Cuba 360 Review We wanted to get an intimate view of Cuba, without relying on the large group tour or having to make all of our travel plans. Fortunately we found Cuba 360. From first contact with Cesar, the owner of this company, we knew we had made the right choice. Cesar was responsive, well organized, thorough and accommodating. He planned a 15 day tour of the western end of Cuba for us that covered all the usual sights but also many hidden gems. This tour included a car and driver, Lionel, who did a great job. Cesar was our full time guide and he arranged all accommodations and took care of all entrance fees. We were financially responsible for our lunch and dinner costs and any other personal expenditures. Our B and B’s were all individual casa particulares. These were ensuite units that included air conditioning, private baths, full breakfasts and welcoming hosts. Cesar either accompanied us to meals or made recommendations which were all stellar. Dinner menus were often edited because of the inconsistent supply chain in Cuba. There were ample choices of chicken, pork and fish. Beef was rarely available at the restaurants we visited. Cesar has a wealth of knowledge, is very fluent in English and made the mistake of telling us in the beginning that he would be happy to answer all our questions. Little did know that we would have so many! We left Cuba with a very complete social and historical perspective. He helped us with currency exchange. It is a cash society so there are no opportunities to use credit or debit cards. He even provided evening entertainment showing us videos of Trevor Noah, a history lesson about Hugo Chavez and an introduction to Havana Club 7 rum! We highly recommend using Cesar and Cuba 360 if you want to see the real Cuba.

Two parts to this review: One is about visiting Cuba, and the other is about Cuba360 and Cesar. Visiting Cuba was a little worrisome because of false impressions that we had heard. It turned out to be surprising in so many ways. The good surprises were the attitude and character of the people of Cuba, the accommodations, the rich culture and history, and most of all, our guide, Cesar. The bad surprises were the conditions of daily life for the Cuban people, the sad state of their infrastructure, the severe limitations of groceries and staples for the average person, and the very low standard of living. I was saddened by the way the US embargo has made a hard life for the average person much harder. The impact of the embargo on the government was undetectable. The casas particulares that Cesar arranged for us were so welcoming and safe. We loved every one. Every restaurant he recommended was a winner. And our driver, Lionel, was friendly and kind, and a great pot-hole avoider!! Cesar was more than a guide. He became a friend. He was open and real, and tried to actually answer all my questions (which are VERY many!). Because of Coronavirus travel problems, we had to shorten our visit from 14 to 11 days. So we hope to go back and see the eastern part of the island as well as Varadero which we missed. We actually joked about posting a lower rating just to get people to read our review, but Cesar is 5 stars all the way.

A friend and I spent a marvelous two weeks birding with Cesar Sr. (March 1-15, 2020). We saw 150+ birds, many multiple times, including the precious Cuban Tody, tiny Bee Hummingbird, spectacular Cuba Trogon, and stunning Mangrove Cuckoo. Until you hear the Cuban Solitaire call up close you have not truly lived! Cesar and the local guides he engages are top notch. Cuba 360 specializes in very small (2-4 people) birding tours, so personal attention is unmatched. Cesar’s expertise in all aspects of the environment and landscape added greatly to our experience (Cesar has a degree in geophysics from Bulgaria’s Sofia University). Accommodations were welcoming and comfortable (breakfasts included fabulous fresh papaya, piña, guava!). Our driver, Yander, expertly navigated some thrilling dirt roads to deliver us safely to remote habitats. Everything about our trip was perfect. A once-in-a-lifetime adventure thanks to Cesar Sr. and Cuba 360. THANK YOU so much!

Couldn't have imagined how immersed we'd get so quickly, part of this incredible island country, its land and its people... and its BIRDS! We experienced new wonderful places and adventures and had a blast every day - fortunate and well taken care of by Cesar, chofer Yander Diaz Hernandez, helpful local guides, and warm welcoming accommodations, delicious breakfasts, fun lunch stops along the highway traversing diverse habitat along side our Cuban neighbors. We learned so much about Cuba history and Cuba now - with more in store for us upon our return. Can't thank Cesar and his family enough for the life-expansion we experienced.
