemaster!

I did two 2-tank shore dives with Jan Thiel Diving while visiting Curacao, and all four dives were great. I did the first two dives with Esmee and we dove Tugboat and La Palapa. Esmee was an excellent guide and knew a great deal about the local history and history of both dive sites. The second two dives were with Dennis, and we dove Carpile and Director’s Bay. Dennis was also well versed in the history and significance of our two dive sites, and a great guide around the parts of Curacao we visited as well. I am relatively new to diving and both Esmee and Dennis kept the dive within my comfort zone and were very supportive. As I said earlier, all four dives were great, but I particularly enjoyed La Palapa and Director’s Bay. I would recommend Jan Thiel Diving to anyone visiting Curacao, be they an experienced diver or a newbie like me.

What a very nice possibility it is that if you are allowed to make your first dive on the beautiful Curacao that it can then be captured at Jan Thiel Diving! We are four experienced divers on Curacao for a diving holiday. We rented our diving tanks through Jan Thiel Diving. After some brief consultation, we were able to have filled diving cylinders available 24 hours a day, which was well arranged. This allowed us to make more night dives than planned, which was great.
On our next visit we will definitely go to Jan THiel Diving again, perfect service and in addition to good training they also know exactly where an experienced diver wants. Top!

Amazing experience and the staff at Jan Thiel scuba are the best. My instructor was Dennis and he was amazing. Not only is he funny, he’s very patient when you don’t understand something completely. He took us through the reefs to and saw many amazing things such as a school of fish, flounder and even saw an eel on my dive. I would highly recommend these guys for beginners.

How long does a Discover Scuba Dive take?

The PADI Discover Scuba Dive takes around 2,5 hours.
We start with a briefing about the dive equipment and the basics of diving, We will tell you about what we will do, what we bring and how we communicate under water. After this briefing and fitting of the gear, we go to a dive spot with a confined area. Here in the shallows we will take our time to to get used to be underwater and do some excersizes to become more comfortable with the gear. After this we will start to explore and enjoy the beautiful underwater life of Curacao! Hope to see you soon!
