My wife and I had an excellent 5 day tour with Adrian. We went from Havana to Vinales for one night and then on to Playa Larga for 3 nights. The pace was very suitable for us (my wife is only slightly interested in birding), the food and weather were good and the accomodation at Ca del Sol in Playa Larga was excellent with great hosts. Adian was careful in lining up some outstanding sites where I was able to take good quality photos. Thank you very much for the lovely experience.

We came in a cruise ship, and were met by the Kirkconnell guide right outside the terminal as he had arranged. A taxi picked us up shortly, and we were driven through Havana with explanations about the sites along the way.
We had no idea what wonderful scenery Cuba offers, and we got a good view of many exciting birds, even the Trogon, Cuba's national bird. It was a pleasant day of birding with an informed and agreeable guide, even above expectations.

This was our only chance to leave Havana so I enjoyed seeing the countryside and small villages as much as the birds. Adrian was an excellent guide, very patient with us as we looked for birds. He knew exactly where to find species on my target list. The taxista found the Cuban solitaire on the cave face at Cueva Los Portales - all in all a great day trip to see some endemic Cuban species.

Our leader was Adrian Morales Posada who was a very good birder. He knew songs/calls and was able to call in the birds with a recording. We saw many trogons and todys.....was fabulous. One day is not enough to see all of the endemic sand specialties but we were limited by our cruise. One easy day of birding yielded 57 species and 20 of them were endemic or specialties! Will go again to see the rest and will definitely request Adrian! An added note, the trogon and the today are spectacularly beautiful!

Adrien and driver, Rory, picked us up by the cruise terminal for a 10 hour day of birding west of Havana. We saw over 55 species and many endemics including Cuban Tody, Emerald, and Cuban Trogon. We enjoyed seeing the countryside and local people in the area around Vinales. The limestone caves and forest were beautiful! Adrien's English is good and he knew exactly where to look for specific birds. Really enjoyed watching the snail kites! Thank you for a wonderful time!

Arturo knows where the endemic species hang out and how to create a superb opportunity to observe and photograph them. I have two photo albums on my Flickr site- GHRancher - where I have shared some of my favorite photos of the Bee Hummingbird, Cuban Tody and all the endemics of a large part of the island. The best is a video of the Bare-legged Owl in a tree. Cutest bird I have seen so far on the six continents where I have birded. Hotels, stays and restaurants were very nice. High regard for Arturo's ability to take you where the birds are, bring out to say hello and get you a chance for gorgeous photos.

13.12.2018 I and my wife get birding with Adrian. Our day was relaxing and I get birding enough for one day (8 - 16.30). I get about 40 species and 3 endemics and photos for my E-bird list.

I only had one day to discover the birds of Cuba and Arturo arranged for a guide, Adrian, to take me to Las Terrazas. It was a wonderful day and Adrian found all the endemics in the area including the elusive Pygmy Owl. He knew right where to go to find the birds and cold spot them quickly, even from the moving car! The highlight for me was finding the tiny Cuban Tody, who came quite close to allow a photograph. I would never have found nearly as many birds on my own. I highly recommend Adrian's services as a birding guide. There was good email communication prior to the trip, he arrived on time, wasted no time while birding, and spoke English quite well. The car was very comfortable. No problems whatsoever.

Adrian met us at the airport and we were off! He was friendly and knowledgeable and along with our driver we learned much about Cuba and its birds. Adrian would spot a bird as we were driving down the road, have the driver pull over and show us birds that we would never have seen otherwise. When we didn’t want to do the “touristy” crocodile farm, Adrian said not to worry, we could see many interesting birds without spending the money and time on the tourist attractions. He went with us to Las Terrazas, Vinales and in and around Playa Larga and we had a wonderful time and saw many birds. Adrian was fun to be with, knew his birds and also had good suggestions for places to stay and eat.

I participated in a day tour with Adrián as my guide. We did a full day of birding in a few spots near Havana. I was able to view and photograph a number of great birds such as the Cuban Solitaire, Cuban Emerald, Cuban Bullfinch, Cuban Trogan, Cuban Pewee, Cuban Grassquit, Cuban Green Woodpecker, and the Cuban Tody! I was very happy with Adrián's expertise in all of the sites we visited. He spotted birds that I never would have seen without him. For example, there was a Stygian Owl high in the canopy, and he spotted it with no trouble. Adrián was professional but very personable and relatable; it felt like I was birding with a friend! I would highly recommend birding with him. If I return to Cuba, I will be booking another tour with Adrián

I'm thinking of visiting Havana in March, but I am wondering how to book a day-tour with Kirkconnell's Birds. Is it something that needs to be done well in advance, or can it be done once you have arrived in Havana?
Written December 21, 2018
While I scheduled very much in advance, and was glad I had, if you contact Kirkconnell now there may be other options.
