My friend and I went during January, and it was such a great experience! Irene was a great guide, very friendly, funny and laid back. The horses were all very well-mannered and had their own personalities. We had fun watching one of them blow bubbles in the water. Swimming with them was such a cool experience and Irene did an awesome job of teaching me how. Would highly recommend, great for beginner riders and still fun for experienced riders because not often do you get to swim with them!

Great choice. Horses are very well taken care of. We really enjoyed the ride through the Bonaire landscape, with a few stories and lots of laughs along the way. Managed by the owner who knows her horses to the tee. Being a horse owner myself it was very important for me how they were kept. Nice stalls and well fed horses. Very safe for first time riders as well. Would recommend to my friends

Went to Curacao on a cruise. Communication was easy on WhatsApp. Quick response time. We were picked up in the am and brought to the ranch. Both Irene and her husband were awesome! Vert friendly and outgoing!
My group ranged from beginners to experienced riders and we all had fun! Swimming with the horses was the best part! Would definitely go again next time!

This was so special for our family; a truly one of kind experience! The pickup in town was seamless, the service was perfect, and Irene and family were accommodating. My children haven’t stopped talking about riding the horses in the water, and neither can I. Chatting through WhatsApp prior to our visit helped us get all of our questions answered. Highly recommend!

We went with Irene and two other guests just a few days ago. Highly recommend.

Well-behaved horses, and the ranch's baby goat is adorable.

Irene is very knowledgable about the area and just a fun person to be with.

Make sure you take your GPS to get out there! : )

The horses appear to be well taken care of. That is the nicest thing I can say about this place. The owner operator is downright rude. Her horse selection was predetermined, when the only advice she had from our reservation emailing was "varying skill levels". A quarter horse, an Arabian, a throughbred, a warm blood, and the other one I don't know. Getting wet in the water, yes. Swimming no. We swam with hourses on St Marten two years prior. Communication between leader and the five of us was minimal. I don't expect to be entertained, but more than "hello, this is your horse".

Try the other riding place on the island.
If she bothers to reply, please believe we said varying skill levels ahead of time.

Arranged this when traveling there on cruise. It wasn't an excursion, but very easy to reserve via Facebook. Owner picked us up at the dock and drove us the 15 minutes out to the ranch. We were not experienced riders, but that didn't matter. We were on our horses in about 10 min and led through a very Arizona-like terrain. We rode on for about 45 minutes and heard about the island and wildlife until we got to a lagoon like area. We wore our bathing suits under our pants, so we just took off the outer layers and followed our guides into the water with the horses. The guides stayed with us the whole time, so it's not like you're out there alone with a 1200 lb beast. Swam in turns for about 30 minutes, then took another 45 minute ride along the Atlantic beach. Very worth the trip. Hosts very accommodating, and you can tell they care for the horses.

Helpful... you really do need long pants and closed toed shoes because type riding along bramble bushes.

You should just wear your stuff under your jeans or whatever. You can change at the beach too. It's primative but private.

I booked a 2 hour horseback riding tour as a last-minute excursion at the end of a week-long trip in Bonaire, the morning of my flight. Planning the trip with Bregje and Marc was so incredibly convenient - all details were arranged over email communication, and Marc picked me up from my lodgings on the morning of the tour (and even graciously took me straight to the airport afterwards). I hadn't ridden a horse in over a decade, since I was a little girl - but I felt totally comfortable the whole time. We took it at a slow pace for most of the trip, but at times broke out into a trot and even a canter. The trail we took was absolutely beautiful, and the best part was when we took a break by a bay and took the horses for a swim! It was definitely more exhilarating than expected. Bregje even took pictures for our group throughout the tour and emailed some to me afterwards. Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Rancho Washikemo is professional, easy to arrange, with knowledgeable owners Bregje and Marc. Guests can choose to drive to the ranch or be picked up at hotel or cruise ship. Read the website so you know to wear long pants and real shoes, with your bathing suit under your clothes - bring sunscreen and a hat to protect from the sun. Bring a small towel if you want.

This is just over 2 hours - a trail ride to the lake through the bush and cactus, the swimming itself, and a different trail ride back along the eastern "wild" side of the island. Be ready to see goats and donkeys in the wild, and the ride passes the oldest ranch building on the island. Bregje even gives history and regional info as you ride.

I liked the entire set of experiences! I was especially pleased that the water ride was so long. The horses love swimming - and I was fascinated on how the horses prepare and swim. I felt extremely cared for - the whole experience was very well prepared, planned, and professional.

If you are thinking about coming to Rancho Washikemo, bring your enthusiasm and willingness for an adventure. Bring a bottle of water and your fascination to learn about the backcountry, away from commercialism and other people. It's worth your time.
