I was ripped off here.
I bought a bottle of Black Tears Cuban rum here. The price on the shelf was around $15 USD (I don't remember the exact amount, but in that vicinity). Not a top shelf rum.
When I got back to Canada I discovered that I had been charged $43.60 USD on my debit card. Partly my own fault for not paying attention I suppose, but still.
It's not a bad shop to peek into otherwise and you can sample a few of the rums. Just pay attention if you make a purchase.

Yes it may seem slightly more expensive, but here you get free samples, and a full education on Rum. They also have a knowledgeable staff that review everything with you and the purchase you are making is correct. They don't just push the high end stuff, they make appropriate recommendations. Always check with these guys first. Great Location!

Good part of tour informative tasted plenty of rum and prices for rum and cigars good, don't buy in Havan it's a rip off. Also went to coffee shop and saw cigars been hand rolled. Round the sugar cane factory. Lunch was typical chicken beans rice.

When we where in Cuba two years ago, this place was closed due to renovations, and only had a “satellite” location available. So it was definitely on our list to check out this time.
Very impressed with their layout and collection of rums to purchase. There are many bottles you can sample before buying.
If you are unsure of what to bring back home, this is a place you will need to visit.

if you have a couple of hrs to spend and you still haven't bought a bottle of cuban rum, it is the right time.
the store is airconditioned which helps a lot.
personnel in the store will show you and tell you all you want to know about how Cuban Rum is made, more important they will let you taste some of the most delicate flavors.
great value if you intend to buy rum...

If you love rum and aren't planning to go into Havana you'll want to put this on your places to visit. All kinds of rum here and lots from other countries as well. Plus they have Cuban coffee for sale here which is one of the well kept secrets.

Anything purchased "Anywhere at the Hotel or otherwise" must NOW have an "invoice" to show immigration or items will be seized. (Proof of taxes paid to government)
Rum seized Immigration officer walked me to store with bottle and said I can purchase it again ....

We recently bought a bottle of liqueur and a bottle of rum from Casa del Ron. We asked for a receipt, which they refused to give saying that we didn't need one to bring back alcohol on flights. Soon after, I found the exact same bottle of liqueur at our Resort gift shop for 3.10pesos instead of the 10pesos that we paid--- Casa del Ron charged us 3X more!!. We also found the bottle of rum for 4pesos less at the gift shop as well. Now I see why they refused to give us a receipt. Beware: they should NEVER refuse to give you a receipt if you ask for one.
Go to Plaza America. they definitely have the best prices across the board for all rum/vodka/liqueur.
Casa del Ron is even more expensive than duty free airport rums. it's not worth going to--- they don't teach you about rum, they just give some samples before charging ridiculous prices.

Great atmosphere in the house of rum. We loved that we were able to sample many different rums and liquors. We bought several bottles, having been assured that we would not find these anywhere else, that only the House of Rum had licenses to sell these rums. However, we later saw the same varieties in the grocery stores for $5-7 CUC cheaper than we paid (about half the price!) Very disappointed.

I dropped into the House of Rum a few days ago. Beautiful wood and stained glass. The bar does serve....they were providing samples of 5 rums - of which you can find a favorite and able to purchase a bottle to take home.

I can't remember the price but want to say it was $10 Cuban Pesos.
It is open to the public. We just walked up to the place and maybe waited 10 minutes for the tour. They do have quite a bit of rum for sale but no food. Eat before you go if you are going to sample the rums.

I bought Havana Rum glasses there. The tall, skinny ones you see in the restaurants. They had several things in the case at the register (coasters, gift sets etc).

Hi There,
sounds good! we'll be in veradero next month but unsure whether to do the rum and tobacco tour in Havana or in Varadero
How did you go about booking your tours veradero?
Written March 13, 2018
We took the excursion in Veradero from our hotel. It was the rum, sugar cane museum and cigar tour. Highly recommend this - it was very educational and gave you lots of background and history. There was also another small museum on the stop that had little bits of all kinds of interesting things. This excursion also included lunch. The sugar cane museum gave us each 2 700ml bottles of rum and included a ride on a steam train.

ciao Salvo,
Grazie
Stefano
