A warning up front; A very long tiring day but well worth it. We left our hotel in the Playa Pesqueero area at 07:30 in the morning headed for Santiago de Cuba. Its a 3 hour drive but watching the scenery roll by and listening to our guide Roxanne, who is very passionate and knowledgeable about Cuban history, we were... More

If you don't do stairs or climb hills, you should probably skip this castle. If climbing is not a problem, the views from the top of the castle are incredible, go to the top and climb down to the water, it is not hard to imagine what it must have been like living here in the 17th century.

Well kept and you get a wonderful view from the walls. Just watch with your camera as you can't take photos without buying a permit (not very dear) and they can take your camera off you. Got ours back at the end no trouble

A very interesting and formidable guided visit of what is the best example of a historical landmark in Cuba and the rest of America. Walk the sinuous alleys, touch the ancient stone and burn your hand while touching the iron Spanish cannons, then step on the edge of the cliff and enjoy the swift tropical breeze of a Caribbean bay...... We went here for an evening trip to see the sunset ceremony when the flag is lowered and the cannon is fired. The fort itself is worth seeing with a small museum inside and fabulous views outside. Well worth a visit

A very well preserved piece of history. Hard to beleive this was all built without the use modern day machinery ..... but by people's blood, sweat and I'm sure tears.

Went there on a beautiful, sunny day with an excellent view. Building is an outstanding example of early spanish craftmanship. Worth a visit.

I'm not sure I would spend ½ a day there but an hour or 2 certainly. The site is large if you include the open area outside. The castle inside is bigger than it looked and has lots of nooks and crannies with different views over the mouth of the harbour and the sea from each. Even I, not the... More

Unfortunately our view of the castle was marred by the weather and lack of sunset. However, an interesting display on piracy (in spanish) . Castle itself is worth seeing but put your camera inside your bag until you are passed the guides or you pay a fee.
