The live music started late, after 1230 AM. Cover charge of $15 pp is a lot for Cuba. No drinks are included in the charge. The waiter returned local 10 pesos (worth a few cents) instead of $10 for change to a friend of mine.

Casa de la Musica is a nice place to hear great live music. But depending on your viewpoint, the large number of prostitutes don't make for a family night out. You probably wouldn't want to take a date either. Otherwise, it's a good time.

First time i got there was on my second day in Havana. Led by a cute boy from Obispo street i got in one moment from the hot tropical afternoon to a terrific salsa night. I don't remember much from my first evening there, only that the music was great. If you CAN dance it's definetly a place for you. Actually it's a live concert lounge with a dancefloor infront of the stage and tables in cabaret style. All styles of cuban music is performed there, from rap to classic salsa. There's two shows a day every day. First show start about 16.00 and mostly visited by locals, tickets are much cheaper but the music is same good as at night show. Night show starts about 22.00 and entrance is 25$. Mostly crowded by escort girls looking for rich tourists.
Location: Theatro America, Av. de Italia.

Arrived into sea of jinoteros advising the club was not open yet. Ignored that and found the cafe bar which was small but interesting. I should have read the reviews as the band showed up late and had not played by 1230a, when I left. If you are a night owl, the auditorium is huge and interesting. The regular beer and drink prices were reasonable.

Seems to be a lot of confusion in some of these reviews, so some advice if you want to get the best out of it:
1. Some of the reviews are talking about the Case de la Musica in Habana Central, this is the Casa de la Musica in Miramar, which is by far the better one with the best performers/top salsa/son/reggaeton groups.
2. Know when to go: The matinee (be there at around 1800) is the time to go. The Cubans who come to dance and enjoy the music in general come then, and the atmosphere will be very different from that at night. None of my Cuban friends go there in the evening, that is the time for hitting the night clubs instead, where the concerts at the Rio Club, Cecilia. Los Gardenias etc start around 01-02 in the morning. The matinee concert usually finishes about 21-2130 which is a good time to go out for dinner and relax for a couple of hours if you are heading out to the clubs later on.
3. Know who is performing. Ask the Cubans or phone the place to find out who is playing. If it is someone famous, of course you should pick that evening, instead of turning up on any random night. Also it depends what music you prefer, I have heard Micha there forinstance, one of Cubas best Cubaton/Reggaeton artist, but if you expected Son, you probably would have been dissapointed.

Hope this was helpful for some. Do not miss it! Enjoy!

Let me start with some key tips for you readers -

1. Go to the earlier performance at 5 as it is cheaper and filled with locals that just want to dance and have fun. This leads to an amazing atmosphere and helps you avoid the singles looking to "mingle" that you will inevitably find at the later performances.

2. Although it opens at 5 the live band won't be in until 7/ 730 so get yourself there around 6ish and soak up some of the pre party atmosphere. The only reason I have scored this a 4 and not a 5 is that myself and my wife got there bang on 5 as we had a dinner reservation at another restaurant at 8 and so when the band didn't come on until 730 we were a little disappointed.

And on to the review. The drinks are cheap, entry was $10 CUC and the atmosphere was awesome. It was slow to fill up but within an hour it was packed with locals all dancing with one another which was great to see. So many happy people with some incredible moves! I Daren't even attempt to show off any of my English boy moves for the want of not embarrassing myself in front of the dance gods! The venue is full of tables and chairs so you will be able to sit if you haven't already been dragged up to dance by a local. All the Cubans were extremely friendly and just wanted to ensure that you are having fun!

The bands are different each night so don't expect this to be Buena vista social esque music..it just depends who's on that night.

If you're in Havana then this place is definitely worth a visit...

We arrived very late, and the show was well underway. No queues when we arrived, but friends had warned us that queues were possible.
The first thing that struck me, was the sheer numbers of prostitutes. Almost more than patrons.
The performers in the show were great. A solo artist, a troupe of acrobats, salsa dancers, and a band. Really, the cover charge was worth it.
We didn't pay for a bottle of rum in order to sit at a table, but fortunately friends were already there so we sat with them.
The prostitutes were very in your face with the men, regardless of whether they were sitting with their wives!!!!
I recommend coming here, but go other places first in the evening, and come here last to top off your night.
No toilet seats, par for the course in Cuba, and no toilet paper. Always carry tissues with you!!!!!!!!

We had a really bad experience at this place...
First at all expensive, the relation quality/price it's horrible.
4 cuc the cheapest drink, 15 cuc cover.
Food is cheap but you get what you pay for.
Poor quality of the drinks.
Music i think really depends the luck and music taste.
Been there on 13th August and the group that played was absolutely the worst we heard in Cuba.
The sound system also has poor quality.
But the worst thing is the MAFIA GUYS OUTSIDE.
They are dangerous, aggressive and force you to pay the taxi they decide...
If you refuse you get surrendered by at least 5 of them.
Really felt unsafe going there with my wife and my best friends wife.
I will never go back to that place.

I went there with my husband as we were advised it was one of the places to visit. The music is nice but you soon notice a lot of very (very!!) young girls with very short dresses which are clearly there to make money if you know what I mean.

Casa de La Musica is great for live shows.

It's somewhat pricey [$15 CUC] such that locals can't really afford it - inside is mostly tourists with a few well to do Cubans.

Shows are good - and there's an early show - which allows you to start the evening early and go out on the town later for an extra fun night. There's also a late show if you prefer. I got to see Elito Reve. There's not much of a dance floor as it's lots of tables and chairs in front of the stage - but you can dance in the aisles.

The location is a little out of the way - quite far from Old Havana - this spot in Miramar - there are a few good restaurants in the neighborhood and it's not far from Fabrica de Artes - a must see place.

I was brought to Casa De La Musica by my local tour guide who took me to all the best nightlife and Salsa spots in Havana - and also provided Salsa lessons - had a great time overall as it's always best to discover a city with the help of a local.

Out front there is always a group of local cuban's who are available to provide convenient services to any tourist who walks out of the place - money changers, internet cards, taxi, or other services are all available outside of this night spot.

PM me for details on my local tour guide if interested - she knows the city, food, nightlife and Salsa spots quite well.
