El Morro is an old fort built at the mouth of Santiago Bay. Here you have the opportunity to tour the entire structure as you walk around freely at your own pace. The fort has information about daily life, pirates, the Spanish-American War (or War of Cuban Independence), and even about prisoners who stayed there. Take a walk down to... More

The castle has exhibitions in various of its countless rooms and is built over several levels. It offers good views of Santiago's bay and harbour.

Very much enjoyed the sunset ceremony with the lowering of the flag and a cannon firing. The sunset was spectacular. A beautiful view at any time of the day. For photographers, I suggest going in the morning, as the sunset prevents a decent vista image because of the backlighting.

The castle has been kept in good conditions (as it can be for such an old building) and the views form there are absolutely stunning! The weather was gorgeous when I went which helped me to get amazing pictures.

The view is breathtaking and the castle itself is impressive in terms of scale, history, preservation, and structure. Wear your walking shoes as there are many steps that wind in and out of the castle, and make sure to bring a hat and sunscreen to avoid getting burnt from the Carribean sun.

The ideal spot to take pictures of the lovely bay of Santiago.Tell the stories of notorious pirates to your kids in the museum. Don't forget to pose at the balcony of the romantic loggia where señoras were waiting for the return of their heroes! A truly merited UNESCO World Heritage spot!

We hired a taxi for this trip. Spectacular setting. Disappointed that one section of the castle was closed. It should have had a sign indicating the reason. My spouse is a geocacher, so finding the object was a bonus!

Part of the Thomas cook package from Guardalavaca, this was for me the highlight of the trip. Perched high above the entrance to Santiago Bay the castle gives panoramic views of the city and surrounding Sierra Maestra mountains. There is a small museum inside and a pirate history displays, plus dungeons a chapel with a stunning small choir and gift... More

Not a lot of note inside the fort and all displays are in Spanish only. Worth a visit purely for the views over The Caribbean and towards the City. you have to pay to photos inside the fort, put your camera in your pocket and take photos from the tops instead of inside and save 5 CUC as there isn't... When we visited the fort, there was an acapella group (4 women) singing in the chapel. The acoustics were just right for their voices and it was a lovely addition to our tour. The chapel can fit only a few visitors, but the group can be heard throughout the fort.
