There's a small hotel here on the corner, I can't remember the name but I think it starts...St Juan etc, etc. This was where we stayed during our first visit to Havana. Beautiful old building, and the best breakfast we had in Cuba, though the room was a little grubby in places, I'm sad to say. Anyway it was a... More

We enjoyed visiting this square. Actually, we visited so many squares and enjoyed them all. They were quaint and a great place to meet with friends and neighbors. The buildings although mostly in very bad shape were still pretty.

When we left our cruise ship, it opens directly across from this square. Lots of interesting sights, plenty of taxis available, the San Francisco church there is worth seeing as well.

This is a beautiful old plaza on Havana's waterfront, close to fully restored to a state of colonial grandeur. It is one of the oldest squares in Havana. If you ignore all the tourists (and there can be plenty, as the plaza is right besides where the big cruise ships berth), you could think you had been transported back hundreds... More

The night scene here is excellent, with beautiful buildings, sculptures and access to a great chocolate shop.

There was an art exhibition in the square when we visited although the main highlight is the church itself.

We would almost miss this one! On the last day we had a random walk and it took us here. This place looks bit mor posh than the rest of the city.

This square is opposite the Terminal Sierra Maestra where one would have arrived on a cruise boat up the river! The Square boasts not only the church and convent of St Francis of Assisi and the Fountain of the Lions but also a statue of Chopin and modern sculpture called Conversation. there is an amusing collection of cat statues too... Very close to the harbour, this square is well worth a visit on your walking tour of the centre of Havana. It is ideal for people watching and I was particularly taken by the contrast between the ancient buildings on the square and the very modern piece of modern sculpture on one side, directly opposite the church of St Francis.... The name remains on the square, but the huge church as been turned into a museum. I was part of a walking tour & this was on the walk. The whole area was interesting, but it wasn't anything special like Plaza Vieja was.
