The church is near a small square where are some sellers with local products. The church itself is a typical one in Cuba, with the statue of Padre Olallo at the entrance.

Our guidebook described this plaza as "Camaguey's most picturesque and beautifully preserved corner." We tried to view it with that perspective in mind. Couldn't do it. We didn't go in the church. Perhaps that's more interesting.

It is was it is, and that is part of its charm. It is the real thing: the original part of the city. Worth a visit.

It looked closed when we visited so we only saw the church's outside. We had a drink outside the bar/restaurant at the corner of Plaza San Juan de Dios. May be because it was early in the afternoon but the square had a lazy feel...More

After Havana and Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey is the largest and most populated city in the main island. I really like it. Even Santiago, considered the second one doesn’t have the same air of a big metropolis and it impressed me during my visit in...More
