I have visited the Blue Room over 50 times as a snorkel guide on a charter boat. And from what we see, from the boat's perspective, we honestly think it is dangerous to go there without anyone looking out for you. On several occassions we have rescued tourists (that did not book a tour with us but went there by themselves) that were terrified, panicked and almost drowned. We had to rescue them, bring them to our boat to calm down and then they had to climb the rocks to walk back to their car. We have seen people trying to climb out from the water without shoes and scratching/hurting their feet. We have had people bump their head in the entrance which resulted in a nasty scratch. We have had people panicking inside the cave, not wanting to go out.
On a good day the entrance is easy and no big deal. But that does not happen very often. And with waves/current pushing and pulling you around it can be a dangerous situation. On our charters to the Blue Room there are days where we decide to not enter the cave, based on our experience. And on those days we see a lot of people struggling/panicking. When we tell them it is not safe to enter most of them thankfully listen to us. It is for your own good.
If you are not a good swimmer, do not go there alone or by land. Book a tour with the charter boats or hire a local guide to go with you. It will be totally worth your money when you have an experienced person with you telling you what to look out for/expect.
I do not recommend the kayaks as it is a long journey and an even longer journey back, without anyone keeping an eye on you. The current is very strong and highly underestimated. While you are tired of swimming in the cave you still have a long way to go back to Santa Cruz beach.
I cannot speak for Captain Goodlife's trips but I do believe you are better off with someone closeby then by yourselves.

Amazing experience! A magical place. Have done it in June and January. January was definitely more challenging as you need to swim under the rocks to enter.
If you are not a strong swimmer would recommend doing it only with good supervision and support! Would not recommend doing it alone.

Captain Good Life took us there by boat (Let's go watersports) with his lovely daughter "Isa"
Our 5 year old love the drill and we had to get in and out of the cave 3 times... cause we had to go or we would still be there.
It's not an extreme adventure but believe claustrophobic people might have doubts to go in but proper guidance will solve it.
It's beautiful as the rest of the coast line. A must "to do"...

Mixed reviews. Mixed was also our experience, literally a night and day difference between the two days we spoke to “Capt Goodlife”. We strongly advise against doing business with him.
We came here for a boat trip to the cave, Goodlife was very friendly but indicated that it was not possible to sail for 2 people. Understandable. He recommended going in the morning because there is less wind with a kayak that you can also rent from him.
When we came back a few days later for the kayak, he was a different man, unfriendly, rude, slightly aggressive, no explanation about the kayak, which was placed in the wild surf by his daughter. We stood there looking a bit desperate as to what to do next and asked where exactly we should go, what to do with our belongings, etc. and he angrily rushed downstairs and shouted what we were doing or if we were damaging the boat.
We saw that too and wondered if we really want this for us, the answer was no. Once home we started reading reviews more carefully and we were very happy with our choice. Depending on the wind and water level, this trip is extremely dangerous, especially without proper guidance.

I feel like Captain Googlife hasn't gotten any better or friendlier over the years. We waited for him for more than 45 minutes because he was due to sail at 3 o'clock in the afternoon... After waiting 45 minutes and asking the lady at the bar a few more times for the captain, we left with nothing accomplished. . Zero respect for your customers who can at least let them know that you will not sail for 2 people instead of not showing your face at all. Disappointing, but I don't think we missed much.

