- Jason R.Ashburn, Virginia61 contributionsBeautiful beach, just as good as Abao.Very nice beach. Off the beaten path. Lots of shady trees. About $6 to enter and about $3/chair. Big bar and restaurant to get your drink on. Good choice of foods. Plenty of shade there. Shop for snorkel or scuba gear. Great snorkeling in the area. Pretty fish. Coral. Clean bathroom and showers. Cut artsy lessons for kids if you want. Note: some nudity on the beach, but not a lot. Might freak an American out. LOL. Very nice place to get your beach experience.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 16, 2023
- Ada GLexington, Kentucky208 contributionsLove this beach!Loved this beach! The kids did not want to leave. Absolutely beautiful, great chairs, great sand, amazing restaurant nearby. We went to a lot of beaches this week, and this one was one of my favorites.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 3, 2024
- Michael B36 contributionsSnorkeling and sunbathing in animal companyWonderful beach with soft sand and several rows of sun loungers. As long as it's crowded, the pigs Woody and Willy and their piglets tend to stay in the background. When it gets emptier, it's snack time. Unfortunately, some beachgoers feed them chips with mayonnaise and ketchup and let their parents drink beer. They are trusting and apparently not only like to be photographed, but also stroked.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 2, 2024
- Michelle V39 contributionsWould come back! This was our last stop of the day and we didn't stay because I had a headache and didn't want to pay beach fee, but I would definitely go back when I could spend more time there. The pigs were interesting and I loved the vibe there. You can paint your own souvenirs and the restaurant looked like a very happening place.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 23, 2024

This beach was very beautiful with crystal clear warm water and also has clean bathrooms, showers, lockers, a bar, a restaurant and a little store. It was quite busy on a Saturday afternoon but thankfully it was not packed enough to be annoying and it was still relatively quiet despite all the people. We were able to find open beach chairs and there was never an absurd amount of people in the water at once. I was also able to read my book under the sun, drinking frozen daiquiris without any issues from overly noisy guests. I also liked that the beach bar had local Curacao craft beers on tap with the Montana blonde being particularly refreshing. The beach itself also had a few wild pigs roaming around and it was pretty awesome. Also the entrance fee and chair rental fees were very cheap. The drinks weren’t all too expensive either There were a few things I didn’t love, with one being that this beach has some surprise rocks and pebbles in the ocean area that can scrape up your feet if you aren’t careful. The amounts weren’t absurd but they were definitely there. The roads leading to this beach were also not the greatest to drive on either. We also didn’t have a great experience service-wise at their sit down restaurant. Regardless, that didn’t negate the amazing day we had here!

We decided to pay the very steep cab fare ($60 USD + tip each way) to go to this beach to see the pigs. I knew it wasn’t a guarantee, but meeting pigs at a beach is a bucket list item for me. We arrived & they weren’t anywhere to be seen on the beach. Staff acted annoyed that I even asked. Several other tourists had come just for the pigs & were also disappointed. The security guard (who was practically napping, laying on a motorcycle) told me they would be in the parking lot if they weren’t on the beach. Some reviews had suggested the same. So I shuffled around the parking lot in the intense heat in my bikini shaking my gallon sized ziploc bag of Cheerios hoping to find some pigs, but no luck. I walked every inch of both parking lots twice (around 1pm and around 5pm). No pigs anywhere. We were very bummed, but it’s no one’s fault. I don’t think the pigs are a lie or a scam - other tourists and our cab driver both said they’d seen them in the past - they’re just not a guarantee. One tourist said she saw different pigs that day at Grote Knip beach.
So a word of caution, especially for cruisers: It is going to cost you $130 round trip from the cruise port (not to mention a 35 min drive each way) and you may or may not see pigs. I asked 3 different taxi drivers and $60 each way is the standard rate to get there from the cruise port/moving bridge (before tip).
You will however find a very beautiful beach with chairs, shade, showers, a bar & a little apparel shop plus TONS of bees. I had about 10 of them swarming me as I was trying to order waters at the bar. The bartenders were working with them swarming all around them like it was nothing, which was a a little jarring or maybe impressive. They also swarmed our lounge chairs and there were throngs of them at every trash can. We also saw an eel and some colorful fish, but definitely no pigs. :(

When we were led onto this beach with the word "pigs" - I really didn't know what to expect. As the picture will show, this is a beautiful, pristine beach with white sand, clear blue water, and observation points at different locations within the beach where you can prop yourself up or sit down and watch the tropical fish swim by. Entrance is $5 USD per person and covers the usage of chairs, umbrellas, and pretty much keeps the place in shape.
As for the pigs: they're clean, friendly, and funny! Definitely adds another dimension to the place, and makes it very distinct.

Wonderful beach, great for children (but not as great as Blue Bay). Easy surf, but the first section has the least amount of rocks (but still some rocks on the bottom). Other sections have small and big rocks, covered in a very slippery layer of seaweed. Almost impossible to stand on.
The facilities are very good and clean. The restaurant can get very busy and chaotic, as there is no dedicated order and pickup point. A lot of people order food and keep waiting, making it unclear who has been served and is waiting and who is still waiting to be served. Nonetheless, the restaurant was packed. The food was very good. No ants (as opposed to Cas Abou).
The only downside: despite there being a lot of bins, some people still chuck there litter on the beach.

