This Square is named in honour of Felipe Luis Brión Detrox, also there is a large statue in his memory. It is located on the Otrabanda side of the Bay.

Brion was born on the 6th July 1782 in Plantage Rozentak, Curaçao he died on 27th September 1821 in Scharloo aged 39. He was a military officer who fought in Venezuela's war of Independence. He rose to the rank of Admiral in the Navies of Venezuela and the old Republic of Colombia

The Square is also home to the History in Motion monument. The historic significance is that it was here the flag of Curaçao was raised for the first time on the 2nd July 1984.

From the Square there are wonderful views across Santa Anna Bay to Handleskade and the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge as well as the impressive Queen Juliana Bridge.

There is a colourful bandstand at one end of the Square as well vibrant coloured houses.

When we were here in April a few bars and restaurants were were open around the Square. Slowly the City and it's businesses were opening up following the COVID pandemic and the fallout.

Great views and lots of stalls and stores. Must see!! See the ships come and go and move from Punda to Otra Banda via the moving bridge. Lots of stores on both sides and the people are very pleasant. Very colorful and enough landmarks to explore in the surroundings
