"Warm Welcome"
Jun 2019 • Solo
This lovely old church was situated from my hotel in Old Havana.
From the outside it does not look much at all,but once inside it has the most amazing architecture.
Lovely stonework and amazing artwork on walls and alcoves along with brightly coloured stained glass windows.
Worth a visit if you are passing by.

Don’t miss this gem
Aug 2018 • Couples
This church was just a couple blocks away from the route we took on our private walking tour of old Havana. When we went out on our own on our second day, we Went in search of the beautiful steeple we were able to see from the crew ship. Even just the street that leads to the church from hotel Rakel was gorgeous. We happened upon the end of a baptismal or Christening service for multiple babies and their families. It’s gorgeous inside and out, don’t miss it!

Beatiful church, recently restored
Mar 2018 • Friends
One of the many churches in Havana, the Iglesia y Convento St Augustin/St Francesco dates from 1608 and, like many churches, has later painted decoration, which here have recently been restored. The outside, while it has stone carving and a tall tower, does not reflect the quality of the church you will find inside. The stonework vaulting inside has Islamic touches to it, leading to the high dome, there are many altars to various saints and a magnificent baroque high altar.

Nice to visit
Jan 2017 • Friends
The church is located in a quiet street of old Havana.
The church is quite old but in good condition and there is also a small park outside.
Not very visited but interesting.

One of many churches along Calle Cuba
Nov 2016 • Solo
I came upon this church walking along Calle Cuba in Old Havana on my last trip to Cuba. I had never walked along the entire stretch of this street on any of my many visits to this part of the city. It seamed like every 2-300 meters there appeared a church, this is one of those churches that's almost hidden among all the houses. The Church of San Agustin is also known as Church of San Francisco el Nuevo.
It was built between 1608-1663 under the patronage of St. Augustine. In 1842 it became the property of the Third Order of St. Francis & in 1844 the Franciscan friars of the First Order. In 1866 the Franciscans had to leave the church due to Spanish laws of secularization but were reinstated in 1896 by the Obispo Diocese. It falls into disrepair by 1919 but undergoes some renovations in 1925. The Franciscans once again have to abandon the church in 1966, once again by the ruling government but this time shutting down all religion. By 1987 the church is occupied once again but remained closed to the public with the Historians Office of Havana starting important renovations by 2002-3. It opened for regular church service in 2008.
