Josone Park is one of favourite places in Varadero and we were pleasantly surprised to see it was open as there were rumours it was closed during our trip. We were sad to note that many of the old tall palm trees have been cut down for what reason I can’t say and they make the entrance area off of Avenue 1 almost naked. However the views especially of the pond are worth the visit.
A great place to escape the heat is the small bar at the pond edge which claims to serve the best pina coladas in Varadero. Not sure if they’re the best but they’re the perfect thing to deal with the afternoon heat, especially as like so many other places in town post Covid there is no beer available.
I can attest that they can either be the most expensive pina coladas in town or the cheapest depending on how you pay. Our first visit here this trip we ordered two and after confirming we could pay in CUPs (Cuban Pesos) paid just under 400 CUPs, at official exchange this was about $11.00 Canadian, a fair price. At the rate I managed to get they cost us $5.00 Canadian which is a real deal.
We went back a couple of days later and ordered the same drinks from the same waiter. He even remembered us. I’d accidentally left most of my Pesos in the room but had some Canadian Dollars on me, which he was more than willing to take them, more willing I noted than the Pesos earlier I noticed. Price this time for the same two drinks $16.00 Canadian.
Sadly after that we found other nearby places to enjoy our pina coladas and I never forgot my stash of CUPs again.

Walking through Varadero, a guy as standing at a gate and asked us if we were hungry we said yes were, he showed us the menu and lead us through this remarkable park to the back of the park and there was a restaurant there plus there is a piña colada bar. Both the restaurant was awesome as well as the piña colada bar. The Beatles Bar backs out, onto this park. Don’t miss it if your traveling to Varadero it’s worth the visit.

We attended Bar Varadero 1920
We had a few drinks and there was some entertainment (singer)
Before we entered, I asked the method of payment. He said no credit card but pesis, Canadian or US dollars.
The bill came back at 1380 pesos which was a fair price but was asking $27 canadian.
So his exchange rate was 50 pesos for $1. Anywhere on the street they will exchange at 100 pesos for $1 Canadian.
So I left the bar and walked on the street and exchange at 100 /1$.
Beware of this , if you're short of pesos.

I went to this park on a Monday and a Wednesday. We saw online open 24 hours but when we went to find an entrance we opened a door and the workers came over and said closed. Well we couldn’t under them except they said No. There was other people trying to get in. There should be signs to let people know.

This park was close to our apartment and we fancied a stroll. It's quite large with a very green boating lake at its centre with a hopeful cormorant and duck lurking for any fish that might be present. It's got a disused crazy golf course and a tucked away free pool that looked clean enough. Lots of building renovation going on at the moment, but pleasant enough.

Beautiful walk in the park , took many pictures. We sat for a while at a small cafe and had cappuccinos and watched a photo shoot of a one year old boys' celebration day. Also we found some nice restaurants in the park. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant the following evening. Very good food and wine. Excellent!

Josone Park was a part of Varadero classic car ride tour. We had a great time at the park, although we did not spend a lot of time there. Our guide drove the car inside the park and we stoped for a quick photoshooting. It was very romantic! We loved it!

The park is an interesting green space. Located in the middle of town. I enjoyed walking the 4 square blocks of park with a small lake in the middle. Daytime or nighttime. There are several restaraunts in the park. All are ok. I have not tried them all . Perhaps you will?

We stopped in for a drink at Bar el Lago, and had the best mojito made from Alberto. He makes one hell of a drink, and "if you don't like it, you don't pay" is his motto... Very affordable drinks, and $2 beers for the road :) See you again someday, Alberto!!
