I was very tired at this point in the itinerary so waited for my friends in the Museums coffee shop on the ground floor. The attendant made me an excellent capucchno. I also visited the gift shop which had a good selection of art books and art prints, as well as Videos/DVD's on Cuba and its history.

We were walking by this building and noticed a ballet was scheduled that evening. We able to purchase 2 box seats at $30 CUC pp. Interior was stunning, orchestra was spectacular and really enjoyed the performance. You can pay for a tour to interior but if possible take in the ballet if possible.

The Museu Nacional de Belas Artes de Cuba houses the Bellas Artes' 'Colección de Arte Cubano' that showcases Cuban art. Displayed in chronological order, the collection begins on the third floor.
The collection provides a great education on the wide variety of Cuban Art. I saw work from famous Cuban artists I had never heard of and saw pieces I don't ever recall viewing in art books before. The exhibition was startling and helped me to better understand Cuba's history and its people through artistic responses to Cuba's historical circumstances.
Artists work I particularly enjoyed included: Jose Angel Vincench, Roberto Diago, Victor Patricio Landaluze and Wifredo Lam.
If you love art I'm sure you'll find the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes de Cuba well worth a visit. Make sure you leave yourself enjoy time to view this very engaging collection!

The impressive collection of the Cuban arts just next quarter from my hotel. It was really worthwhile to visit the museum. It seems that Cuba is full of artists. The collection is on two floors, but it was impossible to properly get acquianted with all works.
On the ground level there is a cafe where you could enjoys a nice glass of local specialty guave juice.

This is worth the price of admission. No great International art but local & some of it very inventive & innovative. We enjoyed the section which be seemed to be taking the you know what out of fidel by placing him in adverts like the Marlborough man and apples

My title sums it up really. We spent an hour here max. Not really our cup of tea, although the building itself is interesting in design. The top floor held some moderately interesting paintings about reacism and the sugar cane industry. OK for 5 CUC

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Museum of Fine Arts) is very fascinating art museum located in two separate buildings. Its main goals are to restore, preserve, and promote works belonging to the heritage of Cuba. The Bellas Artes is arguably the finest art gallery in the Caribbean. The Arte Cubano building contains the most comprehensive collection of Cuban art in the world. The Arte Universal section is laid out in a grand eclectic palace overlooking Parque Central.

The Asturian Center is focused in Cuban Art. It exhibits a great variety of works in chronological order. As a whole they host one of the largest collections of paintings and sculptures in all of Latin America. If you dont have much time it is recommended to visit the Asturian Center. Closed on Mondays. CUC$8 for entrance fee.

My main reason to visit Havana, Cuba was to discover and document Cuban street art, graffiti and wall murals. After visiting smaller private galleries and artist's studios, I decided to check out the National Museum of Fine Arts. I was not prepared for the wonderful Cuban Art that awaited me. Most people are aware of important European and North American artists, but Cuban artists remain somewhat of a shrouded mystery to many. I paid for viewing only this site and it took most of limited Sunday hours they were open. There were many artists I would have liked to purchase post card reproductions of their work, but sadly not much was available in the gift shop. However, I would strongly recommend obtaining a copy of their 2013 Gallery Catalogue. At 50 pesos it is well worth the cost. Spotlighting a sample of every artist exhibited, it makes for a great starting point for deeper research. For art patrons wishing to really take their time soaking up the ambiance of this building and collection, I recommend visiting a day when the hours are extended.

Wonderful Cuban museum that houses an outstanding collection of masterpieces from artists I never knew existed. There’s an open feel to this museum a bit like the art museum of Chicago, although the open corridor is replaced by a long and endlessly winding wheelchair ramp that leads between the three floors. For only 5 CUCs, we didn’t hesitate to go on our last day in Havana even though we had less than an hour to visit. While we certainly could have spent much more time appreciating the displays, the time spent wasn’t wasted by any means.

Allow a good two hours, and make sure to see the Cuban section. There’s another museum dedicated to foreign art which might be good, too, but here’s your opportunity to see the work of those from within the country.
