My girlfriend and I contacted Ryan the day before our paddle board trip to see whether we could do a "turtle tour" the next morning. He responded quickly and said absolutely but would confirm the safety of the water the next morning as we were both new to SUP.

On arrival at Port St Charles he clearly and concisely talked through paddle board technique and safety, whilst also making the lesson element of the experience enjoyable. We were both immediately put at ease with him as our teacher and guide.

On entering the water we both quickly got comfortable paddling and set off north along the coast. Ryan was fun to chat with during the experience, describing local wildlife, history and giving us some interesting stories about paddle boarding on the island.

We were lucky enough to swim with a turtle during the paddle, Ryan provided snorkels for us and also brought along a camera to take pictures. He emailed these to us afterwards and they came out very well.

We had a great time and couldn't recommend the experience, and Ryan, more highly.

We had a brilliant time with Ryan. I thought he was a brilliant instructor and guide for paddle boarding and really enjoyed swimming with the turtles. I would really recommend this turtle tour and Ryan is great company, with excellent stories and insights into local life. Top marks.

I'm not a swimmer and I had a great time. Ryan is a great teacher and was very patient with me, while mentioning some things Kathleen had not heard from her instructor in Canada. After learning on shore, I took the board out in the shallow beach area and tried what I had been told while Ryan watched and gave feedback. I had a vest on, which helped my confidence. We then ventured out into deeper water and into the wind, which changed things a lot for me. Being tall, I found it hard to stay upright and on course. We did a little snorkeling with turtles and fish while Ryan held our boards, then headed back to the beach. I was pretty tired by the end, but glad I had tried this out.

Hanging out at the beach, my friend got stung by a stonefish (very rare! don't worry! go in the water!). My friend was in pain, couldn't walk, and we had no idea what had happened, but Ryan, finishing up a paddleboard lesson came to our rescue. Not only did he know what had happened, he knew the remedy, shared his first aid kit, and dropped us home. What a great guy! Thank you, Ryan! You turned our day around. :)

Absolutely loved SUP Boarding and Ryan was the perfect teacher.
We started the lesson with a short stint on the sand, learning technique, safety etc before taking to the water. With Ryan's help both me and my partner were up and paddling away within minutes. Although quite unsteadily at first!
Once we felt comfortable, Ryan took us on a short trip along the coast acting as guide and coach along the way. We were even lucky enough to paddle alongside a turtle for a while.
We both had a great day and really enjoyed the lesson. I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone wanting to try SUP Boarding. Thank you Ryan! We'll be back next year :)

We could not have asked for a better experience! Ryan is an AMAZING guide and we had a blast hanging out with him on the water. We paddle board at home and he managed to make it a fun and unique experience.

We went out for a tour at sunset and I don't know if it was luck or just in the cards for us but we saw -and swam with - turtles, starfish, a whole ton of fish around a shipwreck and even managed to catch some waves on our way back in. Beautiful setting and a lot of fun. Ryan even captures photos of the whole thing so you can concentrate on having fun.

This is a must-do activity while you're in Barbados - you will not regret it!!

We are a family of 4 with a 12 and 14 year old and had never tried paddle boarding before. Ryan was an amazing teacher, so positive and knowledgeable. He had us up and paddling in no time. Port st Charles is a great place to learn as the water is so flat and calm, the water so clear that you can see the marine life from the board. I am so pleased that we chose to learn with Ryan rather than a larger impersonal school. Would definitely recommend, can’t wait to go again! We are hooked!

Our group of three adults and three kids went out with Ryan for a paddleboarding lesson in the south coast at Pebble Beach, near the Hilton Hotel. Ryan is a local professional paddle boarder. He gave extremely detailed and valuable instructions before we went into the water. He was very supportive to all of us and was always encouraging when I was almost ready to give up. He is quite a character with some good stories to tell. The kids LOVED him and he took all of our photos for us and they were emailed to us. If we had just one more day extra the kids already voted that this was something they wanted to do again. So now we will definitely have to go back to Barbados to paddleboard with Ryan again. Next time we will try the West Coast with him.

Had a fabulous time learning stand up paddleboarding with What'SUP. Ryan was a great instructor! We started out at 9 a.m. on the sand with the boards, as he explained the proper techniques to hold the paddle, steer, balance, turn around, etc. My biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able to get back on the board if I fell off. Thankfully, Ryan also taught us how to get back up on the board, so that when I did happen to fall I was able to easily get back on again. Plus he was with us cheering us on and helping us every "paddle" of the way! I would definitely recommend Ryan to everyone wanting to learn the correct way from the start, plus he makes it a fun time for all!

Thanks Jane! It was fantastic having you all out with me and I'm glad you enjoyed every minute of it! And if you manage to do any SUP'ing in the future, I'd love to hear about your future experiences or even see some pictures. Cheers Ryan

Ryan looked after us three 50-something women amazingly, teaching us all about what to do in all situations when paddle boarding before we took to the water. He gave us the confidence that we were lacking and we all had a fabulous experience, seeing a turtle up close and then paddle boarding out on the sea, and not falling off! Also giving us the potted history of Barbados in .our rest on the boards. A great experience, would highly recommend Ryan.
