Trekking in the Viñales Valley

google
This visit allows you to enjoy the beautiful views of the Viñales Valley, while walking, and also at the different stops, you can see how different products of the area are made, with the characteristic tobacco and coffee plantations. You will have the opportunity to taste the authentic Cuban cigar, coffee, honey or rum typical of the "Guayabita del Pinar" area. We will continue to the cave of silence (optional), where we will make a visit, and finally you can relax at the lake where you will have free time to bathe, and eat something in the restaurant that is in the area, where you can enjoy charcoal food , as a specialty, or something to snack on, if they wish. Later, we will return to the beginning of the route.

My husband and I arrived at the synagogue without having an appointment but were not only warmly welcomed but provided with a thorough tour by the secretary. It mattered not that one of us was not Jewish. We learned the history of the synagogue and about the congregation and services offered to the community. The pictures on the wall, the artifacts, artwork general ambience and particularly the time freely given by staff all contributed to a wonderful and very worthwhile visit.

We were very fortunate to travel with a Jewish mission because our director was able to set up a meeting with Dr. Myra Levy who answered many questions about the Jews and their life in Cuba. The sanctuary is not outstanding but the ark holds several Torahs. It was quite interesting to see the senior center and interact with Jews and non-Jews playing dominos and cards and musical instruments. There is also a big gym. Steven Spielberg set up a Holocaust Museum here which is great as well. We came with donations and we brought Purim groggers, art supplies, vitamins, toothbrushes and paste, combs and socks and money. They need everything.

This building seems really incongruous given the rest of Cuba is colonial in style. Also, due to the Revolution, religion is very muted in Cuba, so this was a surprise. It is a beautiful building though.
