We went to Crane mostly for the pink sand. Unfortunately the waterline was packed with seaweed ans so we couldn‘t take in the full experience. Also I got a rash from the seaweed on my feet.

Crane beach has always been one of my favorite places to go when visiting Barbados. Still enjoyed it but, the sargassum seaweed has lessened the pleasure and pristine experience. The Crane resort has grown and where in the past there would only be a couple...More

This is absolutely picturesque. The breeze is stiff and the waves are fierce. Not really a swimming beach.

We spend a great afternoon at this beach. The surf was strong, but we felt safe the entire time. It was easy to catch waves on a boogie board without fins, given the shallow water and the strong surf. There was a bit of Sargassum,...More

I don’t like the beach. My wife and daughter like the beach. However this is not as much a beach as it is a contact sport. Hopefully you visit it on a day where the waves are substantial. I think you should be careful and...More

My wife and I were in the beach in the afternoon of the 5th day of January; it was not sunny, but the weather was warm. Lots of sea moss were on the sands, and the angry sea kept bringing more and shaping the imense...More

A great beach for waves and relaxing. Restaurant on site, friendly staff and great waves. It does get crowded, but if you come early you may have to deal with the seaweed, but well worth it.

Crane Beach used to be a magical place - remote, windswept, stunningly beautiful. However, the hotel above it has been expanded into an ugly collection of Disney buildings that are out of place and offend the landscape - and despite all beaches in Barbados being...More

We hired a taxi driver/guide, Komal Gabriel, for the day. He met us at the cruise dock and did a great job driving us all over the island. One our stops was beautiful Crane Beach with its lovely pink sand. Komal led us to an...More

About half an hour by car or a couple of hours by bus with transfers and such. if you don't have a car you are probably better off arranging for a taxi with your hotel.

Seaweed (2 Replies)
Hi Everyone. I'm curious if the seaweed issue on the east cost has changed at all. I have heard Crane beach is basically unusable right now.

Where have you heard that? I don't know if there is or is not seaweed at Crane beach today. I know it was pretty thick last week and whilst there may be some again this week, only someone who is there today can say for sure. The prevailing winds, tides etc mean that East Coast is most likely to be effected but it can be here today, gone tomorrow. I have spent many weeks at the Crane over the years. For the first 10 years we never saw seaweed. In past 5 years it has been intermittent. One...More

Mullins beach webcam / Omar impact (6 Replies)
Watching Mullins webcam at 13.00 today you can see it's more like Crane beach than the Caribbean! RW beach guys not sure if they should put our the beds in case they get washed away! Interesting to see how much the beach has changed due to Omar - considering how far away it actually is/was. We were on the West coast last week and could walk from Lone Star to Holetown - albeit beach a bit narrow in places. At Zaccios the last storm had taken the beach away so no room for beds down there...More

well they seem to have risked putting out the beds, but right close to the beach bar. As you say, it looks rather rough today, albeit the weather looks gorgeous. Quite often seems to be the case that when the west coast gets rough seas, the weather can be good. Hope things continue to improve by the weekend as I am off to BGI. Just hope there are some beaches left on the west coast! How bad was Surfside beach? I have seen it reduced to rubble before now!

trip report and many thanks (9 Replies)
First off, thanks so much to everyone who posts on this forum. We found so much info here. Spent a fabulous week in Barbados. We intended to take the bus from the airport to our hotel in Rockley, but a reggae bus stopped first, and off we went! The bus system is easy and cheap. We mostly rode the bus, but we walked a lot too-watch out for holes in the sometimes narrow sidewalks, and bring a flashlight for night time. We rented a car for our own island tour for a day and had great fun...More
