- Wei-Jen Y12 contributionsVery cool homage to Gaudi - must stop by to see!Such a cool little homage to Gaudi! ~20-30 minutes west of Havana - must come and check out the amazing tiles and artwork all around this area. You can also go into little shops where folks are painting or making souvenirs. Highly recommended trip - won’t take more than 1 hour to see most of everything. There may be a stand on the corner you can get some delicious churros with chocolate!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 3, 2023
- gapyeargirlUnited Kingdom177 contributionsGreat to see whilst in HavanaVisited here during our stay in Havana. Took a taxi from Parque central ($50 return, taxi waited whilst we went in for an hour). Taxi was around 20-30 mins each way. 100 CUP entry per person. Very cool to see, amazing work! And neighbouring homes also replicated his work. Makes it a very vibrant neighbourhood. Worth the journey to see. Can purchase some art in the shop or from neighbours outside.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 10, 2024
- Mary TLong Beach, California97 contributionsWorth the little driveOff the beaten path, so it might cost you $50-60 USD to get there and back from ole Havana but worth it. Plan on spending about an hour. You can explore the neighborhood which is also decorated with Fusterlandia 'stuff'. A shop is open and there is a bathroom. On the drive over you'll likely go through Embassy row.Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 22, 2024
- Maryann LFair Oaks, California1,327 contributionsWOW! This is a MUST SEE.Our tour group of 10 visited this unusual artwork. My husband and I had been here 9 years ago and actually met the artist, Jose Fuster. He was cleaning the swimming pool. About 4 decades ago he began creating mosaics in his home and the surrounding neighborhood. The mosaics are bright, colorful and most are quite large. There is much to see that will make you smile. It is a most unusual display of artistic design. There is a small fee to enter the house but walking the area is just as interesting.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 16, 2024
- Drey98357 contributionsAwesome experience!I met the owner/artist here who was very friendly and setting up his store for the day. His artwork is all over the neighborhood as part of his beautification efforts. It reminded me of the artist Gaudi of Barcelona where the work is a combination of stone and mosaic. It is located outside of Havana but worth the trip to explore.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 5, 2024
- Chris HLos Angeles, California4 contributionsAbsolutely amazing! We ❤️ Fusterlandia. This place is very vibrant and colorful. It is far for the center city, but I think it is unique in Cuba. The entire neighborhood is transformed into and outdoor gallery with mosaic covered houses, sculptures and colorful murals. You can buy some souvenirs.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 23, 2024
- ChiTravl78Chicago, Illinois212 contributionsAmazing Artist CommunityThis was a highlight for me while in Cuba. The art is just amazing and the way it has spread through the neighborhood is just memorizing. It feels more like an artistic town or haven than a neighborhood. We were fortunate enough that our tour guide arranged lunch for us while visiting. This was the best home cooked food we had on our entire trip. It is not a restaurant so if you are interested have your tour company contact them in advance (small groups only). Honestly the lunch at the Fuster House aline is worth a trip to CubaVisited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 1, 2024
- NicoleNew York City, New York6 contributionsThis incredible local artist has transformed his neighborhood—a must see!Wowowowowowowww. A new favorite artist and place. This incredible local artist has transformed his neighborhood and his home into a wonderland covered in whimsical mosaic art similar to Gaudi’s work in Spain. This site of artist Fuster took our breath away, the art is honestly competitive with the many masters of the world, and we couldn’t help but leave with a small original painting of our own from the shop. The artist and his family live on site and have transformed not only their space but the entire neighborhood all the way to the bus stop down the street! Incredible, a must see in Havana.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 23, 2024
- Huxley N.3 contributionsMost creative space in CubaThe most interesting thing I saw in Havana. Part Architecture part living museum, the Fusterlandia house and the neighborhood are something that must be seen. If you appreciate quality original art work and sculpture you will love this area. Cost $2 donation to get full access to everything on the property. Be sure to check out the art gallery on the 2nd floor to buy original pieces.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 29, 2024
- ahc1985Chicago, Illinois57 contributionsAwesome art & cultural experience!Incredible art indulgence! Such a cool project that continues to grow, bringing tourism and money to a Havana neighborhood. Highly recommend spending a few hours here and exploring the local artist galleries on the street. I’ve traveled all over the world and this was indeed a unique experience!Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 3, 2024

I love this kind of art and this kind of obsession. And I love Gaudi, who is an obvious inspiration to Fuster. I have seen a lot of "outsider" art, and I wouldn't classify this as that. Fuster is an actual artist, and many of his tiles and creations are really lovely paintings in and of themselves. I enjoyed these details more than I enjoyed the whole scene. I'm not quite sure why it left me a bit cold, but it did. It is about a 30 minute ride out to Fusterlandia. We went with a private car who waited for us and drove us back. It was about 40 CUC to do that. The location is beyond Miramar, so it is quite a ways from Old Havana. I would definitely say you can experience the house and the surrounding neighborhood in about an hour. He has work to sell at his home which helps to support his ongoing constructions. I'm very glad we were there at a time when the cruise ships were not allowed to dock. Certainly it is a tourist stop. I'm glad we went, as I was curious, but it would not be at the top of my list for Havana.

