This fortress was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997 ~ cited as the best preserved and most complete example of Spanish-American military architecture. Locally it is known as El Morro...and was constructed on a series of terraces...with four main levels and three large ramparts to house the artillery. Our guide told us that the supplies would be... I loved exploring this fort and as a photographer, I kept finding beautiful angles to take a shot followed by even more beautiful ones! There are a lot of stairs to climb, but well worth it. A beautiful restaurant nearby has a restroom, as there is none here and on the walk from the bus to this fort we found... More

This castle was planned in the late 16th century but took more than 200 years to be finally completed. It is worth a trip for its architecture, dominating position (and views) as well as its (at least partially infamous) history. A return trip from the city and back by taxi should not cost more than 20 CUC and the admission... More

An interesting fort overlooking the entrance to the harbour. Good exhibits, but all in Spanish. Quite a long way from town

A colonial castle where Spanish military architecture can be touched by just reaching out your hand. A place that's plenty of history and legend at the same time. Amazing views can be captured at some of its terraces. Past and present walk hand in hand.

The castle has been very well restored and is certainly worth a visit. You can very easily see why it was built in exactly this place. Inside are some nice exhibits (in Spanish) about the pirates that roamed these waters.

This is an enjoyable place to visit. It has been renovated and the views from different areas of San Petro de la Roca del Morro Castle are wonderful. There was a restaurant outside the Castle that we stopped and had a drink to cool off. There are Vendors on either side of the walk way as you walk toward Morro... More

Loved exploring here, you can go everywhere. There are beautiful views to be seen.My only regret is that I did not have long enough to walk around this fully. Maybe one day they will have a tourist refreshment place where you can sit back and savour the surroundings.

We took the public passenger truck there and back. We got on at the stop marked in the LP on Avenida de los Libertadores as we'd spent the morning at the Moncada museum. It cost 1CUC each on the way there (I was offering CUP but he wouldn't budge), 2CUP each for return trip. We were dropped off near restaurant... More
