Amazing experience! Reggie, the owner and artist, came right out to greet us when we pulled in. We got to learn about his past and how he started his business. We then got a tour of his entire workshop. The sculptures are so fantastic and the fact that we know who and where they came from and that they are all handcrafted, one of a kind, really made it that much more special. Thank you Reggie!

A stop at Medford Craft World is a must when visiting Barbados! I personally stop in each time I visit Barbados. Reggie Medford is such a talented creator, if nothing else, it is a feast for the eyes and the imagination! It’s difficult to explain the uniqueness of each piece. If you are looking for a one of a kind creation, put Medford Craft World on your hot list! You won’t be disappointed!

The Artist (Reggie Medford) is usually present at the gallery, he is an encyclopedia of knowledge and can explain every detail of the process of any piece. A humble people person, I felt welcome and befriended. Honoured to meet with and shake the man’s hand!

What a special treat to meet Reggie and for him to talk us through the process from start to finish, he took time to explain the process, showing us the original wood, watched him carve a piece in the workshop and finish with glaze, followed by a tour of his gallery/shop. A really lovely treat for anyone who appreciates woodwork, art or simply wants to experience a local craftsman at work.

We had the pleasure of meeting Reggie, who showed us his workshop (including giving a demonstration) and exhibition pieces. We bought one of his fascinating mahogany root sculptures as a unique souvenir of our time in Barbados.

Spectacular- craft doesn’t do this justice- the man is a genius and an artist and an absolute wizard with wood! He took the time to show my wife and I around his workshop. Incredible. Very excited to be taking one of his pieces home with us

The shop in the terminal building in Barbados has a great display of the work that they do with the mahogany. The artist was at hand to explain the process of how these beautiful pieces are created. A unique keepsake to remind you of your wonderful time in Barbados.

I went on a trip with three friends to Barbados. Medford, the founder and owner of the company was there! He gave us a tour of his facility and explained to us his personal history coming into his current work. He showed us his unique process, the only person to use this process in the world. Medford was very nice and we spent a lot of time speaking with him about Barbados and the U.S.

If you are traveling to Barbados, this is one stop you MUST make!

On the spur of the moment we dropped by Medford Craft today and boy did we have a treat! Mr Medford was actually on site working on his craft and was able to give us the history of his business and the ingenuity that he and his staff have come up with to craft such unique and gorgeous mahogany art. Medford's spirit was so kind and you can tell he is passionate about his work. The wood is locally and ethically sourced as the Barbadian mahogany tree is a protected plant and can't be harvested. His mahogany sculptures were STUNNING and VERY reasonably priced given the scarcity and uniqueness of the mahogany. We bought some of the smaller pieces but would love to be back to take home some of the larger art to Washington DC. If you want a truly authentic, locally sourced and crafted souvenir, this is a must stop on your Barbados trip!!

My wife Margaret and I met Reggie and his lovely wife in a bar in Barbados in early 2019. After a nice evening we visited him in his home and workshop a couple days later.
Reggie showed us his work source, a huge disparate tangle of Mahogany tree roots that most folk would put in a wood burner.
But Reggie has the ability to see form among the tangle, he doesn’t hurry it, he waits until it presents itself to him. He then goes to work to reveal the most elegant and often sensual piece of sculpture that lies within the tangle.
The end result is both unique and beautiful and it begs you to touch it and look at it from many angles which reveal images that perhaps only you will see, sometimes animal, sometimes human, always graceful and organic . There’s no right answer, and often no single answer as to what he’s depicted, it’s up to you the viewer. Reggie certainly won’t sway you.
In my opinion this is what makes Reggies art pieces both fascinating and individual.
We had a great day, and whilst I went with neither intention or pressure from Reggie to purchase, we came away with a modest (just about cabin luggage sized) but nonetheless beautiful piece that keeps on giving every time we look at it.
Thank You Reggie, a great day, great keepsake !
Eugene
