There is a lot of activity in this square trying to get money out of tourists here. They will accept no as an answer - eventually, if you are firm. The cathedral itself is beautiful, and has seen the last three popes say Mass here...More

Although quite busy, this beautiful simplistic cathedral was quite peaceful. Surrounded by massive stone ceilings and walls, parishioners were praying, guests were touring and taking photos (surprised this was allowed)’ yet upon entry there was an instant calmness

This is one of the most famous squares in Cuba and since you are a tourist you might as well bring smalls bills or change (1 CUC) to hand out to the people asking for money. It's often so you can pose with them -...More

Very picturesque plaza ringed with reataurants. The cathedral is far and away the best part of this plaza, and there are better restaurants nearby.

This square is really lovely! Besides the cathedral, there are two period houses displaying the original furniture open to the public. Apparently, one of the two (facing the cathedral) was the first private house built in Havana (according to the guide). The cathedral is really...More

I’ve been to cathedral square many times but found it lacking on this vacation. At 13:00 on Sunday the cathedral was closed, there were no activities in the square and stopping for a drink at the restaurant to the left of the cathedral (the Restaurant...More

The plaza at 9am offers good photo opportunities of the cathedral without having unwanted tourists in your photo. However, the Catedral wasn't open yet for a visit inside. It probably opens mid-morning. Early in the morning the ladies dressed in colorful attire wanting you to...More

Good to see that the Castro years did not destroy places of worship. This was a pleasant square to stroll. Nice looking restaurants for future visits.

Not much here but the cathedral. Nevertheless, it is a lovely square with arches along one side. The church was closed on the day we were there (no real reason was known or given) so we could only see the outside of the cathedral. So...More

While I was there Mass was not going on. I'm sure that your tour guide will inform you whether there will be mass or if you are allowed in during that time. The tour is usually a few hours so even if when you pass by and... More

Trip Report Part 2: 2013.Jun.27-Jul.04 - Havana and Varadero (4 Replies)
Our second day touring Havana involved a walk along Obispo road to the four main plazas/squares. Obispo road may be one of the most active streets in the city, walking along parallel roads transports you from hustle and bustle to deadness. Obispo has numerous clothing, souvenir shops, and small restaurants. We stopped off in a pharmacy as it had an interesting look and feel to it. If you walk directly to the squares, it shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to get there. Our first...More

Thanks for the overall report(s). You've at least part also highlighted why having a guide is not always advantageous. And yes Colon cemetery was certainly open - 8-5 every day. Now if you post a report regarding hair dryer quality in a particular resort you will get more responses lol!

Review of "Havana in One Day" Excursion (14 Replies)
My husband and I did an excursion of Havana offered by Sunwing Vacations in October 2014. It’s marketed as “Havana in One Day” on the Sunwing Vacations website. This is probably the most popular excursion operated by Sunwing and runs Monday through Friday. We absolutely loved it. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We were picked up at our hotel (the Iberostar Tainos) around 7:30 am. I can’t remember the name of our tour guide but he was good and spoke decent English. He provided us...More

I cruised to Havana and this is my trip summary! (2 Replies)
I recently took a cruise to Cuba, and seeing as how it's still in its infancy, I wanted to share my experience so others might learn from it. I didn't find a whole lot of information online so we decided to "wing it". First of all, prior to going there I exchanged my American money for Canadian. When we went through customs and were in the cruise terminal, the line was so long to exchange for CUCs that we decided to try for another spot outside the terminal. Before we exited the terminal we...More

hola :) Good short report! See, one can go visit Havana without mentioning, scammed. Odd that you couldn't find rum or souvenirs. Good Cuban coffee at times can be hard to find. The big flea(artisan) market, San Jose Market was down the street to your left of the docks. Thanks for sharing! buen dia! :)
