About
La Casa del Son was created with the idea of having a space in the heart of Old Havana where the foreign visitors have the chance to learn, enjoy and improve their skills about our Cuban traditional dances like Danzon, son, cha-cha-cha, rumba, salsa, casino rueda and folklore. A colonial house from 1715 that has been recently restored and refurbished where we want our students to experience an atmosphere of art, music and dance.

Wish we had done more than 1 hour...
Jan 2020
We are a couple with 2 left feet so we booked a private class. We each had an instructor which threw me as I thought we would learn to salsa together.

We were taught very basic steps, laughed a lot and finally at the last moment took a few steps together.

It was weird and uncomfortable and fun!

Would recommend!

Always my destination in Havana
Feb 2020
I love going there for Salsa lessons whenever I'm in Havana. Adrian 2, not #1 is my instructor. He's my muse and inspiration to practice. I like the atmosphere of the school, and it's in a good location of Old Havana.

My experience with La Casa del Son started off badly.
I had to wait a long time in the hallway to sign up for a class. The receptionist didn't even acknowledge me and say, "I am busy with another customer right now, can you wait?"
I took a class, but the instructor just wanted it to stay at the beginner level as that is probably what they are used to teaching. I didn't learn anything. I already know the basic steps. The instructor did grant my request when I wanted to change rooms. She found a quieter one.
I was staying across the street from the studio. One night they had a dance party and blasted music until late. That's fine, but they wouldn't let anyone in except themselves. It was for instructors and their friends only.
When I was waiting for a class there was wi-fi. I asked for the password but was told it was for the instructors only. There were people smoking in the cafe area. There is plenty of air coming through, but still it's a dance studio. It is Cuba, so this is normal, but I felt uncomfortable. I had to switch tables a couple times to get away from the smoke.
There is no air conditioning. They only have fans.

Superb dance instructor!

I have been dancing salsa for 5 years and had Amed teach me new moves and how to follow them better. He was exceptional in recognizing my level and teaching to it, challenging me but not overwhelming me--exactly what I needed. His English is also excellent. He is very kind and patient and appears empathetic and in tune with his students. If I return, I will certainly ask for him again. I have had 7 Cuban salsa teachers and he is right up there at the top.

A dream come true
Feb 2020
A group of us enrolled in a dance boot camp holiday and I am so happy that we did!
We had such a great time dancing with these professionals. I felt like I had known them for years. Lots of laughing and so much dancing. They offer all levels and will make you feel very comfortable. My partner Doney is the guy you want to ask for.
I cant wait to go back!

My two left feet

Well we laughed and laughed some more, what a fantastic first experience of Salsa. I don’t dance, I mean I’m 20years of marriage I’ve danced a couple of time with my wife. So salsa lessons was just brilliant fun, both our instructors were very patient and laughed along with us. Diame must of had saw toes after an hour with me. It was so good we went back for a second lesson early next morning before we left Havana. My only regret is we should of gone on our first day, then we could of had four lessons, this is a must whilst in Havana.

A good lesson
Feb 2019
This was the smartest looking of the four dance schools I visited on a tour of Cuba. This one is very central in the tourist section. My one-to-one lesson corrected a few habits I'd acquired in a few big class lessons in the UK. The teacher was really helpful and patient as we repeated things over and over.

I'd booked this a bit earlier in the day and paid a deposit at the time which was fine.

Fun is fun but if I were coming to Havana to seriously learn to dance, I'd aim to have one or two sessions a day plus out-of-lesson practice to consolidate the lesson content. Time being short I would go for one-to-ones. La Casa del Son would be a fine place to do that if you found a teacher as competent as the woman who taught me.

Here you can feel at home no matter who you are, no matter what kind of dance you desire to dance..I had, salsa lessons with the patient and sweet Toqui and reggaton dance with cool and lovely Yanai -it`s possible to ask for what you love to learn. My kid had dance lessons with Yanai as well and he learned so quickly! We had drum lessons - oh my, I love this place..coming back for the 3. time..The teachers here are so pro, and the atmosphere so warm and welcoming. Actually I don't want to recommend it..just wanna keep it my own little dance fan secret
