the final battle of the Cuban-Spanish war was at this hill, and many of the original trenches and other fortifications have been preserved, It is free to enter and worth a visit if the 19th century history of Cuba is of interest to you.

San Juan Hill, putatively where Teddy Roosevelt led the Rough Riders to victory over the Spanish, is a pretty small hill. It's also NOT where TR led the RR, but an adjacent hill. Nevertheless, there are interesting monuments to U.S., Cuban, and Spanish troops, as well as preserved trenches from the war. Definitely worth the drive and a half hour or so.…

San Juan Hill? If you love history and the Spanish-American War is of interest, you gotta go here. Teddy Roosevelt, Rough riders, etc. Dis is da place. :-}

This is an historic site but not scintillating. We learned that the Cubans see the war not just as the Spanish-American War but at the Spanish-Cuban-American war. Indeed it did involve Cuba. Sounds like some White House spin on the name we have called this war for so long.
