About
The “Bahia de Cochinos” is, of course, where the U.S. staged a failed invasion of Cuba.

We went to the bahía de Cochinos, where an attempted landing by sea and military invasion of Cuba by Cuban exiles supported by the United States took place in April 196.
An emblematic place in Cuban history

I spent 12 days here this year in February. It was a wonderful experience, however I was greatly disappointed in the bird tours through the park. In fact it was so bad I won't use them again.

First, the renovated jeep three of us were put in was a horrible vehicle for a tour. You couldn't see out the windows on the long, rugged road and the driver thought he was in the Grand Prix. Second, the Guide spoke English as did the passengers. He talked in Spanish with the driver the entire trip and only acknowledged us when I asked him questions. Third, halfway there he informed us there weren't many birds this year. After agreeing to pay $50 for the trip this was a big disappointment. He was right...due to no rainfall this year, all but 10 flamingos had left and they were so far away they might have left too.

I feel they should have told us beforehand that there weren't any birds to see except pelicans and ibis and a couple of herons.

I might as well have put my money in the garbage. It was a waste of time and money!!! Maybe it will be better in the rainy season. The private trips I took were extremely fun and birds galore!

Read about what happened here before you go and use your imagination to think about the Americans trying to land here and it being a place of war. It is now a peaceful sandy bay with blue seas. So different from then. There is a hotel and commercial beach at the far end.

Once a place of invasion, now a place of incredible beauty.

A fishing village surrounded by newer buildings and plenty of rooms to rent, restaurants, gorgeous waters, etc.

We visited the Cave of Fish, Crocodile Park, took in some history and ate at the Tiki Restaurant which had the most amazing chicken soup, smoked bbq pork chop and beef, which also served blue crab, fish, and calamari.

Take a taxi driver that knows the history! I have a recommendation but not sure if I can post but will say his name is Carlos (goes by Charlie by the hotels) and has a 1959 Ford Fairlane. They know who he is, so ask.

we spent three days in Playa Larga and spent a day exploring all the beaches. For snorkeling hands down go past the main tourist beach with all the people 10 minutes further down the road is a beach called Tanke you will be alone no one will be feeding the fish which seems to be a thing in Cuba and you can explore amazing coral and lots of fish.

This review is based upon our booking the trip through virgin holidays our tour operator.
The tour was described as “countryside and history” seeing a non working sugar mill and see some old steam engines, visiting the bay of pigs museum finishing the day off on a beach with lunch and an open bar.
Let me first start by saying the only truth in this description was the visit to the beach, Which whilst a quiet cove an hour and a half was far too long here.
Our tour guide Ernesto was lacking information and didn’t say anything regarding the tour; firstly to the history of the bay of pigs nor to where we were stopping each time.
Our first stop was to a crocodile farm, which had this been in the description we wouldn’t of gone, seeing baby crocodiles chucked into a bucket and bought out when stupid tourists want there photos taken with these animals is not my idea of fun.
We were then taken on short a boat trip to a aboriginal island where statutes were sporadically placed on the island with title such as “boy hunting with dog”.
Again there was no information given to this island and so can only assume this was the bay museum ?? Who knows.
The lunch we ended up leaving the table as it was so poorly prepared and had no taste to it all, however after the 40 mins wait for lunch we were given a “magic show” from the entertainment manager ... no comment on this one.
We had left our beach wear on the bus as we were only told we were going for lunch not that we had arrived at the “bay of pigs” and to which there is no changing facilities at the bar. (There is a toilet).
My husband gave me the historical information of the bay of pigs now thankfully and maybe will pass this onto Ernesto.

The lunch was obviously up to Ernestos taste as he slept the whole way back to the hotels drop offs.
Overall it’s 6 hours of our vacation and life we won’t be getting back. Horrendous disappointing promises.

I found the Bay of Pigs to be anti-climatical. As you know there isn't much in the way of beaches and the snorkeling is mostly for divers. For beaches and snorkeling, i suggest you go somewhere else. I don't dive but we were told that the diving is excellent.

We enjoyed snorkeling in the ocean at the Bay of Pigs in January. The weather was perfect. Easy access In and out of the ocean. We had our own equipment, but there was a place to rent if needed.

there's a pond on the other side of the Bay
I think which is neat and nice
The Bay of Pigs honestly is a bit of disappointment to me
very rocky and is not safe as the ladder is slippery and water is rough. I even hurt myself when I try to pull myself up from the water with the scuba equipment.
I will not go again
