Having been coming to Barbados since 2007 and attending many gold cup days, I must say yesterday was totally spoilt but the absolute chaos and disgraceful behaviour at the betting booths. Myself and many others stood in a line, a queue, only to be abused and shoved by people who obviously don't believe in a queing system. They would come from both sides stand and force their way to the front, the others would be handing money over to them and getting their bets also put on. The ladies behind the counter even allowed this and did not tell them to queue like everyone else. Wen I eventually did get to the front and questioned why this was allowed the response was it's what happens. Surely this is unacceptable, there was no order or system of control in place at all, I cannot express enough how upset and disappointed I was at what should have been a wonderful day out.

A fantastic evening out, we paid BBD$15 each for entry to the races, and had a great night. The atmosphere was brilliant with a mix of locals and tourists. We as a family of 5 with teenage kids felt completely safe at all times and welcome with locals only too happy to point us towards the toilets, bar and betting offices!
Drinks are cheap and so are snacks. We managed to win and loose with almost zero experience on horse racing!
I would absolutely recommend an evening at the races and soak up the laid back friendly Bajan hospitality 👍🇧🇧

best racetrack in the Caribbean, probably as it could be the only one i know of, mind you check out race days as not a lot of events, but if you are in luck there will be one when you are here, after all there are no casinos in Barbados, plenty of slots, but no where near as much fun as picking a winner, suggest asking your hotel regarding race days when you arrive, after all the beach will be there everyday

I can't believe no one has ever written a review on the Garrison race track, as I would recommend it to anybody visiting Barbados.

One day when walking from hastings into bridgetown we walked by the race track, and since my partner and I had never been to the horse races together we decided to find out when the next race was taking place.
We were lucky to find out that it was exactly on the same week-end and had planned to go there for just a couple of races but we enjoyed it so much, that it ended up being all of the races.

Horse racing was introduced in Barbados after 1845 when Barbados was part of the British empire.
If you don't know that much about the horses you will be treated to an electric atmosphere and let the enthusiasm of the day infect you.

We brought a blanket and sat on the lawn right by a tree behind of one of the outside betting-stalls that are right by the parking lot accessible from HWY7. There are also some park benches in the same area.

If you prefer a more sophisticated experience, there are stands (free admission for kids under 12) / Grand Stands / Lounges and entry fee to those ranges from BDS$10.00 to BDS$100.00 but we opted for the free version and were surrounded by locals making it an even greater experience.

There were vendors around us, so a cheap lunch and drinks were also within our reach.

I ended up wining on three different races so for me it was an exciting fun day!

many races take place throughout the year, so it's best to check the website and if you are lucky, you can enjoy a fun day at the races.

Entire family went on a whim and loved the excitement from the locals. An island jockey was in the races, and created loud and happy support from islanders and visitors both. Sharing the energy made the day more meaningful. The nearby George Washington house had a group of monkeys skipping through the gardens and the walk back to hotel was great fun. Go and watch these beautiful horses at a lovely landmark setting. The Garrison area is very interesting, and the track an historical place. JH

Went to the horse racing on Saturday, it was the Barbados Gold Cup meeting. We had a great day out, it was packed out with locals and tourists all in their finest outfits!
The atmosphere was brilliant and they also had a parade just prior to the " big race"
A "must do" if in Barbados.

They race on Saturdays. This place was a blast. What other horsetrack has tailgating, cannons, and cheap drinks?

If you are staying at The Hilton or Radisson on a Saturday afternoon and want to do something different just a 10 minute stroll will see you joining in with the locals and seeing them at play. You can stand by the track with the locals having a bar-b-q and it costs nothing or you can pay a few dollars and go into the stands. We are not horse racing fans at all but it was a really great experience.

This racetrack is right up the hill across from the Radisson. We spent many hours there enjoying the races, the food, and the people. You are not required to go to the grandstand so you can just stay on the grounds and see all the action for free. And betting is only a minimum of $2BDS so it was a fun, inexpensive day out. If you love the horses, go over to the beach at the Radisson at sunrise (around 6am). Each morning they bring the horses over from the track right into the water! They exercise and swim, and you can talk to the trainers and the horses. It is a sight to behold!
