We took a day trip on a catamaran to Klein Curaçao. Supposed to meet at 7:30, but didn’t leave til after 8, which is understandable. Once we got on the boat, there were about 20 other people on it with us (not including the 2 crew and captain). They briefed us on what was going to happen quickly, and told us that we could sit wherever we wanted. Seating in the back of the boat, on the top deck, inside, or in the front. Naturally, we chose the front. As we were making it out of the inlet/bay, one of the crew came up to talk to us. He told everyone (us, about 6 kids, and a few parents) that as cool as it was at the front, it was likely that you were going to get soaked.

Once we made the turn out of the bay, he was correct. The waves were probably 12-15’ that day, and one by one people went to the back of the boat. We stayed in the front the whole way, though we definitely did get soaked…which wasn’t that big of a deal because it was 90.

Once there, we swam to the beach and walked around the island. Pretty cool old lighthouse that you can climb up, though it is very narrow and if it’s busy, it’s going to be chaotic, so be prepared for that. Took some pictures, then continued walking around. There are two shipwrecks on the island, one a large steel boat that is broken up but washed ashore and is very cool. The other is a much smaller sailboat that has washed up on the beach. We also walked further around the island and found some turtle nexts, that are clearly marked for people to stay away from them.

I was unable to do any snorkeling, but from what I gathered from those that did was that it was amazing. Because the island is uninhabited, it was a nice change of pace from the busy streets of Willemstad.

Excellenttrip with Mermaid tours. We booked this after researching this and had positive results. Booking cost was $100 US pp + $9. (cash) for pickup 6:15 AM and return to our resort by 5:30 PM. They serve breakfast and lunch on the island and offer the best advice. They offer lots of Chaise lounger chairs and plenty of shade plus the use of snorkelling gear. They supply fresh water. We saw lots of fish and some sea turtles. A walk across the island to the shipwreck, past the abandoned lighthouse is easy but bring watershoes to walk. Bring lots of sunscrean and please DO NOT attempt to touch the sea turtles. Also if you are prone to sea sickness make sure to take something as the ride out takes about 1.5-2 hrs into the breeze, = choppy waters. The ride back is usually with the breeze. Enjoy your excursion.

We came to Little Curaçao on a dive boat and swam from boat to shore with our snorkels which allowed us to discover an octopus. Klein is a small island with a small light house and beautiful beach with a span of white sand. There’s no food or drink but I think everyone that comes to the island is part of a tour type boat ride.

The lighthouse appears far away but it’s a short walk.

Let me start by saying that I believe this island trip appeals to specific types of travelers. I'm simply not one of them.
So if you are someone who likes to spend a lot of time in the water snorkeling, looking for stuff to explore and don't care about tanning, picture perfect beaches or unlimited drinks my review might be for you.

Klein Curaçao was recommended as a must-go place for snorkeling in pretty much every list I've seen but compared to the rest of Curaçao, it was very barren. Visibility is so so, the turtles there only come for the food given by the boats and there is hardly anything to see except sand and a fish here and there. There is a bit of interesting reef near the point of the island but it is a long swim with strong current and lots of rocks. I don't recommend it unless you are a strong swimmer with fins.

The tour operator we went with was good and they took great care of us! We opted for one of the smaller ones (Adventure Tours Curaçao) taking a speedboat which cut the travel time in half compared to the others. It can be a rough boat trip so take your meds and have a big breakfast. The guides shared a lot of information about Curaçao, even taking a bit of a detour on the way back to show us more of the island and its history. If I was just reviewing them, this would be a 5 star review!

But yeah, if you are a snorkeling enthusiast who prefers to stay in the shade and doesn't care for unlimited drinks, I recommend skipping Klein Curaçao and take a drive around the island to the remote beaches around Westpunt or Director's Bay.

My husband and I booked a catamaran trip -the boat tour staff was great and the island does have beautiful water BUT a few things we didn’t like :
1. the trip to the island was VERY rough. The staff said it is choppy water every day just some days are worse than others. 90%of the people got sea sick with some actually throwing up and it is and 1.5 HOUR ride. I wish the staff would have warned us before booking the tour.

2. Snorkeling was poor. We saw one turtle while we were on the boat-none while snorkeling. My husband saw 2-3 nice fishes

Most of the other people on the tour said there are nicer snorkeling spots elsewhere.

We took a popular catamaran (don’t want to name them but this applies to all operators as they all take the same path) with two young children aged 3 and 6. We were told that it might be a little rough but not terrible and that lots of people go with kids. The ride was almost two hours of pure hell - you are basically fighting tall waves the whole way. By the end of it, over 90% of the passengers had vomited and everyone was miserable. The crew was great at taking care of everyone but they should have never let us take kids on that trip. The beach was nice once we got there but certainly not worth what we went through. The way back was also rough but not as bad and slightly quicker. I don’t recommend it to anyone, and especially not to families with young children!!!!

this site was great as you were able to snorkel and see sea turtles up close. there is a man there who feeds and calls the turtles who makes the stop hard to handle as he is noisy and disruptive. People need to respect the animals as well and observe and not touch as it is dangerous to the animal. The turtles were a joy to observe. Area very small and crowded.

This island used to be a bird heaven until it was mined for phosphate, reducing the islands bird life to a minimum and now it hosts heavy tourism that disrupt one of the few turtle hatcheries in Curaçao.

There’s a big sign on the island that says this. So when I got there I realised it was a mistake.

I believe that the island should be placed as a natural reserve instead of a tourist hotspot. Also because not many corals left at the beach.

The trip itself is quite tiring, many people felt sick and vomited on the way there, crew were cleaning the vomit from the floor with a hose. When you get there, run to catch a shade because it’s very hot with the white sand.

I finally had a chance to visit Klein Curaçao! We took at catamaran over to the island which is a longer trip but really nice to sail on the open sea. The day was beautiful and didn't start out too hot. When you get to the island the beach is beautiful white sand and the water is a beautiful aquamarine. It was a little murky near the shore and not much to see snorkeling but that quickly changes if you swim out a few minutes. Then you get to see a good variety of fish and my friend saw a turtle (i missed it!). When you first get to the island it is the best time to go see the lighthouse and the shipwreck before it gets too hot. After that is perfect for relaxing in the shade, or a nice swim or snorkel. My biggest advice is that no amount of sunscreen is too much. Be generous!!!! It was a lovely way to spend a day.

Went to Klein Curacao on day trip with Irie Tours (Bounty Adventures). Took about 1.5 hours to reach the island by catamaran. Island features beautiful beaches with white sand, an abandoned lighthouse, and two ship wrecks (well, one ship and one small boat) on the East side of the island. Light house was ~15 minute walk from the beach and shipwrecks were additional ~15. Walk over early in the day as it gets hotter in the afternoons. Island has no permanent human residents but the biggest hermit crab population we have ever encountered. We spent some time snorkeling near the beach. Saw a sea turtle, many fish, and the head of a dead barracuda (sea turtle and fish were helping themselves). No services available on island (seriously, none), so make sure to come with a day tour or bring everything you need for the day.
