As some one said: If you did not see Casa de las Tradiciones, you did not see Santiago de Cuba.
Not fare from the center of the city, in pretty shabby neighborhood, If you like music, friendly atmosphere, you will find this beautiful, authentic place.
Starts at 9 PM. Runs till midnight. Cheap domestic drinks and crazy, crazy atmosphere.
Taxi can drive you there, but you will have to walk to the center at midnight. Not a big deal.
I can't wait to go again!

Do not miss this place! Total heaven for music lovers. Small and intimate with different live bands starting at about 21:00. The place is a little out of the centre, but it makes for a very atmospheric walk there and back (even though the back- streets are dark and have lots of people hanging around they are completely safe: we walked to the venue and back on 3 consecutive nights and felt no threat whatsoever - quite the opposite- we loved It!). You have to pay 2 CUC to get in but it's really worth it, with good drinks service from friendly staff. The atmosphere was so wonderful with a good mixture of a few tourists and plenty of locals. If you want to dance, just do it! There are local male and female dancers to accompany you if you are by yourself or your partner is shy! This place was a highlight of our tour.

After discovering this unspoiled gem during a walk in the charming barrio of El Tivoli, we were here almost every evening of our stay in Santiago de Cuba.

The bands and dancers were always amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed and genuine.

Absolutely recommended. If you have the chance, stop by for a drink or some simple food with Cuban workers during the afternoon, you won't be disappointed.

Very authentic spot. It's not only made for tourists, but also for Cubans. There are supposed to be small shows of traditional son by either a young or an elder professional couple, which are both very good. The music is mostly the same on all weekdays, eg. Mondays is Perlas del Son, a band mostly composed with women (really good, heard them twice). Of course, tourists finance the spot (we pay entrance (2 CUC), drinks, pay the band with tip (we usually gave 3 CUC for us as a couple), but prices are reasonable. Try the lemonade for 1.50 CUC. It is awesome for refreshment after dancing. The live music starts after 9 pm (earliest spot in Santiago) and there is some space for dancing. We loved it.

A place where you can feel the real Carribean atmosphere: dance, music and nice people. Despite the terrible toilet and the long waiting for the coctails, this is THE place :)

Although there are three rooms downstairs , they are wide open to each other . The front room is for the music & dancing , the side room for overspill & the back room for the locals who just want a drink .
We got there at 8.30pm , the music started half an hour later and we left around 11pm .
The music , dancing & atmosphere was brilliant & a great finish to our few days in Santiago . One of the guide book recommendations that really did exceed expectations .

A local told us about this traditional Cuban music/dancing venue. Easy to walk there from the central plaza. We came with a couple from the UK we met, and everyone had a fantastic time! She is a WONDERFUL salsa dancer. After she danced with her significant other, a Cuban was in 7th heaven as her next dance partner. Fantastic, live Cuban music. Mostly with locals in attendance. They know where to go!

Very hard to find as lonely planet as quite misleading. . . At the top of the Spanish steps there are two roads to the right, take the one further away from the steps and walk for 5 mins.

It was like stumbling into a private gathering, the music was such quality and mostly Cubans there.

Not giving 5 stars as visit slightly spoils by Cuban lady attaching herself to my husband in a bid for his dosh- we couldn't get rid of her! I am going to learn some more Spanish phrases for next time eg please can you leave us alone now!!!

Until you see it, you won't believe it. A first floor apartment in a rundown suburb has been converted into one of the best (and certainly the most interesting) music venues in Santiago. You pay 2 CUCs entrance before you climb the stairs and drinks are reasonable. There's a different band every night, a small crowded dance floor and a friendly ambience with locals and tourists enjoying each other's company.
