Foiunded in 1898 by the famous the Dr Taquechel and run by his children and grandchildren. A renowned pharmacy and business that was admired all over Cuba for its quality and its devoted family. Seized by the Castro Government in 1960 it emains today as a lovely museum and remembrance of another era. Lovely porcelain medicine jars from France and mahogany wood and chandeliers. A must see in Old Havana. Hotel Ambos Mundos next door was where Ernest Hemingway wrote for For Whom the Bell Tolls. The pharmacy is a short walk from the center of Old Havana as well as the Havana Cathedral and Bodeguita del Medio.

So much art deco in it! The lovers of the style should pay a visit! I think it is for free because it operates as a pharmacy too.

Stumbled on this place. It is beautiful and fascinating. Excellent for an historical overview of medicine and treatment in Cuba and also of the mercantile trade around these things. The architecture is beautiful and the stained glass is mesmerizing. Half and hour for a decent read through - more if you really want to pay attention to the information provided.

The interior and displays are wonderful.
Part of the pharmacy is still used for dispensing medicines to the locals.

Walk down Obispo and you cant miss this place. A working pharmacy whith dark wood shelves packed with porcelain medicine jars. An interesting look back in time but I got the impression that it has been rebuilt and everything was new but made to look old.

The best preserved pharmacy museum in the world according to our guide.
Definitely worth the drive. Endless examples of pharmaceutical products beautifully preserved in their original packaging. Original 'brewing vats' on display each with their own small ovens the stew the brew.
This museum also includes a cut glass area where you may purchase small items.
There is a surcharge for pictures - 5 pesos. We opted out.

It's nice to see something a little bit different in wonderful Old Havana. As this pharmac is on popular Obispo, it's well and truly on the tourist trail, but worth a visit. I bought a sponge here (for about 10 times the price I could buy them in the market), but every time I use it I think of Old Havana and that Taquechel Parmancy. Pardon the pun, but it's a great way to 'soak up' Old Havana atmosphere...

We were walking down the street and came across this. A lovely homage to the way things used to be. The display is great and the staff very accommodating.

Worth stopping off to see an old fashioned pharmacy with all the jars on the shelves as you walk down from El Floridita.
