Be aware when a lady aproaches you telling you that she knows you from the hotel😄 She only tries to gain your trust. To scam you with fake cigars. DO NOT change your euro at official places. Instead just pay with euro and they will give you change in peso at a rate of 100 to 130 peso for one euro. Tip at least 10%. People there are really struggling. Before getting in a taxi tell him how much you are willing to pay. Taxi or private car from Miramar to old Havana is 10 to 20 euro. From Miramar to the beach is 20 euro. At busy locations it is better to take a walk and get a taxi or private car at a less busy place to get the best rate.

My wife and I were lucky to hire a fantastic driver, Jose Antonio (pm for his contact detail). Jose took us around everywhere around Havana. But the most memorable tour was Old Havana, with Jose's convertible 1950's Buick, he was showing us the city, and providing us lots of historic facts and stories. His English was good, he's super friendly and well mannered. By the second day we were enjoying his service, it felt like he was just a friend driving us around.

Last year my g/f and I stayed at a lovely hotel called "Panarama" located just outside of Havana , probably a twenty- five minute drive to the old town of Havana. The modern Panarama Hotel has a glassed- in elevator and rooms were very spacey with a refrigerator, air and modern bathrooms. Our room looked out to the large pool and bar around the back. The complementary breakfast was huge with plenty of meats, eggs, fruit , cakes etc. Often they had a small Cuban group play in the evenings. One certainly doesn't need a car while there, as there are plenty of taxis in the area and outside the hotel. Prices for a single was under one hundred dollars. There was a large shopping area across the street, though food was in short supply and expensive We often walked to various restaurants in the area. Havana was amazing and we went daily, photographing the areas and people. Usually we headed to Obispo Street which is closed to traffic and there were endless people, bars and restaurants. Hemingway spent much of his time while writing his novels at some of the hotels there. Change your Cuban Cu.s Your money will go a long way (25-1) in the local currency. Changers are on the street but be discrete and careful. . An ice cream goes for ten cents as compared to cu.s. which easily is one to two dollars ( tourist price) The Hotel Panorama offered free daily trips into the city .We usually tipped the driver who picked us up at a special location, and took us back to the hotel.

We booked a day trip to Havana from our resort in Varadero through Sunwing. It was supposed to be a historical tour and I looked forward to learning more about the history of Cuba. The visit to Earnest Hemmingway’s house was really cool but other than that there was not much historical about it. It was nice to see the architecture of old Havana but it was quite dirty and there were a lot of people asking for money. The tour guide said he would take us to cigar shops well he took everyone to one and it was sketchy. You couldn’t by a box of cigars, only singles or there was a bag with 6 different ones in it that he was really pushing as the “best deal”. That translated to me that he got a better kick back from it. We didn’t trust they were real so we didn’t buy anything there. For cigars, buy from the airport. It was the best deal and they are sealed so you know they are real. We did get a ride in the old cars which was pretty cool as well. The day ended a fort for an evening ceremony where they fired a cannon. We were dropped off here and the tour guide didn't explain anything about the fort. We just stood around and waited for the canon ceremony.. It was a very long day, 7:45 AM pick up and a midnight return and not at all worth the time or money you will spend on it.

Just back from spending 7 days in Havana and 3 days would have been plenty. The car tour was great and $30, some charged $60! Did the hop on hop off bus tour and it was great but we couldn’t hear the guide through the sound system above. The architecture is lovely but crumbling and work is ongoing to restore some areas. Wifi is difficult to find except in one area, And the wifi cards are $1 for 1 hour, purchase at hotels because some may charge you $3. We stayed in a very nice Casa on Factoria street that was very central and all brand new. Good food is difficult to find but the sandwiches and pizza at Cubanita were delish and between $2-$4, Cafe 500 is also new and their menu was great, I recommend them! Taxis have no set fees for tourists so be sure to haggle before you get in the car! Tourists are overcharged blatantly and can be harassed quite a bit! If anyone offers to lead you to a restaurant, show you a statue or take a picture for you then they expect to get paid for it. We were approached by many to help buy milk for their babies, don’t do it!!

Beautiful building.
Gin but no tonics!
All locals had their phones on and up filming whatever was going on,spoilt ballet we went to see, unsophisticated audience, would not happen in Europe.
Chaotic organisation getting to our seats, seemed a free for all.
This is Cuba though.

We took a horse buggy ride our first day in Havana and had a wonderful time. It gave us a good sense of where we could go in the city and how to get there. Our tour guide/driver named Rafael who’s buggy is number 19, gave an amazing tour of the city. He took us to all the greatest hits as well as stopped somewhere along the way for us to get a drink, do some shopping in a market and took us on a tour of an old cathedral. We had someone with slight mobility issues and he was helpful getting her in and out of the wagon. I highly recommend hiring him if you’re going to take this to her and for only $10CHe took us to all the greatest hits as well as stopped somewhere along the way for us to get a drink, do some shopping in a market and took us on a tour of an old cathedral. If you decide to take this tour bring along some children’s toys or clothing for Raphael‘s beautiful wife and young 2 yr old child -he greatly appreciated the gifts we returned with the next day.

Havana has lots of lovely architecture, beautiful squares to wander round, with cafes, restaurants and street artists. The streets were not rushed and not much traffic, but then it's not full tourist season. The roads are full of potholes so expect to be shaken about a bit! The air is very smelly from the car fumes but the cars are lovely to see. A tour in one is a nice experience and a good way to see and learn about the city. The side streets are a bit rough around the edges and there are many touts wanting you to change money. They do leave you alone if you say no and walk on but it gets a bit tedious as they are round every corner and on every street. The streets are strewn with rubbish and potholes along the paths mean it's easier to walk down the roads and that's not too much of a problem in August as it's fairly quiet. In my opinion a good time to go! Everyone wants Euro or Pounds in preference to Peso so better not to change much money if any. There are some lovely restaurants and cafes in the squares and not expensive compared to most capital cities. The people are very friendly and helpful and happy to sit and chat to you though not too many can speak English so though quite challenging was also rather fun. Tourists are completely safe walking around even in the evening so explore both day and night. Well worth a visit

Nice place to visit. I definitely wouldn't book hotels or airbnb's here as it smells bad in places and is noisy at night.

It's a place to go and see attractions and then go somewhere else for food, drinks and accommodation.

Our tour guide , Mia, made Cuban history comes alive starting at Old Havana’s main square with the Havana Cathedral in the Plaza de la Catedral towering over you and the baroque architecture buildings survived the centuries despite neglect. Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets crowded with visitors, signs of rental units, blue doors indicating schools, shops located on stairs, tenants using baskets with ropes as lifts and the beautiful dressed colorful kissing ladies standing in the square. Very impressive wood used as cobblestones next to the Governor mansion to appease his wife. The beautiful Cathedral of San Cristobal, where the remains of Christopher Columbus was kept before removed to Seville. The architecture of the building where Hemingway stayed and the small crowded bar frequented by him “Le Bodeguita del Medio” with a band blasting music and people drinking mojito and cristal beer. It feels like stepping back in time and make you wonder what a beautiful place it once used to be.
