Originally constructed in 1526 the cathedral has been destroyed by earthquake on four occasions, the last occasion being in 1932. It is architecturally imposing with two marble statues in the front and is also quite beautiful inside.

One of the most beautiful cathedrals in Cuba, an open! It is closed on Mondays (I think), but open until quite late in the evenings. Definitely worth to visit.

This is a very beautiful church inside and outside. The interior is very elegant. You can have a beautiful view of the park on the upper level.

In the center of Santiago, this Cathedral is the center-peace of this beautiful area. You will feel like the time has stopped when you are inside. The architecture, the peacefulness and the history are unbelievable.

It is a nice big church from its terrace there is a nice view to the Cespedes park. You can even climb the tower of the church from where you can see the whole city.
You can visit the church free of charge but you have to pay if you want to climb the tower.

We took a day tour of Santiago City and visited the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumptition on feb. 24,2019. It is a beautiful Cathedral with many statues and saints. Remove your hat, no food and keep quiet for respect, pictures all right to take. It's in the centre of Santiago, many old streets, lots of people, emagine being here in July or August when it's 40 to 42 % in temperature, very hot. Old Spanish style buildings and some grand homes of the rich.Great to visit and take in the scenery ,the people, school children, market, stores.

We were on a cruise with Viking and our tour included a quick stop. My 82 year old mom uses a walker but was able to climb the steps to see the beautiful, restored interior. Since you are up high, it provides a beautiful view of the city. We did not have time to climb up the tower. If you’re in the area, it is definitely worth seeing.

Despite circumnavigating it twice it refused to open! The whole of the cruise ship was keen to climb the hill from the port to have a look. Unfortunately God was out for lunch.
