Maria introduced me and my son with scuba diving in the beautiful sea of Bonaire. She taught us the first basics in a very comfortable, safe and professional approach. It was an amazing first experience with scuba diving and we go for more!

Thank you so much Harco! I hope you and Storm will see this experience as the starting point for a great hobby and sport that you can explore and enjoy together. I hope it leads you both back to Bonaire some day, as I would love to take you both diving again. Maybe this time we even convince mom to give it a go... Take care and stay healthy!

I am the adventurous type, but I take calculated risks. I was a firefighter, have been a Wilderness EMT for 18 years, and currently volunteer with mountain rescue. My partner is a bit more on the skittish and cautious side, so she takes some convincing. We've had several bad experiences with dive masters either shaming her or ignoring her needs. This was not the case with Maria. She was very attentive to my partner's requests and needs, and she spent the time with her to help her become a more confident diver. Additionally, I did my nitrox certification with Maria. Professional, safe, and thorough. I feel confident in the training she provided, and I would dive with Maria any time. If you're ever on Bonaire, please contact Maria no matter what your level of diving experience. She's an excellent guide and puts safety and humility in diving above all else.

Thank you Christopher! Your and Stephanie's trip was cut short because of the Corona situation, however: I a m pretty sure we will see you on Bonaire again in the future. In the meantime: stay positive and healthy and dream of diving!

Once upon an island, there was this traveler who loved the underwater world. She had visited many islands in her youth and learned the pleasures of diving, but not without anxiety and fear prior to each dive. After several years, she left the seas and ventured to the mountains for another life. Twenty years later, the call of the ocean and its creatures returned along with uncertainty. Fortunately, after two challenging experiences, the traveler met Maria, her dive guide in Bonaire. Maria was knowledgeable and professional but also upbeat and positive. She prioritized safety and skills first and built confidence with patience. When needed, Maria broke down skills into smaller steps and provided tools for improvement. Though still skittish, the traveler envisions many more ventures under the sea. (Cue: Under the Sea song here)

Dear Stephanie, thank you so much for your lovely story! I am sure the story of the Skittish Scuba Diver will have many sequels, hopefully some of them on the beautiful island of Bonaire. The teeny tiny juveniles at Something Special are requesting your return! Take care of yourself and your loved ones, be safe and see you again!

Maria introduced us to the world of beach diving and changed our diving life forever. Her schedule was flexible, she introduced us to a spectacular selection of dive sites and guided us through the intricacies of shore entries. We are better divers as a result. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