Alright. We went with “Captain Goodlife.” That’s a good name if it refers to how you feel after getting out of his boat with your life. His daughter is the most competent person in the world. She saved the lives of everyone there, and one guy twice. Captain Goodlife, however, didn’t check his boat in the morning. So he starts w a song on the radio that goes “f*** her” in Spanish, repeatedly. That’s the first time his daughter yelled at him. The second time was when he tried to check the oil and refuel the boat with a lit, unashed cigarette in his mouth. He also omitted how bad the tide was that day. Then, he dropped the anchor unsuccessfully, flagged down two customers that rented kayaks (from him), and paddled back to shore with zero explanation while a tourist had a heat stroke and his daughter managed the lives in his hands. Since the anchor never got… anchored, we were drifting closer and closer to Venezuela, which was pretty freakin scary considering the circumstances. Not only is seeing land again getting less and less likely, now it’s a toss up over whether I’m even welcome on the land I end up on??
Finally, he gets back w a long canoe and asks if anyone wants to continue the tour. Amazingly, three Dutch tourists said yes. I, however, got (some, because he’s a dad and I am not a citizen of curaçao, so I figured I’d take what i got and go before this guy gets weirder). The point is that it’s been enough time that his daughters are probably long gone anyways. Initially, we decided to leave it because the daughter can run that “excursion” with her eyes closed and she lived there. Now, it feels less consequential. So here’s a photo of the dude smoking a cigarette into the engine compartment of a smoking boat with 20 tourists and his daughter on board.

Super dangerous, I am sure that some visitors die in the process of getting in. We are four guys in our twenties and pretty much in shape. We had snorkel gear and two of us cut our forehead open on the rocks of the entrance with another lady up the cliff that cut hers too. You think you have arrived but you are probably just halfway there. So half of the group almost drowned and honestly it is better in picture than in real life. In my opinion, this place should not be opened to tourists as it is. It needs to have real diving equipment rentals and a real guide that makes all of this more secure.

One of the best experiences I had in Curacao. I took the boat from Playa Santa Cruz (it leaves at 1 pm or 3 pm). It cost 30 dollars per person and he took us to the blue room, budha cave and some more snorkeling spots (the tour does not include snorkels, you have to bring your own). But the blue room is fantastic, everything is great about swimming in a cave.

We were really excited about going to the Blue Room cave so we decided to take the 15.00 o'clock boat (which was told by us on his website and also when we got there). But his wife already yelled at us: 2 person boat no no. When the 'captain' himself arrived he also yelled from his boat: come back tomorrow at 13.00. This was for sure not worth the one hour drive and I will never go there again.

Amazing little spot. Hiked in early morning and there was not a soul in the area. Took maybe 25 minutes to get there but got eaten alive by mosquitoes (so I was quicker than normal). Would likely recommend bug spray in rainy season. Once you get to the top of the rocks it is not immediately clear where to go but continue on down and to the left you will see a small path. The way out has a stub of rebar on the side of the cave mouth to exit.
Very nice spot even in the morning. Lots of sea life and the cave was amazing. Would recommend for sure to those who are competent swimmers.

Yes we are coming in by cruise ship and are trying to decide if we should book excursion for Blue Cave or take taxi to Playa Santa Cruz and use Captain Goodlife. Since his tour is only 90 minutes, we are then taxi to another beach, which might be cost comparable to booking excursion. Any suggestions?? Is there Blue Room excursion you recommend?

DO NOT go to the Captain Goodlife. it is terrible

We are interested in booking the tour through Adrenaline Tours but am curious what other beaches they stop at, in addition to Blue Cave.

There are a couple of other snorkel spots that are awesome spots and not a lot of other tours visiting. Very enjoyable!

Well I booked the Blue room snorkel and boat trip. After looking on a map of Curacao it shows out Adreline Tour is about 22 miles from the Port dock. Can anyone till me how long it takes to get to their location from the port and if Taxi's are available for hire out front. Thanks
Written October 11, 2017
I guess you are coming over by Cruise ship? Usually tour operators collect their guests at the port but you should contact them to confirm this. There are taxis but they can get quiet expensive.

I would so like to take the Blue Room snorkel tour but I do have reservations about my ability. I am a strong swimmer but will be 65 when I visit Curacao in Feb 2018. I have looked at a tide chart to determine when Low tide will be for the day that I am there. Do you think this would be OK for a women/65 to do?

Has anyone taken a good tour that includes the Blue Room?
Written July 12, 2016
I can swim although I get anxious at times (past had near drowning experience) . Not the strongest swimmer but float really well when the panic hits. For those of you who are mediocre swimmers like me, should I pass on this adventure? It does sounds amazing.