This is a very nice beach - $3 per person to get in and $3.50 per lounge chair to rent. That is not bad considering on site amenities. Parking lot is close but expect beach to be busy - we arrived at 1 pm and it was packed. Stayed until after 5 pm. Snorkeling was awesome. Only dropped down one notch on rating because it was crowded.

This beach has picturesque Caribbean blue waters and is so calm. The dive shop onsite is fantastic with caring professionals. The dive site is a paradise as it is so close to the shore and has abundant corals and fish schools. This is close to coral estates so you can make a dinner reservation on the korral or karakter restaurants after this beach. The restaurant on site has spring rolls which was hot and tasty with hardly any vegetables inside it.

After visiting a couple of beaches in north Curacao, Mambo Beach and Mood Beach, I give this beach a five star. I love the vibe there as there are signs showing such a care for the nature, friendly staff, a dive center on site, a beach boutique store, and a full functioning restaurant that accepts card payment. The swim was amazing as there were almost no waves and the view of the underneath was crystal clear. There was a floating deck for swimmers to go to and bask in the sun and a pier where many people took selfie photos at. I had one of the most delicious chicken shawarmas wrapped in a delish bread pocket resembling a bao bun.

If you are looking for a great beach to go to when visiting Curacao, Playa PortoMari is it. Did not take a ship excursion, rather we took a cab (same cab driver we had on a prior trip to the island - we saved her business card and called her). The drive was about 30 minutes from the city. Once you get off the main road it feels like you are out in the middle of nowhere until you see the Williwood sign. We were at the beach on a Saturday with mostly local people - didn't see any other cruise towels. If you bring snorkel gear, go to the large rock wall area on the left and swim out a ways. Also try the local beer. Even liked seeing the resident pig (beach is known for this). Would definitely go back to this beach. Had a great time!

Just next to Cas Abou is the stunning beach of Porto Marie. The approach is a single tarmac road with passing places. The car park has plenty of spaces and the observation deck at the side of the car park offers a fantastic view of the beach and surrounding area. There’s a dive center on site, a boutique clothes shop and a bar and restaurant offering a great choice of food and drinks. The sea here is crystal clear and there’s a short wooden pier with access to the water at the end and a floating pontoon.

This was an ok beach. When I think of Caribbean beaches I think of the wind sand and turquoise waters. Upon first glance this beach has those features. However, getting into those waters is a bit treacherous. There are rocks which make it difficult to get in/out of the shore. I'm not sure this is a great place to take your kids.
It is a private beach, so access was $6/person and extra if you wanted a beach chair. MY wife and I wanted to dip and knew the fare, but my parents weren't interested and just hung out around the bar for some drinks. Overall the area is nice, but we spent about 1-2 hours and that was fine for us. We never saw any of the pigs, just plenty of iguanas and birds.

What is the cost of chairs and umbrellas
Written June 4, 2023
I really don’t remember how much we paid, but it wasn’t that bad - you rent a chair per person for the day but there’s just a few umbrellas available. But lots of bushes to find shade if needed.

Assuming cruise line go forward - we're scheduled to be in Curacao around 1/12/22. It is just my husband and I. The shore excursions don't really thrill me, but based on some reviews it states that cabs are crazy expensive and just because they get you somewheres' doesn't mean you can find a cab to get back? Also, if we were to arrive say by 1030am would we most likely get chairs and hopefully some shade? Thank you - not seeing a bunch of current questions and answers.

Does this beach have lockers available to put your belongings in?
Written December 16, 2019
PlayaPortoMari
Willemstad, Curaçao
Yes, there is locker rental at the bar.
The price is Naf. 2,- (Just over $1,-) and a Naf. 8,- Deposit (about $4,50). You can leave the key at the bar so you don't have to take it in the water when you go swimming or snorkeling.
I hope to have answered your question.

We are arriving on the Norwegian Epic Cruise in January. Does anyone know how far away this beach is from the cruise port? Also, what is the best/cheapest way to get there? Have read so many reviews/comments that a rental car is cheaper than a taxi. Where do you rent a car @ the port? We just want a beautiful, relaxing beach with plenty of sun, a comfortable lounge chair & cold cocktails for the day! Please help!

Hi CNikki68,
I agree with the answer of Lisa about getting a taxi as opposed to renting a car since you are only going to be on Curacao for the day.
However, we try to be anything but a tourist trap. Indeed, we are the busiest beach on this side of the island, but that is mainly because we offer more than surrounding beaches regarding food and drinks, service, safety and cleanliness. That is the reason our beach is getting busier every year, but in my opinion this doesn't make us a tourist trap.
January is regarding tourism the busiest month of the year, so most of the beaches you visit that day will probably be quite busy, especially if there are one or more cruise ships in port that day.
I hope you will have a wonderful day on Curacao whatever beach you decide to visit that day!
Greetings,
PortoMari Beach Club B.V.

We are cruising here in December. The ship is only in port for seven hours. Would we be able to go to Playa Porto Marie for three-four hours? We would take a taxi, and I don't want to miss the ship!

Hi,
We are about a 45 minute drive away from the cruise terminal, and there will be taxis waiting at the cruise port which can take you to PortoMari and back to the cruise terminal. We don't have taxis readily available at our beach, so the best thing you can do is make an appointment with the taxi driver who drops you of in the morning to have him pick you up in the afternoon at a designated time. You can always ask the driver for a business card in case you need to contact him.
I hope to have helped you out, if you have any more questions you can always send us an email which can be found on our website.
Greetings,
Team PortoMari