Jose Fuster transformed a local neighborhood in to an intriguing work of art. The picture you see here is of his backyard. He invites everyone into his house to see his unbelievable mosaics. His neighbors loved what he did so much they asked him to do their walls. He doesn't show any signs of stopping!

A friend and I took a taxi (20 CUC per hour) for a morning and this was our first stop. Minimum allow 1/2 hour to enjoy the mosaics and murals - a full hour is better. Spend time at Mr. Fuster's home (where the best pieces are) and be sure to go to the second level where his tiles and other artworks are for sale. There are other artisan shops and art galleries in the area also. Even the public toilet is interesting - both clean and beautifully decorated.

We had thought to take a taxi to Fusterlandia, get dropped off, walk around the village and get another taxi back. Luckily, the taxi driver talked us out of that and convinced us that for the same fare he would take us there and wait for us to bring us back to our hotel. Right decision, as there isn't anything much else in Jaimanitas and there wasn't a taxi stand anywhere near the Fusterlandia that we could see. The tile work in house itself was interesting, and many of the neighbouring houses had tile work - almost as if they had been repaired with tiles over the years. Fun to see - but if you've been to Parc Guell or the Gaudi hoses in Barcelona, shift down your expectations.

This is so worth a look and a purchase - the artists mission was to make people happy in a very trying time in Cuba - so given what we are all going through with COVID, this even more relevant today. It is whimsical, joyful and quite amazing.
Walking around there is a discovery at every corner and it is a great way to spend some time in Havana. Make sure you look at the gallery there are some great buys to be had.
Take moment to reflect on how we can all react positively to the challenges we face - doing the kind things is wonderful

Fusterlandia - really cool place with Mosiac art. Inspired by Gaudi. Free to get it they have a donations box. Takes about 30minutes to see it all and take photos. Few shops outside with souvenirs. We went on a Friday it closed at 12pm . Open 12-2pm for organized tours. It said might reopen afterwards. Check times before you go as it’s a drive out of Havana. Well worth it though.

I was unaware this existed so when we arrived I was surprised and delighted. Such color and creativity was a real find and just strolling around the area was fun. Lots of local artists. Well worth and hour or two of your time.

The whimsical tile art of Jose Fuster has spread through and transformed this entire neighborhood. I've been three times and discover something different every time. He has tiled every inch of his house creating colorful murals. You never know what or how much art he'll have for sale and this is the only place you can buy it. If you see something you like, grab it and don't think twice.

Jose Fuster made his neighborhood his art project, starting with his own home and unable to stop there as he must have been obsessively compulsive, going on to transform his neighbors homes, making them into magical figures of tile and ceramics, creating an outdoor masterpiece. Let’s call it Cuban psychedelic. Everything is a work of art including the homes, benches, walls and paths. I kept thinking all I do at home is to clean my closets and move a few pictures around. Great place to visit with a small village and some small shops outside. We stayed for an hour.
On the way to Fusterland, we passed through the communities of Verdado, Mirimar, and Jaimanites, along Fifth Avenue, a palm tree lined boulevard with many beautiful old tropical homes and many foreign embassies. The drive from Havana is about 20 minutes from Old Havana and you get to see small Cuban towns outside of Havana and see Cubans without the tourists. On the way back, we stopped at the National Hotel to look for Hyman Roth but he wasn't registered there.

This place is definitely worth a stop. The artist entire home and yard is covered in beautiful mosaics made form tiles. It's truly amazing. Then add to that, the fact that many of the neighborhood homes have also been decorated and you have a very unique experience.

Hi, I am receiving conflicting information in my research.
But, could someone tell me if Fusterlandia is open on Tuesday (the artist's house). I understand I can tour the neighborhood, but I would really like to see the house and buy some artwork. During my research, I have read that it is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Sorry, I can't avise. I would get a hold of the museum directly.
Worth the detour!
Sone artwork is for sale onsite.

Do you have more detailed information going to Fusterlandia by bus, Bus number and route from Old Town?. If the bus runs along the Malecon should have stops at Paseo Marti. The bus that serves Avenida 5ra Where you would pick it up? We are staying near Paseo Marti and Neptuno.
Thanks for any info, definitely it ill be appreciated.

Hi, it's not easy to go by public transport. It was my intention to do so. But it is quite a way out any it's not known by everyone, even staff in my hotel in central Havana were not aware of it.
We took a taxi and normally the driver will wait to take you back, I think 1 hour is enough time to spend there as there isn't anything else to do in that area.
We didn't ask the driver to wait as we thought there would be plenty of taxis to take us back, this was not the case. One of the local people took us back and we had to pay more than the outward cost. It is worth going to see, we enjoyed it.

Hola!

I would just take a taxi. We also went as part of a private tour with VC Tours based in Havana. I recommend them. It was great and reasonably priced!

Does anyone know if there is an elevator in Fusterlandia? I want to bring my mother there when we visit cuba in May but when I visited Fusterland before, I remember that there wasn’t much to see without going upstairs.
Written March 10, 2019
As others have replied, no elevator. I did not climb the stairs due to knee problems, but I enjoyed the ceramics on the ground floor and the surrounding buildings.
